“Regard your good name as the richest jewel you can possibly be possessed of -- for credit is like fire; when once you have kindled it you may easily preserve it, but if you once extinguish it, you will find it an arduous task to rekindle it again. The way to a good reputation is to endeavor to be what you desire to appear.”

When he started in this business his goal wasn't just to win championships. He wanted to face the best in the business and give it everything he had. He intended to fight every battle as if it were his last and if it was good enough so be it. If it wasn't, He would come out the next time and try again. It wasn't the fame and glory that he was after. No, It was so much more that drove him every day of his life. Something that every person longs for. Respect, Plain and simple. He wanted the respect of those he fought against. He wanted them to know that when they stepped into the ring against him that they would be in for one hell of a battle.
Perhaps that was why he hated S-Pac so much. They had no respect for anyone who wasn't a part of their 'click'. They think they are so much better than anyone else. They may have won the small battle at the last Slam but he knew that the war was far from over. They would face each other again and the next time things would be different. One way or another, S-Pac was going down. He didn't care if it was the last thing he did. He was going to beat them once and for all.
Now he had another challenge before him. One that he was actually looking forward to. He had the opportunity to take on one of the legends of the WCF. A man who has done it all and held every title in the WCF. Jayson Price, Someone that Night Rider had nothing but respect for. Because he earned it! He went out there and fought his ass off to achieve what he was able to achieve. Nothing was handed to him on a silver platter. Sure, The guy liked to drink but who the hell didn't. Night Rider knew that when they stepped into the ring he would have to push himself beyond the limits. He would have to step it up another notch and give it everything he had and then some.
That's what he wanted people to think of him. He didn't want them fearing him because of his size and strength. He wanted them to respect him for his abilities. He knew he wasn't the best in the business. He would never claim to be. That was why he had to fight harder and give it that much more in order to survive in the jungle that is the WCF. He has had is own share of success, Being a two time Tag Team Champion and a former Peoples Champion. It had taken a lot just for him to get this far. Still, He knew that he was far from finished. He heard the talk in the locker room. He knew that no one was even really giving him a chance in this match. As far as they were concerned he might as well go out there to the ring and lay down so Price could pin him as soon as he came into the ring. Why even bother? Surely there was no way he could beat the best in the business. Or could he?

He stood there on East Colfax looking over at the State Capitol building. Even with the construction going on to repair it the building still showed it's many years. He could see the bums already working their way into it's crevices and hiding in the darkness. Waiting for some unwilling victim to stroll through so they could rob them of their goods and steal away into the dark shadows. He made his way further down East Colfax as the bright sun shone down upon him. He knew it would be a tough match. He knew that Price was going to give him the fight of his life. Isn't that what this was all about? Wasn't this why he was here? If he intended to be a World Champion some day he had to beat the best. He had to show them that he had what it takes to get the job done. Words were nothing but good intentions gone wrong. Actions sang out like a whore at a Biker Rally.
He looked to his left and saw it there, Saturdays. It sure had changed over the years. He thought about going in just to see if the inside was the same. He had broken so many hearts when he used to come here. He liked the music and the atmosphere but never was interested in the hired help. He would have a few drinks and walk back to the hotel across the street. Just because something has been around for a while doesn't mean it was as good as it once was. Was Price still the man that he once was? Has time taken it's wrath out on him?
He walked past like a sinner hiding from confession. He wasn't really in a hurry. His meeting wasn't for another hour. He hoped Denise was okay. He had been worried about her since he spoke with her on the phone earlier. He would get in touch with her as soon as his meeting was taken care of. Finally he reached his destination. He walked into the Z-Bar and made his way towards the back where the dance floor was located in front of the stage. He sat down at the table and waited.
Before long a waitress walked over towards his table. She was a younger woman who looked barely old enough to even drink. She was loudly chewing a piece of gum smacking her lips like a pimp slaps his hoes. Her brown hair was in pigtails adding to her youthful look.
Waitress
How ya doing sir? My name is Molly and I will be your waitress for tonight. What can I get for you? Sticking around to listen to the band later? It should be pretty good.
Night Rider
Bring me a snake bite and a Jack and Coke. I don't think I'll be here that long but you never know.
Waitress
I'll bring that right to you. If you change your mind it's an Alabama cover band. They do all the greats like 'Roll on 18 Wheeler' Their pretty cool. Be right back
She turned away and headed up to the bar. About that time he saw the person he was waiting for walk in the door. Night Rider motioned for him to come over as soon as they made eye contact. He watched him as he walked over. The slumped shoulders told him immediately that something was wrong.
Diablo
Listen bro, I'm glad you could meet me on such short notice. I know you have your hands full this week but I didn't know who else I could turn to.
Night Rider
Man, You know I am here for you. We're blood dude, Enough said. Now what's going on?
Diablo
I don't like the news I have been hearing on the streets. Word is that something is supposed to be going down at Slam. There's talk going around that someone is coming after you. Someone who wasn't happy with the disappearance of the Buttkowski Brothers. He's supposed to be some real big shot with a whole network of trouble. I wasn't given a name. They said I was safer not knowing. He's supposed to be flying in sometime tonight.
Night Rider
Whoever it is doesn't know who he's messing with if he gets in my business. I don't give a shit how much of a big shot he is.
Diablo
I'm heading for the airport and I'll see what I can snoop out. Any news and I'll give you a call. Just watch your ass.
Night Rider
Thank's Bro, I'll keep that in mind. Keep me informed.
Diablo stood up and walked out the back door. Night Rider couldn't help but smile, His little brother looking out for him. It was supposed to be the other way around. The waitress came over and looked around before shaking her head and walking away. He waited until she was all the way back at the bar before calling her back. He was going to need a good buzz to get through the night. He decided to call Denise and have her meet him there at the Zanzibar. She sounded tired when she spoke. He began to regret calling her. But he knew that if something was going to go down she should know about it.
He pulled his solid gold hitter box out of his pocket and opened it up. He packed the hitter good and tight just the way he liked it then lit it up. The smoke they had out here was so much better than even the hydro he got back home. He would have to pick up some extra before they headed out. He closed his eyes and leaned his head back, Enjoying the rush as the weed began to take effect. He couldn't even begin to figure out who it was who was coming after him. He had to have some balls to come to the event and try something.
He began to think about his match again. It was going to be a learning experience either way. Win or Lose he would be able to find out if he was good enough to hang with the best. He wasn't just going to walk out there and lay down for anyone. If someone was going to beat him they would have to be ready for a fight. He was going to give Jayson Price the best he had and if it was good enough he would win. If not, At least he would know that he gave it everything he had.
He didn't even notice when Denise walked up behind him. She bent over and kissed him on the lips catching him by surprise. He smiled and stood up. He had been waiting all day to hold her in his arms. He held her so tight he was afraid he had hurt her. Her smile told him that if he had she didn't feel it. He missed her so much when they were apart.
Night Rider
Sorry, I was thinking about my match against Price. I missed the privilege of watching you walk over. It's so good to see you again.
He pulled her chair out so she could sit down and slid her in closer to the table. He thought he would get lost in her wonderful perfume. It was better than any drug he had ever tried. The waitress walked over just as he was about to sit down himself.
Waitress
Can I get you folks anything? The band will be starting soon. You'll like them.
Denise D'Evil
I'll have a snake bite and a gin and tonic.
Night Rider
I'll have another shot and the usual. Just keep them coming as long as we are here.
Waitress
Your not driving are you? They are real strict around here on that. Especially since the pot revolution. Just saying so you be careful.
Night Rider
No, KITT will be doing the driving. Besides, The night is young yet. We'll be dancing in the shadows long after this place closes. Don't worry, There's good money in it for you as long as you keep your mouth shut and remember you didn't see us in here if anyone asks.
Waitress
I don't see a thing. I'l be right back with your drinks.
He waited until she was out of earshot before he began to speak.
Night Rider
Now, Are you ready for this. I just spoke with Diablo and he said some big shot was coming after me for taking out the brothers. He said something was supposed to go down at Slam this week.
Denise D'Evil
Does the guy have a death wish or something? He must be mad coming into our territory looking for trouble. Besides, If he tried doing anything to you I would have his head in a heartbeat. No one messes with the one I love. Do you know who it is?
Night Rider
No, Diablo wasn't given any name. He's at the airport now checking things out.Said he would call as soon as he heard anything. I figured we could chill out here a while and see if he comes up with anything. Then we strike before he has an opportunity to.
Denise D'Evil
Great, We may get to have some more fun then. When we get him let's torture him for a while and see what information we can get out of him. I know many ways to hurt a man that would turn your stomach.
Night Rider
Enough of that for now. You have a pretty big match coming up yourself. Television Tile contendership. That belt always did look good on you. Your my Champion that's for sure.
Denise D'Evil
Awww........... always so sweet. You know I feel the same about you. Holding our Tag Team Championship with you is like a dream come true. Your match against Jayson Price is going to be a good one. I think you have what it takes to beat him though. Just believe in yourself and know that you can do it. Sure, He has done everything in the WCF, Held every title there is. But he's not invincible. If anything happens I'll be there for you.
Night Rider
I know you will be. Just like I would for you. I'm not really as worried about my match as I am about someone trying something. Whoever the hell he is. Price is a known. I know what to expect from him, A damn good fight. The other guy who knows. He could even send a couple thugs just to relay a message and fuck with our heads. A lot of innocent people could get hurt.
Denise D'Evil
We'll have to figure out a way to stop them.
Night Rider
Diablo's working on that now. I should be hearing back from him before long.
They sat and chatted throughout the night. Almost oblivious to the music playing around them. The crowd thickened and then thinned again. Before they knew it the place was nearly empty. The waitress walked over and placed a bill on the table. Night Rider handed her a couple C-Notes as he and Denise stood to walk out of the bar. Suddenly, Hank Brown came running into the bar. His shirt was ripped as if he had been in a fight.
Hank Brown
Boy, Am I glad that you are here. Two guys just jumped me back there and stole my keys to get in the arena. I thought they were going to kill me.
Night Rider
What in the hell is going on around here? What would someone want with your keys? What were you doing in this area anyway?
Hank Brown
I was coming to see if I could talk you into doing a promo.
Night Rider
Okay, Let's do one then.
Hank Brown
No, That's okay. I just don't feel like it anymore.
what? were you expecting something else?
The End was way back up there.
