*A dark room. It's kind of familiar.. almost as if we've seen it in previous promos. There's two sources of light. The fire to one side underneath a large fireplace and the TV at one end of the room. It glows with a bright light, casting it's illumination on a man sat at the desk the TV sits upon. The sound of a rewind can be heard. The camera makes its way past the man to see the televisiona nd what's being played. It's the end of the Triple Threat Match from the last PPV. The moment where Dave Holland tries for a clothesline, misses and is thrown out of the ring with a clothesline from Epic. Shortly after the second clothesline the tape is rewound to the start of the manouever again... and again... and again. Suddenly the tape is paused at the moment just as the clothesline is being hit, the shock on Dave's face very apparent. Then the real Dave Holland begins talking*
Dave: Now that... that was a surprise. I'd held my own against a former world champion, one that deserves a great amount of respect, throughout the entire match. I'd gone toe to toe with one of the past greats of this federation and matched him move for move even with the distraction of another. Until that moment. And at that moment.. I threw it away. That look there. That expression. That is exactly how I felt. Shocked. Surprised. Almost astounded if you will. However I try to take something from each and every match.. and at worst I take something from each and every loss. While I didn't lose directly I lost by association. Felipe's weakness was one I couldn't exploit adequately, nor carry efficiently. That was my failing. And it all came down to that one moment. So what am I taking from this match? Simple. Expect the unexpected. If I expect anything and everything to happen at any given moment there can be no surprises. But how does one do that?
*Dave stands and moves from his desk to the fireplace.*
Dave: Let's consider this fatal four way for the TV Title #1 contendership. Let's consider who's in it and what can be expected from them. Lance Ryan. A man I've faced before and overcame.. though not through direct decision. I've gone toe to toe with him and while I may not have a full experience of the man I think I know enough. He can be expected to be arrogant, dismissive and frankly naive about each and every competitor in this match. He's got athletic talent and a head for the sport... but what's he got that can deal with me or even either of my would be compatriots? Against Anderson he's got to try and overcome the sheer power and technical ability of the man. With Craven he's got to beat off the fists.. the destructive mentality and of course the immense size of the man. One on one.. maybe he could. Against the two of them and with me breathing down his neck.. I severely doubt he has much chance at all.
*Dave takes a log from a basket on the ground and throws it into the fire. Why no one knows.. it's not that cold surely?*
Dave: Anderson I have never met in the squared cirlce, but I've seen him progress from a lower carder to an established member of a successful franchise. Whether he's still part of that franchise I don't know nor particularly care. I'd warn him of the dangers of over-exertion though. Two companies at one time? That can take a lot out of anyone. But that aside I have to consider not just his strength.. but his mentality. He calls himself the 21st century killing machine. What happened to the 20th century killing machine? I can only assum that Jason killed him personally to take over the moniker. That's a dangerous mindset not only to face.. but also to use. It suggests recklessness. It suggests carelessness and frankly it suggests rage, a Berserker Rage. Now what does that mean? Those who play Dungeons and Dragons will know as quite possibly will those who play Gears of War. A berserker rage is one where you block out everything in your environment save those who get in your way. You find the nearest object and dedicate yourself to irradicating it from existance. Then you move to the next. Unfortunately such rages are easily distracted. Tap a man otherwise raging at someone else on the shoulder and that rage becomes suddenly directed solely at you. Anderons's a big guy. While this makes him strong this will always inherently make him slower than most. I can escape slow people with little difficulty and that's precisely where Anderson will fail. All I have to do is set him on one of the others and I can pick up the pieces.
*Dave pokes the fire with a long poker hanging to the side of the fireplace*
Dave: And then there's the former Hardcore Champion., one Johnny Craven. So fast to dismiss anyone he's not met with a mere hint that they're even present in his match. Seems he's got a little vendetta against Creeping Death to repay. Doesn't surprise me in the slightest if I'm brutally honest... which I am most of the time. Also seems to not like men who claim victory before their time. Men like Lance Ryan with his chess analogies. He calls himself the king and yet the king is the second weakest piece on the board. That comparison doesn't fly. Eventually in this game the King's going to have to do some damage.. and that just doesn't fit at all. But anyway I was talking about Craven. You see.. out of everyone going into this match.. Craven could be my worst nightmare.. or my greatest ally. The Hardcore past.. the brawler nature.. the huge... object! That man is like a walking brick wall, and like Anderson he moves like a brick wall too. Slow but powerful. I can dodge him aswell as the others.. but if any of them pull an epic and perform unlike anything I can expect of them.. it could all go wrong. But even if it does.. even should it all fall horribly to pieces there is something within that I can rely on.
*Dave pushes a button on the remote control he was using on the television earlier. Cheers and chants can be heard. They're from his entrance that went unbroadcast. The crowd chanting his name and cheering him down to the ring.*
Dave: Those watching me prepare the fire are probably wondering why. It's June. It's hot. Why would I have a roaring fire going? To remind me. The same reason I fight for all of you is the very reason I started fighting for myself. I have a passion. A desire. I aim for excellence. I perform to succeed. And I do so with a prayer on my lips and fire in my heart and in my eyes. When I get started I am truly relentless. I stop at nothing, Nothing! That fact is never going to change. I get knocked down... It's never for long. Like the song says I get right back up again. Because within me is the fire that burns. The fire that drives, the fire that continues to give me the strength of will to try the new.. to try the daring.. to try the unexpected. To become predictable in this business is worse than death itself. If you can be predicted you can be countered. If you're countered once.. what's to stop it happening again and again and again save fatigue alone? Nothing. That fire keeps me fresh.. keeps me new.. keeps me at the peak of my physical ability. To be unpredictable... that is the greatest ability of them all. When I claim the TV Title shot... It will be to the complete shock and awe of the world.
*Dave suddenly returns his gaze back to the TV where the crowd are still cheering for him and chanting his name*
Dave: Well.... maybe not the whole world.
*Dave smiles.. his face cast in a flickering orange as the scene fades to full black and the scene ends.*
