The scene opens with Jimmy and Danny Vice seated inside of a car. However, the circumstance is not your typical Vice family excursion. Today, Danny is driving due to Jimmy still being on painkillers for his injuries at the hand of Skyler Striker. They are also no longer driving Jimmy’s Hummer, which the Vices were forced to sell to cover Jimmy’s multiple medical expenses. On this trip, the Vice boys are sitting in an old 1976 AMC Pacer coupe, complete with the fishbowl bulbous roof and rounded windshield and windows. The color is an awful avocado, which has faded in the past 30 years making it closer and closer to the color of nasal phlegm. The once leather seats are entirely tattered and torn, with the yellow stuffing giving off an odor reminiscent of a Grateful Dead concert from the same time period. Danny struggles with the ignition, slamming his free arm against the aged steering wheel.
Danny: If there is one thing that sonofabitch father of ours could have done was leave us with a car that could actually…
The car begins to start just as Danny finishes his sentence.
…start.
The wide-eyed smile of brother Jimmy hints to the viewing audience that he is still feeling the repercussions of his painkillers. His goofy ear-to-ear grin is almost Joker-esque.
Jimmy: SO? DANNY! WHERE ARE WE GOING TODAY DANNY?
Jimmy, you're seated just a few mere inches from The Vagrant, is it entirely necessary that you A) scream directly into his ear, and B) spray your saliva all over his shoulder and face?
Jimmy settles down instantly. He stares long at his brother hoping for an answer with puppy-dog eyes.
Today The Vagrant continues his training for his ladder match with Skyler Striker at School of Pain. And of course, with the hardcore title contendership on the line, he figured there is only one person in this town that is better suited to help train him. And since Skyler was the one to put you into your current sta…well, he injured you, The Vagrant is going to bring you along so you can learn a little bit about being hardcore as well.
The scene fades as the old Pacer puts down the road. The scene then fades back in with text across the screen saying ”Twenty Minutes Later”. The Pacer is turning right down Paper St. before parking along the street in front of an old dive bar named, “Big Lou’s”.
Where are we going Danny? Who’s at this place? Who is training us?
Jimmy, settle down. It’s time to train. Let The Vagrant do all the talking and keep your opinions to yourself.
The Vice brothers exit the car and enter into the bar. This is exactly the kind of place where The Vagrant would hang out. The wall is covered with sharpie signings of past patrons. Pictures of half-celebrities and socialites from thirty and forty years ago are framed and signed behind the bar. The bartender, a sixtysomething year old man, where's a tattered leather jacket. He's got a grey handlebar mustache that would put Wyatt Earp to shame. There are two billiards tables to the left, where several regulars shoot pools. Everyone in here looks and dresses like a traditional man's man. The floor has a couple shards of broken bottles, presumably from a drunken bar fight from the night before. Danny walks to the bar, but is interrupted before he can even open his mouth by the bartender...
Bartender: He's downstairs in the basement, and he's been waiting for you.
The Vice brothers follow the bartender's point toward the door just next to the bar. They notice several of the patrons have black eyes and busted lips.
Well this definitely looks like the right place if you're looking to train for something hardcore like a ladder match.
Danny just shakes his head and continues to the stairs. The stairwell has just a single bulb, which poorly lights the twenty stairs down to the basement. The smell of dried blood and sweat was intoxicating. Danny's hair stood on edge has he stepped off the final step, Jimmy just a split second behind. The camera catches the look of sheer awe on the faces of both Vice brothers as they look up and see their trainer. The camera quickly pans, and there, standing in the center of that dark and damp basement, bloodied and bruised, was the legendary Tyler Durden.
Tyler Durden: You boys ever been in a fight before?
Still expressionless, the Vice brothers nod slowly.
Good, because we only have a few days to prepare for School of Pain, and you've got a lot to learn. Now, the first rule of...
DON'T TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB!
Jimmy simply couldn't help himself as he blurted out the answer from the famous 1999 motion picture. His eyes wide, waiting for acknowledgement from his new trainer. Tyler stands there, staring, before finally responding.
No, I was going to say the first rule is to always pay attention to your surroundings. People watch one movie and think they know everything. That was a movie man, this is real. Come on man get your head out of your ass. Now, let's get to work.
The camera pans out as only mumblings of the three men can be heard. Tyler is showing both brothers several quick striking techniques which they emulate afterwards. Several weapons can be seen around the floor until the camera fades out...
