It depends what these rankings are even for. Are they an OOC tool to measure how good you are at roleplaying, or are they an in character indication of how your character is doing? I've always imagined they're the latter, so I think storylined losses/wins should definitely count. Also because sometimes people decide on storylined outcomes but its not announced to the whole fed so its not like Jay would even know whats storylined and what isnt. I'd definitely think no contests should count too, because.. why not? No one here should be competing to try and get a good win/loss record or to try to climb this ladder. If we try to manipulate what counts/doesn't count towards the rankings then it really kind of loses its integrity. EDIT: And keep in mind, if anyone just wants to do their own win/loss for their characters and take out storylined decisions and no contests.. feel free, thats your prerogative, the ladder really shouldn't be a pissing contest. Exactly, my losses and NC/D totals are a little different as to how Jay counts, but they total the same...

My thought when I first started the rankings is it's called "win %" not "loss %". As in, out of the matches you had, how many of them did you win? So if it's not a win, then of course no contests should count, because you didn't win and the vast majority of the time it was at least partially your fault. Anything else is dishonest. It doesn't "count against you", or your character; it's just a number. You could easily just erase win % from the rankings and they would still function the same. I just think statistics are interesting.
Also the intention was indeed for this to mostly be kind of an 'in character' thing (or at least that's where the thought originated; I might not have explained it like that when I introduced it). The only OOC aspect of it that I was thinking of when I made it was in terms of being able to give a quick indicator of who you might want to challenge to a match.
Obviously I can't stop people from thinking or doing whatever the hell they want, nor do I want to, but I think it's helpful to know what the point was in having these to begin with.
Edit: Just read the thread the started all this and the part about ties being "half-wins". For some reason I had always assumed that this happened automatically in the calculations but apparently that's not the case. The extra step in calculating percentages would be simple if you only had to do it once but of course we have like 40+ people here now so doesn't seem like the hassle would be worth it considering that the win% affects absolutely nothing. The rankings always took me a while to put together, and that was with doing them weekly and with a smaller roster. And that's all before we talk about how it would make it easier to make mistakes.
