Early last month, we here at wcf.com were shocked, as many were to hear the news that Sarah Twilight would be stepping away from the company for a while ... possibly indefinitely. After having an incredible year in 2013 that included becoming the first woman in WCF history to capture the WCF World Championship, and a memorable run as the company's owner, the world was ready to hate Sarah once more as she made her return to the ring as an active competitor and was slated to compete against Jonny Fly in an upcoming match. Yet just one month after the announcement of her in ring return, she is now a member of the inactive roster. But why?
Some speculation has been that Twilight is taking time off for a movie deal that she'd been offered just days prior to her announcement. Though we were unable to confirm from any sources that Twilight is slated to appear in any upcoming film or television productions. In fact, Twilight herself would agree that the idea of placing her professional wrestling career on hold for a one time Hollywood project is just not something she would do.
Another ... possibly more likely scenario being circulated is that with the announcement of the Timebomb main event -- and Sarah's exclusion from it that she, and WCF owner Seth Lerch are embroiled in a behind the scenes legal battle. It was after all provisioned under the sale of WCF from Twilight to Lerch that any action carried out by Lerch that could be viewed as retaliation or purposeful withholding of opportunity would result in legal avenues being pursued.
Can Sarah's exclusion from the Timebomb main event be viewed as retaliation or purposeful withholding of opportunity? Sure. Is it more probable she was excluded for having not been active on roster for several months before the main event announcement? Most likely.
This still begs the question as to why Sarah is suddenly inactive? Sources have speculated that in a mutual agreement reached by both Seth Lerch and Sarah Twilight, she would take extended leave with base pay until the entirety of the situation was resolved. Attorneys on both sides agree that if this WERE the situation, having Twilight actively competing would be a disaster for Lerch who would come under scrutiny for every decision made regarding Twilight.
"It's simply not something we can afford to have happen. It's one of those situations where you just can't effectively manage an employee when they are aiming legal leverage against you." said a source close to the Lerch camp.
The on screen way in which Twilight's unexpected departure was handled is simply to close up any gaps and keep questions off of curious lips. Fact is, we don't know the particulars of why Sarah has stepped away from active competition so suddenly. Whether because of a brewing legal battle, a movie project or simply to take some time away ... the news has generated a buzz among the internet and people always want to have the answers. Will we eventually see Sarah back in action here in WCF? That isn't something that we can answer with any form of certainty. But the smart bet says ... yes.
