Main Backstory Points
Saints of Anarchy
Chase is a prominent member of a motorcycle club known as the Saints of Anarchy which in real life terms is similar to the Hell Angels. Chase's home chapter is based out of the fictional town which he lived Redwood California, the reason that it's fictional is due to the nature of Chase's story as well as the story of the club as it wouldn't be viable to be based in a real town/city. Redwood covers 22.8 square miles (59 km2) and is located in San Joaquin County, California, in the upper part of the metro triangle, which is bounded by the Bay Area, Stockton and Sacramento.
Redwood was also the original location where the Saints of Anarchy was founded and is the mother chapter of the Saints of Anarchy. The Saints have chapters (which are Localized groups of a single, large MC are called chapters or charters, and the first chapter established for an MC is referred to as the mother chapter.) in nearly every state in the US as well as several chapters in the UK and Europe. The Saints are a outlaw motorcycle gang which is a is a motorcycle subculture which has its roots in the immediately post-World War II era of American society. It is generally centered around the use of cruiser motorcycles, particularly Harley-Davidsons and choppers, and a set of ideals which celebrate freedom, nonconformity to mainstream culture and loyalty to the biker group. Many of the outlaw clubs operate criminal enterprises to support their way of life and have their own set of bylaws from which the values of the outlaw biker culture arise.

Chase's father Clive was on of the original founders of the Saints of Anarchy so therefore Chase is seen as the heir apparent but due to a internal power struggle with Caine Winchester who is President of The Saints of Anarchy MC as well as the President of the Redwood Chapter itself and is Chase's Uncle-in-law as he's married to Chase's aunt Kate). As a result of the struggle Chase was forced to leave the chapter and Redwood itself while Chase was forced to leave however his estranged fiancee Aeryn Carter who is often referred to as “Vixen” was forced to stay in Redwood due to the fact she knows too much about the club and as punishment for Chase 's attempt to take the Presidency from Caine. Chase is only allowed to return to Redwood on official club business and has to be accompanied by a member of the Nomads chapter which he is now apart of.
While Chase is no longer seen as a member of the Redwood Chapter he does still belong to a special group in the Saints referred to as The Reaper Crew, these are men that are the enforcers of the Saints and enforce the clubs law as well as an internal conflicts that damage the club. The Reaper Crew can also be called into to help a particular chapter if it runs into trouble that could jeopardise the chapter or even worst case scenario jeopardise the club itself. Basically if The Reaper Crew come to a chapter things are about to hit the fan. The Reapers can be members of anyone of the clubs chapters including the nomads chapter which has no geographic territory but will often travel between chapters as needed. (More information on the Nomads can be found here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomad_(motorcycle_club_membership) .
All members of The Saints can be identified by their Cut which is the vest adorned with a large club-specific patch or patches, predominantly located in the middle of the back. The patch(es) will contain a club logo, the name of the club, and the letters MC, and a possible state, province, or other chapter identification. This garment and the patches themselves are referred to as the colours or cut (a term taken from the early practice of cutting the collars and/or sleeves from a denim or leather jacket).
The club patches always remain property of the club itself, not the member, and only members are allowed to wear the club's patches. Hang-arounds and/or support clubs wear support patches with the club's colors. A member must closely guard their colors, for allowing one's colors to fall into the hands of an outsider is an act of disgrace and may result in loss of membership in a club, or a more fitting serve punishment.

Chase Michaels
Chase himself is quite a private man especially when it comes to his private life, which is also part of the reason why he's announced as residing in Bakersfield when in fact he resides in Redwood, this is also due to fact that Redwood doesn't like strangers to their town and that the Saints have the final say as to who is friend or who is a stranger.
Chase also has several different tattoo's on his body.
One on the rear part of his forearm reads “THOMAS” in memory of his older brother who died.
On the other forearm is a remembrance scene with a tribute to his father Clive Michaels as well as his fallen brethren in the Saints.
On his side/rib cage is a angel tattoo with a scroll with Aeryn, his estranged fiancee name on.
On his back/shoulder blade is a large reaper tattoo which is the Saint's emblem.
