Since the direction my character has turned, I feel like my writing choices have rubbed some people wrong OOC and have gotten me some criticism. I feel like I should explain myself, so as not to have anyone question who I am distinct of the character I write:
I do not agree with or condone the views Howard Black has expressed about intergender wrestling. While he thinks he's in the right and challenging a cultural norm, he is coming at this cultural norm from an incredibly one-dimensional angle and missing the bigger picture. He's being extreme, and he's definitely being an asshole whether or not he thinks he is. Howard Black is a guy who, I hope my RPs are starting to suggest, has a LOT of problems. He has a HUGE victim complex, and he'll always double down rather than fess up when he thinks he's being attacked. This is a fault solely his. He's painted himself into a corner due to his neurosis, and he'll keep doing it the more he gets his asskicked because in his fucked-up mind, it's justifying him.
I believe women in wrestling is a positive and progressive thing. I think wrestlers like Trish Stratus, Chyna, and Awesome Kong have challenged the purveying stereotypes of women in wrestling in a way that is liberating and necessary for the development of the genre. The WWE was, at one point and sort of still, one of the most sexist and chauvinistic companies in its portrayal of women wrestlers. Despite outliers like the intergender success of women wrestlers like Chyna, there is a clear glass ceiling which actively limits female talent from gaining the recognition or respect as the male talent at the top of the card. This is WRONG. WWE has come a long way since the days of "HLA" and "bra and panties matches" which reduced women to sexual objects, but it still has a long way to go. NXT has given us an incredible amount of talented female wrestlers, but I hope that much of the mainstream wrestling fandom can eventually let go of its own subconscious sexism which is evident in the "You Suck *Wrestler*" chants many Divas still receive at shows.
If the direction in which I have brought my character is offensive or repugnant enough to anyone OOC that it casts a negative light on myself as a writer and member of this community, I will drop it in an instant. It's been an opportunity I've latched onto to explore the more troubling and deeper-seated aspects of my character's psychology, and it's unnecessary to continue. I cannot apologize deeply enough to anyone whose feelings I may have unintentionally injured, and I hope that we can look past this. I want nothing but to eventually be a respected member of this community; a story gimmick isn't worth it.
