Every now and then, we’re blessed enough to meet someone who fulfils us more than anyone else.
For Skyler Striker, this person is his own daughter, Jade Striker.
Jade means everything to Skyler. So this episode of Slam means everything to Striker, because it is the day he will find Jade and take her back into his arms.
And if this episode means so much, Skyler has to do what he has always done – win. Three former WCF Champions stand in Index Three’s way tonight. Epic and CD will attempt to take down Striker, and Cairo will once again have to defeat Ragnal.
However, the man who currently holds the belt is all that matters. Skyler Striker.
The scene begins, ironically, in WCF Japan. Hiroshi Yamahoto, obviously dubbed over for the English-speaking WCF viewers, is standing in the Japan ring with a mic in hand, the crowd pumped after just watching another spectacular match.
HY: Ladies and gentlemen, We have for you tonight a very special guest. As you know, next week we host WCF XIII for our WCF US friends, especially Creeping Death. So tonight, we have brought to you his opponent next week, and the best that WCF US has to offer – WCF World Champion Skyler Striker!
The crowd cheer like nothing before and Skyler enters the stage to ‘Fallen Angels’. He walks confidently to the ring, and slides in, to great applause from the Japanese fans, as Skyler’s belt represents being not only the WCF US Champion but also the WCF Japan Champion. Skyler is handed a microphone and a translator steps into the ring, but as soon as Skyler starts speaking, the crowd understand completely – Skyler is speaking fluent Japanese, results of his seven years of training there. The translator leaves as Skyler speaks.
SS: This is the last week before I get my daughter back. Therefore, Japan, your wonderful hero Creeping Death needs a dose of reality. CD, as I’m sending you this, know that it’s probably the last time I’ll speak to you face to face before the Nightmare Chamber next week. So know this. I’ve been training like nothing before. Pain endurance to all extents, stamina workouts, everything in the book and even some things that Jade suggested that weren’t. But you know what I’m doing today, Creeps? I’m relaxing. Some time to myself to enjoy life and the memories that I have. Especially the ones of Jade. I treasure her and Katie more than anything. Even this World Title. Which is why Cairo took such a beating at Explosion. However, once this week is over and I get Jade back… I take you down, CD. Simple as that. Yes, you’re the Hardcore Champion. Been there, done that. Yes, you are still one of THE best wrestlers in the WCF and even the world today. You are a better wrestler than I am, Creeps. But two things stopped you from winning, and those two things will be your downfall again.
The crowd are still excited, chanting Striker’s name in Japanese.
SS: You know what those two things are, Creeps? The first is the very move you passed out in last time. Call the loss whatever you want, you lost. You couldn’t handle the pain, and you refused to tap, so you passed out. If you’re so desperate not to lose like that, maybe just tapping next time will be fine. I see it in your eyes, CD. You’re afraid of the Lockdown. You’ve seen the effects it’s had on people. You’ve seen the victim list grow. Take a look, WCF Japan, at just how many people have fallen to it.
A video shows on the Japan screen, the crowd turning their attention to it. The first clip shows Danny Vice as the first victim, refusing to tap to the Lockdown at One and passing out, allowing Striker to retain the Hardcore Title. Kecendro and Seth Lerch’s quick taps are shown before one of the vital clips from Payback rolls. Jack of Blades, WCF World Champion, fights with everything he has but taps out to the Lockdown in his last match before leaving the WCF. And then the WCF Series footage rolls. Seven weeks, seven victims. Biohazard taps first, Creeping Death himself passing out, Thunder also repeating the passing out, and then Williams, Craven, TXO and finally Cairo tapping out in quick succession. The clip ends and the crowd cheer Striker on.
SS: Come on, CD. You’re afraid. I see it in your eyes. As soon as I go for it, you back away as quick as possible. You know you can’t escape it. No-one ever has once it’s locked in. And reason number two, Creeping Death, is the truth.
The crowd are briefly puzzled.
SS: You see, Creeps, the truth is you are a better wrestler than me. The wrestling ring, the Nightmare Chamber, it’s all your own environment. The truth is that if wrestling talent was all it came down to, Creeping Death would have won the World Championship back in the second Series match. But he didn’t. And you won’t this time either, CD. Because while those last two truths are in your favour, the one that matters is in my favour. The truth is, Creeps, that I have the stronger heart. More desire, more passion, more love. And that’s why I win. Because I need to. To prove to my daughters that Skyler Striker is worthy of being their father and that he loves them.
The crowd cheer at Skyler’s show of respect, Japan being a naturally more respectful country than the US.
SS: So when it comes down to this week and the next, CD, whether Epic is by your side or not, you will not defeat me. It all amounts to the fact that I’m Skyler goddamn Striker. Enjoy your next week, CD. It’s not going to be pretty.
Skyler bows to the crowd in respect and they cheer all the louder as ‘Fallen Angels’ hits again. The scene fades here.
If you do not love, you have never truly won.
