Scene One|Denver, Colorado
It's a Saturday night. Just picture all the things that usually go on in nightclubs and on the streets on your usual Saturday night. Then transplant it all to Denver; you'll see exactly what the streets are like at this time. There's really no difference in between Denver and any other place right now. Except for the fact that Jason Weslow is in Denver, and not anywhere else. Yes, Jason Weslow is a little bit of a party animal- hard to believe, considering the fact that he is renowned for being probably the most calm and collected identity in the wrestling scene today. Partying isn't supposed to be in his blood, especially not that he has his wife Simone and daughter Shenea to think about. But it is. But in the same breath, his version of partying isn't the conformist view of hitting the nightclub and getting it on with buxom blondes while getting "blind drunk". Oh no, his version of partying is restricted simply to only about two or three beers, at a downtown tavern, while talking to the locals- or whoever else might wish to engage in conversation with him really.
Usually the conversations are merely an exchange of anecdotes and old stories, with a sprinkling of lessons about life thrown in. For somebody that never went to college to get a degree, Jason is a surprisingly educated personality; somebody who's knowledge is simply based off the experiences that he has had. The lessons that he has learned, both internally and externally. You could say Jason is the true definition of a "hard knocks" story, but he doesnt see it that way. At all. In fact, he just sees his story, as being the same as anybody else. A human, learning more about the world surrounding them, by experiencing it first hand. After all, there is no better teacher, than life itself. It is at one of these taverns, that Jason Weslow is currently in the midst of his usually Saturday night antics. Wearing a black shirt, jeans that are being held up with a black leather belt **which has a gold buckle** and black boots that would be more befitting on a cowboy, he is sat on a typical bar stool, in front of an oak bench which is where the barkeeper is currently situated.
~Barkeeper~
"You want another Miller's, Jason?"
Jason slightly looks at the barkeeper, nodding to indicate that he wishes to receive another Miller's beer. The barkeeper promptly obliges, before sliding the full glass back to him.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"Thanks barkeep."
~Barkeeper~
"No problems, and just call me Jamie."
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"OK. Thanks, Jamie."
Jamie, who is attired in what one would expect your typical barkeeper to be attired in, save for the blue apron slightly yet politely nods at Jason, before making his way over to another customer; allowing Jason to drink his beer in relative peace and quiet. A slight smile from Jason ensues, as he realizes that out of the corner of his eye- W.C.F interviewer Hank Brown has managed to visit the bar. Now, it can only be assumed that Hank has come because Jason is here. He could very well be looking just to have a Saturday night out as well. After all, you hardly get any time to relax when you're an interviewer. Especially not for a company that's as big as the W.C.F. What, with talent constantly calling you; requiring you to come out to them, all so that they can trash talk their opponents.
~Hank Brown|W.C.F Interviewer~
"Jason?"
Turning around at the sound of his name, Weslow nods toward Hank- signifying that he did hear Hank holler out to him; directing him to come and take the empty chair that's next to where he is currently situated. Hank shortly obliges, wearing a black W.C.F issued shirt, black pants and black leather loafers. If he wasnt wearing W.C.F on his shirt, you'd probably get him easily confused with a secret service member, or something of that type.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"You're here to get some words from me, correct? Or am i mistaken and you just want to chill out for the night?"
Hank slightly laughs. While he would normally be willing to accept the half-offer of a beer, he also has to remain professional. Do his job, at the risk of the higher-up's "admonishing" him for turning a simple request into a personal issue.
~Hank Brown|W.C.F Interviewer~
"Strictly professional tonight. Ive been brought here upon request from management, to see if you'd be willing to conduct an interview for this week's event?"
Jason slightly smiles, taking another sip of his beer.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"I can oblige with that. I mean, I'm not one to turn down the opportunity to exchange in discourse about any subject really. Especially when it comes to wrestling; teaching people how it actually can all tie into the world outside of the ring. And yes, there is more to everything than just wrestling, we can't forget that...even if sometimes we do want to forget it all."
Softly laughing, Jason notices that Hank doesn't get his "dry" sense of humor. Not a lot of people do, which is why he never tried to make it big on the comedic scene. Taking the offered seat next to Jason, Hank pulls out his tape recorder **yes, people do still use those** and places it softly on the table.
~Hank Brown|W.C.F Interviewer~
"Hello there W.C.F fans. I'm your beloved interviewer Hank Brown. Here today with newcomer to W.C.F, Jason Weslow. Glad to have the time to sit down and chat."
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"Glad to be able to meet you."
~Hank Brown|W.C.F Interviewer~
"First of all, you've been here since Monday when the contract was officially signed, yet held off on formalizing the contract until Tuesday. Was that a move on your part, or was it more that you didn't know when it'd be formally approved?"
Looking up from his beer, Jason is slightly taken aback by the question.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"The contract itself had been done on Monday night. That much is true, but yes, it was mine and my agent's decision to hold off on the finalization of the contract until Tuesday. It wasn't anything to do with trying to hold W.C.F to ransom, but more simply- i needed more time to just ensure that everything was right. Many people dont understand the full ramifications of contracts; the little nuances that often get over-looked upon the first reading. When all had been figured out and the minor components of the deal completed, then it was formal and as such, is legally binding. That's all people need to know about it for now."
~Hank Brown|W.C.F Interviewer~
"All right. So, you're saying that you just wanted to ensure you were getting the best deal available to yourself?"
Jason smiles coyly, nodding his head. That's exactly what he was doing; it's simple business, really. Each party involved in the discussions, is out to get the best possible deal for themselves. Whether that be the company or the individual. They just want to ultimately be the ones who walk out with the best deal, when all is said and done.
~Hank Brown|W.C.F Interviewer~
"I've not gotten the chance to hear much about the reasons behind you signing with the W.C.F. I'm sure those who missed your earlier promo wouldn't know either, so would you mind informing us again, why you chose the W.C.F?"
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"Honestly Hank, it was simply because the W.C.F offered me the best learning experience. We're all in a constant state of development and learning. Whether that be internal learning, or external learning, we are forever educating ourselves. Most people in the United States know my name, but there's also a lot who don't. There's always those, that have never encountered me; been able to know just who I am. Whether that be inside of the ring, or outside of it. And the same goes in the other direction- there's a lot of people who I haven't had the chance to learn about; encounter. There's a clique mentality about wrestling, one that both helps and hinders our business at the same time. A double edged sword, if i was to simplify the explanation. Now, I know that might be harsh and a splash of cold water over the faces for more than a few of those listening, but it's there. You've just got to look at the W.C.F for an example. People will tend to float around, but will only stick to those that they know for the majority. Sure, they might be accepting of some fresh blood being infused, but that acceptance merely hides the fact that they see it as a threat. A danger to the dominance they had gathered. They still won't pass up on the chance to attempt making the new blood conform in the manner that they seek. Make their views distorted from the obscured view they themselves have."
Hank nods. He knows all about the "clique" or "mob" mentality that is rife in W.C.F and the consequences it has had on not just the roster, but also the management as well. Sarah Twilight rules the place, with nothing short of an iron fist. Just like the many dictators of bygone years did. From Stalin, to Hitler, to Castro. They all created a sense of fear in the communities they controlled.
~Hank Brown|W.C.F Interviewer~
"So, you're calling yourself a non-conformist? That you won't buy into any of the cliques thought processes?"
Jason shakes his head. He expected Hank to look right over the point of his remark, although he had feigned understanding it a mere moment ago.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"Not in the sense that i consider myself to be against the machine. Sure, the tyrannical reign of Sarah Twilight breaches all moral and ethical codes that one could imagine. It violates the will of the people, but it all comes down to the rebellion. Rebellion never works, unless you are armed with the same machinery that the tyrant is. Unless you are armed with the will, of more than just the people."
~Hank Brown|W.C.F Interviewer~
"As in, kill the machine from the inside?"
Jason can only slightly nod in response, with a slight laughter emitting from his mouth.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"In its simplest form, that is what I mean. But nothing is ever as simple as just killing it from the inside. You must engage the machine; make them see, that they are the ones that truly allowed the rebellion to occur. For rebellion is a result of broken spirits aligning. It is more than just the external, it is also internal. Am I calling Sarah Twilight out on her ways? No, for im not the one to initiate any such act. I'm nowhere near educated on her, to know just how to combat her iron fist. At least, not right now. But that, isnt a threat. Merely a statement."
~Hank Brown|W.C.F Interviewer~
"Just to clarify- you're not casting judgement upon Ms. Twilight for her acts against the W.C.F?"
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"At this moment in time, no."
While not binding, the reply snuffs out any thoughts that Weslow is siding with those opposed to Twilight's regime. Nor is he approving of the regime either. He's just not educated enough, in order to make an informed decision on the path that he shall take in this battle. Even if he has walked right into the midst of a war. If you wanted a comparison- he is Switzerland, neutral and a persona that traditionally doesn't get involved in wars, unless it is an absolute must.
~Hank Brown|W.C.F Interviewer~
"Slightly diverting the path of this interview- what are your thoughts on the potential of being thrust into any situation this week? It's all left until the night; nobody knows who they'll be facing, or any added stipulations that will be inserted into the match, until the night itself."
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"**laughing** I have the same thoughts on this, as I did earlier in the week. Nothing has changed at all in that regard. I'm a fan of walking literally into a match, blind; unknowing of what you might have to confront. I have been in that situation before, know that it is designed to keep people on their toes. To teach them to expect anything and everything- even the possibility of having to stare eye to eye with their best friend, or their mortal enemy. You literally have no chance to research or scout your opponents...or so the naysayers would have you believe. In fact, you've been subjected to the opportunity to scout everybody; learn their strengths and their weaknesses. Learn how to twist them and turn them to your advantage."
~Hank Brown|W.C.F Interviewer~
"I've never seen anybody think bout it that way. All ive heard is that they don't care about who they face. Not the fact that it allows more people to be scouted. Is there anybody you'd in particular like to be pitted against?"
Jason once again looks up from his beer, revealing a stoic expression. He's already touched on this topic once; doesn't really care for doing it again.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"Not one single iota. See, the moment you care about who you face, is the moment that you instantly hand your opponent the advantage. Am i saying that you shouldn't have any emotional connection to your opponent? Not at all, as having the emotional connection is what drives us. It's what not only pushes us externally, but also internally. What I am saying, is that it shouldn't honestly matter if you're facing somebody you have nothing for or against, your best friend or your worst enemy- you've still got to maintain a professional approach; do the job thats required. After all, as soon as the bell tolls- they become your rival. They become the one standing in your path; looking to hold you down, as you are looking to hold them down. Wrestling is centered around the advancement of one's self, whether or not that one wants to admit it."
Jason finishes the beer, placing the glass back down so that Jamie can come collect it once he has finished serving the other patrons.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"Think about it this way- if somebody was holding you back from achieving your full potential, you'd confront them about it, wouldn't you?"
~Hank Brown|W.C.F Interviewer~
"Yes, i would."
The slow, dragged out construction of Hank's reply, shows that he doubts his own answer- at least in Jason's mind. It's enough for him to look over Hank and at the patron seated on the chair to his right.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"Hey, you'd confront somebody in your workplace, if you believe they were holding you back, wouldn't you?"
~Generic Bar Patron~
"**looking up, surprised that the question is directed at him** Wouldn't anybody?"
Jason smiles. That's more the style of response that he wanted to receive. Not the half-and-half reply that he was given from Hank. A man who's supposed to tailor himself to the person that he is scheduled to interview at any given moment. Then again, it is hard to do that with somebody like Jason, admittedly.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"See, Hank. I know you said the same thing, but you're answer wasnt convincing. It was almost as if you doubted your own moral compass. That's something that you just can't allow to acquire the best of you. You have to be brutal; harsh to an extent in your actions. Even if it is to your best friend- if they're holding you back, then it becomes a must that you confront them. That you realize your own potential."
~Hank Brown|W.C.F Interviewer~
"Ah, OK. Now, this one's a question more from personal interest than anything else. I know you never went to college, but you're regarded as one of the most educated men in wrestling. How is that so?"
Jason simply looks at Hank, lifting up his palm and slowly dragging it in the direction of his face. For those who don't exactly want a long-winded description, he's in the process of facepalming. Accompanied with an audibly annoyed grunt.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"Life is the greatest teacher. Greater than any college education could give you. See, colleges are tailored to specialize in a certain aspect. A certain field and as such- all of there energy and focus is based on that field alone. Life isn't. Life is a combination of all those fields. It is on a much grander scale than just the lectures and watching of DVDs as well as assignments. While some place an emphasis on education and it's importance, I believe that one were learn more from simply experiencing something than being taught about it. For when you experience it the first time, you learn little tricks. Strategies in order to avoid having to confront that situation again- but they dont always work. Life is the master of the curveball; it can throw one at any given moment, even when you're blind and oblivious to it. I've fought my entire life, but this isn't the time to turn this into a "woe is me" story, nor do I want to go in that direction. See, I don't want pity. I don't need pity- fighting is truly all I know."
~Hank Brown|W.C.F Interviewer~
"I've heard that from several sources. That you are the embodiment of what a fighter and a warrior is, in it's purest form. Care to elaborate upon that?"
Jason slightly pulls his hand back down, looking at Hank. Slightly impressed that Hank at least did some research on him before coming to do this interview. He just wishes that he hadn't of asked the simply dumb question before hand.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"I fight for me. I fight for my family. See, others might hold those morals, but they're not just morals to me. They're not just simple ethics that define why I fight. They're supporting elements to everything. They set me upon the right path; ultimately, it's a path that I must go down alone. Wrestling is just the avenue that i have used in order to devote my focus and energy upon the cause. Upon the thrill of the fight."
Hank slightly nods, picking up the tape recorder, after a quick glance at his watch. The time has gotten away from him; he has to be at another interview in five hours, and would like to at least get some sleep before he goes to that assignment.
~Hank Brown|W.C.F Interviewer~
"Well, unfortunately i have to get going. But before I do, is there anything that you want to say to your potential opponents or even to the W.C.F itself?"
Jason smiles. As a man of many words, it goes without saying that he'll have one more statement to issue. But with the time restraints Hank has, Jason also knows that he has to limit the depth he dives into for another time.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"Come Tomorrow night, the fight shall begin. Like two gladiators, there shall be a brutal fight. Of course, not to the extent or gravity that the gladiatorial battles went to. But it will still be violent; it will still take all that you have within you, in order to deny me. Just as it will take all that I have, to deny you. The difference is- I've been down this road before. I know just what it takes, in order to break my own barriers. To be left nothing more than a broken and battered shell. Whoever I am pitted against, shall learn that I am their final frontier. Will they stand tall, or will they fall by the wayside? It's their choice, the path that they take."
Hank then presses the stop button on the tape recorder, before slowly walking off. Content with what he managed to get from Weslow. Just as Weslow is content with the words and wisdom he managed to impart- not only on Hank, but also upon those who will listen; watch this interview later on. The feed then cuts.
It's a Saturday night. Just picture all the things that usually go on in nightclubs and on the streets on your usual Saturday night.
