Exactly one week after walking out of the Wrestling Championship Federation, still technically holding the WCF World Championship, Eric Price breaks his silence to the press with an interview on ESPN with Bob Costas. A lot of speculation has been made as to why Price left WCF but no one has been able to confirm everything. This interview promises to reveal a lot of things regarding his departure as well as his thoughts on WCF in general now that he has no allegiance or contract with the company.
Transcript from ESPN.com from the show:
Sunday, January 20th, 2013 – 12 Noon ET – ESPN Studios in Los Angeles, CA
*The scene opens up to show the ESPN studios, which look like standard TV Studios with two chairs, on one side is Bob Costas, dressed in a formal suit, on the other side is Eric Price also dressed in a formal suit, in his case a black suit with a navy blue shirt and tie and the WCF World Championship over his shoulder.*
Bob Costas: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to SportsCenter. Today I have an interesting interview lined up. We have Eric Price from the Wrestling Championship Federation with us today, he did something no one has ever done in the history of that company and that is walk out with the company’s World Title in hand. Certainly that has caused a lot of controversy Mr. Price.
Eric Price: Absolutely.
Bob Costas: Mr. Price, do you mind if I call you Eric?
Eric Price: By all means, go right ahead Bob.
Bob Costas: So let’s get right down to it, at the One PPV just two weeks ago, you won the company’s World Championship in what was billed as a great matchup between to of the top competitors in the company and to add even more controversy to the mix, a huge rival of yours Sarah Twilight was the special guest referee.
Eric Price: That’s correct.
Bob Costas: Tell us, what were your thoughts going into that matchup.
Eric Price: Going into that matchup, all I was thinking was “holy (beep), this is my first year here in WCF and I’m in the main event of the top of this company”. Think about it Bob, that would be like in your rookie year and making it to the NBA Playoffs or in football making it to the Superbowl in your first year, it’s a great honor. My concern was to a degree Sarah Twilight as she hates my guts.
Bob Costas: What’s the story between you and her?
Eric Price: Well, it’s kind of complicated. Let’s just say I attempted to start a relationship with her, it didn’t work out, I didn’t take the rejection well and things kind of went downhill from there. Anyway, she surprisingly did her job with honesty in the match and called it right down the middle and then I won the main event of the biggest pay per view in the company along with the company’s most prestigious title.
Bob Costas: We’ll address that moment in just a few minutes because that leads to a few questions I have but in WCF, you certainly have not minced any words against one Terry Roberts. What’s your issue with him?
Eric Price: My issue with Terry Synn Roberts, oh boy, I love when people ask me this question. It’s very simple, he called himself Synn for a while and now he’s Terry Roberts and Terry Synn Roberts because apparently Synn is the evil within or something, I don’t get it. But to make a long story short, I hate them man because he is the most unoriginal piece of crap I’ve ever seen. The man does not have one original thought in his being; everything he does is a rip off or imitation of someone else or something someone else has done before. He flip flops more than most of our politicians Bob and it drives me nuts to see someone like him around. He doesn’t know whether he’s coming or going and quite frankly, I look at the Nielsen ratings and when I look at the quarter hours he has participated in, they are usually the lowest rated of the show because no one cares to see someone whom they can’t understand.
Bob Costas: You’re saying he makes it difficult to be understood?
Eric Price: It’s called character development and the man has no idea what that is. One second he’s Synn then he’s Terry Roberts then he’s the Tooth Fairy then he’s Cinderella. One second he loves Seth Lerch, the next he loves Pantheon, who knows with this guy. I frankly gave up on him because I refuse to deal with someone who can be classified as a schizo as he has no idea who even he is. If he doesn’t know who he is, how can he expect anyone else to understand.
Bob Costas: Now what’s your story with Jeff Purse?
Eric Price: Purse … now there’s a man who’s been a thorn in my side for a long long time. He has done nothing short of show me pure disrespect. I started in the company and him and his friends in Pantheon did nothing but run me down and they said I would never make it in WCF, that I would be gone and be nothing but a blip on the radar. Look at me now, I’m the World Champion of WCF so if this isn’t making it, I don’t know what is. The fact is with Purse, the man ran me down and I decided to show him that I could make it and I did just that. I beat him time and time again in singles competition and yet he got one victory against me and he railed on me about it for months. I beat him at One and finally shut him up.
Bob Costas: Purse got run down by a car on last week’s edition of Slam, that’s the weekly program presented by WCF. Any ideas on who did it? I understand a lot of fingers are pointed your way about that.
Eric Price: Yeah, I would expect as much. Honestly though, I have no idea who did it and I can honestly say that I didn’t do it. Believe me, if I had, I would be the first one bragging about it to everyone because if anyone hated Jeff Purse, it was me. I will give him credit though, he helped me put on one hell of a match at One, I am truly proud of that match.
Bob Costas: Speaking of One, that’s where new ownership took the reigns of WCF. You had promised to walk out of the company provided Fly won that match, what happened there?
Eric Price: Well, it was a shocking turn of events. At our End of the World PPV event in late November, Jonny Fly shocked us all by announcing that he had purchased WCF right out from under Seth Lerch’s nose and that he would take over right after One. He then gave Seth a chance to win back the company at One and I was hoping that Seth would win because Jonny and I … well … we don’t see eye to eye on anything. The fact of the matter with Jonny Fly is he is an arrogant dip(beep) son of a mother(beep) (beep) of an a(beep)hole. And in the end, he only cares for and loves one person and that person is himself. I knew he was a bad element for the company because is a shrewd and dishonest piece of crap.
Bob Costas: Harsh words against the new owner of WCF.
Eric Price: Here’s what bothered me about him, he does nothing but talk about himself and refers to everyone and I mean every single person in the world besides himself as Flyjobbers. Even his own associates are Flyjobbers by his own admission.
Bob Costas: What’s a Flyjobber?
Eric Price: He thinks he can beat everyone so he calls them Flyjobbers because they essentially “job”, which means lose to him. It sickens me to see such a display of arrogance but what bothers me even more is that he claims it is all okay and that people like me are the arrogant ones yet he doesn’t see himself in the same light. He’s even come out and said that the roster is good and all but no one can or will surpass him ever. What kind of a message is that to send to your roster of talent “oh you’re all good but none will be as good as me”? Might as well just send everyone home and not waste your time pushing talent if you think no one will surpass you because there is no point, you just buried your own roster in one fell swoop.
Bob Costas: So how did it come to your contract lapsing and you walking out?
Eric Price: Simple, I had a contract with WCF until December 31st, 2012. I was getting ready to renegotiate my contract but decided against it and instead told Seth to just give me a two week extension on that in the event he somehow lost at One. Unfortunately, that is what happened and Jonny never reviewed the contracts. He thought he had everything in his favor.
Bob Costas: Why not resign with Fly?
Eric Price: Well, I had promised to walk out if Fly had won so in a way, it was to honor an agreement despite the fact that I was the promotion’s champion. But what happened last week pushed me even further; Jeff Purse had threatened to cut off my share of merchandise sales as well as charge me for media appearances like this one per appearance and all sorts of nonsense and Fly was going to allow it. It showed me nothing but an abuse of power. But I was thinking at that moment that maybe I could be reasonable and work out something with Jonny and come to an understanding about my contract, which at the time he had no idea about. I was about to approach him but then he did something I thought was absolutely heinous.
Bob Costas: What’s that?
Eric Price: Last week, he trotted out Seth Lerch, the former owner of WCF, a man who really made WCF into what it is today and humiliated him even renaming him as Seth Cretary and having him do nothing but menial tasks. When I saw that degradation and humiliation, I knew Jonny was an unreasonable piece of trash so I decided at that moment that I would wait until the end of the show to do the big reveal that my contract was lapsing. I caught him off guard and it was a spectacular moment. Ironically, that last segment where I left the company also garnered the highest quarter hour ratings in the history of Slam since its inception. To say that it was a ridiculous thing to allow me to leave is an understatement, Jonny made a huge mistake.
Bob Costas: Any chance of you returning WCF? Fly did say you had two weeks to return should you choose to do so otherwise, he would strip you of the World Title.
Eric Price: He can strip me of the title all he wants. It will render the title completely meaningless and worthless as the next champion will not have beaten the true champion for the title but instead will be held under some farce just to try and justify WCF’s existence. But is there any chance of my return to WCF? We will see, I’ve considered it and if I do return, it will be on my terms. You see, I refuse to allow Jonny to push me around and disrespect me like he’s done with the rest of the roster; I am his most valued commodity and asset and I will make him see that. Let’s just say, there are some surprises ahead.
Bob Costas: Fair enough, some interesting words from Eric Price. Now, I like to this with all my guests, a little word association.
Eric Price: Cool.
Bob Costas: I will say a name, you tell me the first thing that pops into your head.
Eric Price: Shoot.
Bob Costas: Steeltoe Joe.
Eric Price: Religious whackjob.
Bob Costas: Tek.
Eric Price: Overrated loser.
Bob Costas: Corey Black.
Eric Price: Piece of (beep).
Bob Costas: Gravedigger.
Eric Price: Living legend.
Bob Costas: Jeff Purse.
Eric Price: Solid yet disrespectful competitor.
Bob Costas: Jay Price.
Eric Price: Alcoholic, pill popping moron.
Bob Costas: Seth Lerch.
Eric Price: Visionary, great man! Truly embodies the spirit of WCF!
Bob Costas: Terry Roberts.
Eric Price: Delusional wannabe.
Bob Costas: Stuart Slane.
Eric Price: Well meaning but misguided; a great competitor though.
Bob Costas: Steve Orbit.
Eric Price: Ladies man; good competitor.
Bob Costas: Waylon Cash.
Eric Price: Liberal, hippie reefer.
Bob Costas: Sarah Twilight.
Eric Price: Hateful (beep).
Bob Costas: And finally, Jonny Fly.
Eric Price: A nepotistic and arrogant piece of (beep).
Bob Costas: Strong words and an interesting take on WCF from the WCF World Champion Eric Price. Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us here today, it was a pleasure.
*Eric shakes hands with Bob Costas*
Eric Price: The pleasure was all mine, thank you.
Bob Costas: We’re going to take a commercial break now followed up with more NFL coverage. So stay tuned.
*The scene fades to black*
