A week off.
Each member of the family had been given a week off by their respective companies, so they decided to spend the first day of it the best way possible.
A backyard barbeque.
As the burgers and steaks were being grilled, the people of the party sat in lawn chairs on the patio, kicking back and soaking in the mid-afternoon sunset.
First off, there was Mike Ragnal, self-proclaimed Master of Elemental Disaster. Wearing his trademark red hat, he’s sipping down a cold can of Lipton Brisk, taking time off before he goes back to Wrestling Championship Federation.
In the chair next to him, holding his hand, was girlfriend Sasha Pehl, a longtime friend of the Ragnals. Originally from Australia, Sasha came to the states for some real competition. In the end, she also found romance in Mike Ragnal, and is currently his manager in WCF.
Next to her is Joe Ragnal, Mike’s blonde haired twin and the Innovator of Fully Unrehearsed Nuttiness, or simply FUN. Currently, Joe is relaxing for a week from the Global Wrestling Coalition, before returning for his next match, and also preparing for his own specialty, the FUN House match, at the end of the week.
In his arms, sitting on his lap with her arms wrapped around his neck, is Tanya Flaire, another longtime friend of the family, but also Joe’s first protégé in the sport. She took time off from wrestling to form her own rock band, Empty Spiral. The band broke up, and Tanya toured as a solo artist, still selling records. She’s currently dating Joe, and taking a break from her tour before her next stop in Philadelphia.
And finally, to round out the party, is the oldest sibling, the Ocean’s Beauty, Linda Ragnal. A cup of Pepsi in hand, she stares on, smiling at the happy couples, thinking of her own love.
“Now how’s this for a reunion?” Mike asked as he stared into Sasha’s eyes. “It’s been too long since the five of us got together like this.”
“Well, no shit, dingus.” Joe said, as he shook his head. “A lot of us have been busy, yanno. The three of us doing wrestling, Tanya here out making great music…” After saying that last part, Tanya smiles, and the two lean in for a kiss. “I mean, c’mon. Even Linda’s been dealing with wrestling, even when she said she was gonna retire.”
“Hey now!” Linda shouted, even though she knew he was right. She originally meant to leave wrestling to train new up and comers, but eventually she couldn’t keep herself from competing. She joined Divas Unleashed, because she knew she wouldn’t get far anywhere else, especially in the sausage factories her brothers worked in.
Tanya giggled at Joe’s comment towards his siter.. “Excuse me, you’re one to talk! Who decided to take a break to run his own deli?”
“She’s got you there, Joseph.” Sasha said, raising a can of Mountain Dew to Tanya in appreciation, then drinking it down.
Linda, who was quiet thinking about her own boyfriend, who couldn’t be here for his own reasons, just shook her head. “Well, at least the both of you are still working on stuff. Sasha, not much ring action, but you’re still in the business…and Tanya, well, at least she’s KEPT her word about not returning to the ring.”
“Give her time. It’ll happen.” Joe remarked, and the group bursted out laughing. As the laughter passed, Mike took another sip of his iced tea, and looked up at the sky in thought.
“So, just curious, what’s everyone up to once they get back to business?” He asked.
“Well, Moira and I have a match Darla Daniels and Suzie Woods.” She answered, looking at the ground for a thinking moment. “I guess they’re new girls looking to form a tag team.”
“You mean you don’t know?” Joe questioned, as Tanya stood up and headed for the cooler for a drink.
“Well, it’s hard sometimes to keep track. I mean, sometimes when you think you know who’s around, someone just up and leaves. Take that Inferna girl that was Amber’s sex slave, or lover, or something.” She said, using the hand with the can to point to the others. “She looked like she had a future, but for some reason she up and left.”
“She’s right, luv.” Sasha said, looking at her beau. “Remember that Jason Briggs fellow you feuded with after debuting in WCF?”
“Pie Fucker?”
“Exactly, him. After you beat him, he never came back.”
“I guess that’s just how some things go,” Joe said, Tanya setting up her own chair next to him, and sitting down with a can of Cherry Coke. “I mean, hey, I’m the only guy left from my debut match, which is pretty sad when you consider that match was a pretty damn good one. Now, now I’m heading back to GWC, taking one some dudes called Icon Corp, and I’m teaming up with the owner, Danny Vice.”
“Danny Vice?!” Mike and Sasha yelled in exclamation.
“You heard of him?”
“Heard of him? I work with the guy!” Mike shouted, still in surprise. “Not only that, he’s one of four guys I’m facing next show, PLUS the Hardcore champion!”
“Weird…” Joe thought out loud.
“I wonder why he never brought it up.” Linda said, trying to get more into these conversations.
“Prolly just trying to keep businesses apart.” Tanya pointed out. “I mean, we don’t bring up another company anywhere…do we?”
And then, in a rare moment, the five looked up to the sky, feeling they may have just broken some kind of obscure fourth wall. The weirdness passing, Mike shook his head rapidly as everyone looked back down to earth. “Man,” he said, “I felt like Will Ferrell in Stranger than Fiction.”
“Yeah, weird.” Linda said, “I had that same vibe.” She shrugged the feeling off, then took a sip of her own drink.
“So Linda, where’s this boyfriend of yours at?” Sasha asked.
“You know what? He…never really told me. He just said that he had some stuff to do this weekend.”
“Well that stinks.” Mike said. “I woulda wanted to meet the dude.”
“Yeah, I know…the next chance I get to talk to him, I’ll see what was up. Maybe I’ll finally figure out what he does for a living.”
“You do that, sis.” Mike said, raising his can to his sister, smiling. After a few minutes, Mike stood up, and raised his can again. “To friends, family…and wrestling.”
With that, everyone else raised their can high, and then drank from it. Each of them continued to chat, with one thing in mind…
