The day has come. No more thinking, no more preparing can help me now. Very shortly I will be stepping into that Pyramid Structure, facing off with the World Champion. We will fight, we will bleed, we will tear each other apart. And in the end, someone will walk out World Champion.
This is my destiny. This is what I have waited for. It’s here. I don’t have to wait any longer. Destiny is knocking at my door.
I sat in my locker, getting in the proper mindset for what now is only a few minutes away. Most of the preparation had already been taken care of. All of my gear (boots, pads, pants) was on already, except for wrist tape, which I was applying. That is when there was a knock at the door. It was not destiny, no, just Hank Brown. He was dressed in a suit with microphone in hand. I let him in to do the interview. Normally I would say no, but there is so much that I have to get off my chest. A cameraman followed in, and we began.
Hank: Hello, this is Hank Brown, WCF interviewer. I’m here with the #1 contender for the World Title, Thunder. In just a few minutes you will be facing Skyler Striker for the World Title. What is going through your mind right now?
I’m trying to think about a million things at once right now. Trying to figure out what to do when the match begins, how to gain an early advantage, how to put Skyler away when I have the advantage. I’m thinking all those things and who knows how much more right now.
Hank: Are you prepared to put your body on the line in this match?
If that’s what I have to do, then I will do it. Don’t forget Hank, this is a World Title Match. Do you know how many guys dream about this shot and never get it? I’m not going to go out there and not give my all just because I’m afraid I might bleed a little bit. I know this match is going to take a lot out of me, but it’ll be worth it. A true champion will go out there and put their body on the line to win, and that’s what I’m going to do to reach my destiny.
Hank: You’ve defeated Skyler in the past. Is that a factor here?
I’d like to think that it is. But honestly, the answer is no. We have both changed so much since the times we have fought. Obviously, Skyler is World Champion, so he has greatly improved. The same is true for me. And I’m also sure he has learned from prior mistakes against me. We have both matured, making what happened in the past just that: history.
Hank: If you win tonight, you will be a grand slam champion. How important is that to you?
That means a lot because that means I’ll have accomplished everything to do in WCF in less than a year. Who can say they did that? Not a whole hell of a lot. But the title of grand slam champion isn’t the most important thing in this match. Putting that on a resume will look good, but I would take all those titles away to be World Champion. That’s what every guy in the locker room wants, and I’m no different. All the other titles I won were nice, but it wasn’t the best. It’s my time to get that brass ring, to be the top guy in WCF, to reach my destiny. In the end, that World Title is all that matters.
Hank: You match is coming up any second now, so I’ll end the interview here. Good luck in your match tonight.
Thank you.
They exited, and I spent a few seconds alone, just thinking. Then there was yet another knock at the door. A man’s head poked through the door.
Man: It’s time.
That was all he had to say. I got up from the bench I was sitting on, put on the gold robe that was hanging on a hook behind me, and exited the door. After walking a distance that was not too long, I was at the curtain that would, when I walked through it, send me out to the ring. “Money” begins to play. With my right hand I pull the curtain back and see the Pyramid structure, as well as the thousands of screaming fans. I step out onto the ramp. This is it.
It’s time to fulfill my destiny…
