Scene One: The After-Party
Roy Speede and Abbie Grande are in their locker room a couple days after One. Roy is sitting on the couch, a sullen look on his face as he just sits there. Abbie, however, seems livid, up pacing the floor as words of anger flow from her lips. Roy shakes his head in disgust as the camera picks up on their conversation.
Abbie Grande: ”How could you do this, Roy? You let that sniveling little bitch get away! And what’s worse, it looks like you two are friends now! I thought you had respect for the fans, Roy. I thought you wanted to send the fans home happy no matter what the cost, and then you pull this kind of stunt and now I don’t know what to think about you. I’m disappointed, Roy. Honestly, I am. You pulled this in my first show back, too; how could you? I thought you cared about your appearance and cared about what the fans thought of you. This is completely different, Roy. You’re associating yourself with that whore?!? I don’t e-“
Roy cuts her off with words of his own.
Roy Speede: ”Abbie, I get it. That is enough. I understand where you’re coming from, but this is my decision to make. I’ve pandered to those people for so long that hearing them cheer for me is all but common happenstance. Enemies make alliances all the time, and it turns out that not many people know you better in a wrestling ring than your archrival.”
Abbie Grande: ”Okay, well what about Mr. FPV? He’s the one you’re challenging for the tag belts with, not Kaylyn. What’s he going to think when you try to drop him like a lead balloon to go team with Kaylyn, huh? I thought you and Frankie were buddies, but you’re going to betray his trust like this? What’s gotten into you?”
Roy Speede: ”What’s gotten into me? What’s gotten into me? I’ve straightened out my priorities, Abbs, and I’ve figured out where I stand as far as my tag team partner goes. Mr. FPV and I have always worked well as a team, so there’s no doubt we’ll take those title belts back, but the one I think I should be teaming with is Kaylyn. She and I know one another very well after all these run-ins, and I think we’d work well toge-“
Abbie returns the favor, cutting him off.
Abbie Grande: ”So you’re going to walk away from Mr. FPV if you get the chance to team with Kaylyn? Roy, I thought I knew you better than this! You’ve changed, Roy. You never used to be like this at all, and now I don’t even know the man I’m talking to anymore. You used to be that sweet, caring, compassionate guy who always looked out for what was truly best, but now I don’t know what to think about you anymore. Think of Mr. FPV. This whole thing must make him wonder whether he can trust you, and I quite frankly don’t blame him. You make it sound like if you win the tag team title belts, you’re going to try to break up the team and give one half to Kaylyn or something like that.”
Roy Speede: ”Abbie, you know me. I’m not going to do that. FPV knows me, and he knows I’m not going to do that. I work hard for what I’m given in the wrestling ring, and when we reclaim what is rightfully ours on Sunday, I’m not going to throw that all away for Kaylyn; when I get my hands on that gold for the third time, I’m not letting go. Kaylyn is my friend now, though, Abbie. She understands that I can’t walk away from a commitment to Mr. FPV as a tag partner, but when the team splits up some time down the road, when we get bored of holding the tag team title belts, Kaylyn and I might make a good team. I don’t know what you’re so worried about.”
Abbie Grande: ”You don’t know what I’m worried about? Roy, you’re getting involved with the wrong crowd! Kaylyn is a menace! Don’t you remember, just days ago you were telling everyone how much you hated her. What the hell happened to you?”
Roy Speede: ”What happened to me? What do you mean, Abbie? Kaylyn and I worked things out, and we’re not going to go after one another anymore. If it’s a problem that I buried the hatchet with an old enemy, then I’d like to know why.”
Abbie Grande: ”Why is it a problem, Roy? Think about it! You’re only becoming her friend because she’s a girl, Roy. Look around the WCF; there are a lot better people you could become a team with than her, but no. You didn’t; you decided that you’d become friends with the one girl in WCF that has breasts and a shapely waistline! You’re no better than any other horny little pervert, Roy. You just wanted to find a girl who would suck your dick so that you didn’t have to wear out your hand.”
Roy Speede: ”Oh, I knew I would hear that from you! Just because I’m teaming with the girl, you automatically think it’s because I want to get laid, don’t you? News flash, Abbs! I’m not a perv like most of these guys! In case you weren’t aware, you’re the first and only girl I’ve slept with.”
Abbie Grande: ”Bullshit, Roy Speede. I saw how touchy feely you got with that Aubrey Summers. There’s no way in hell you didn’t fuck her brains out off-camera! You expect me to believe that you never let your guard down to that little blonde bimbo?”
Roy Speede: ”It is the truth, Abbs. If you don’t want to see it, that’s fine. I’m not forcing you to see the truth if you’re too blind to understand what has really happened. I never slept with Aubrey, even if I probably should’ve looking back. She wanted me to, but I just couldn’t. Sex that quick into a relationship screws things up for me. You saw what happened when we were dating, don’t you? I didn’t want to make that same mistake.”
Abbie Grande: ”Well look how that turned out; you lost her! You messed up, and she dumped you because you wouldn’t make a move! God, Roy, you are such an idiot! You don’t know anything about girls, and it’s that kind of crap that’s going to lead you to screw up again and again. If a girl is hinting she wants you to make a move, don’t hesitate you moron, go for it! God, it’s like you’re a five year old; I don’t even know how you got with Aubrey in the first place; stupid slut.”
Roy Speede: ”You’re the moron, Abbie. A girl that truly loved her man would understand that there are times when a guy just isn’t ready to make a move. You sound like such an idiot right now because you don’t understand that I have the moral standard of staying in a relationship. I’m not all about one night stands like a lot of the perverts in this world, Abbie. I aim for better than that!”
Abbie Grande: ”Well that’s too bad, Roy. It’s no wonder you couldn’t keep a girl. Girls are human too, and they have urges that need to be satisfied, and you need to learn how to satisfy those urges. Take hints; be impulsive; use your instincts; don’t act like a scared little toddler for God’s sakes!”
Roy Speede: ”You think I don’t know what I’m doing? I’ve spent my life sorting through the whores who’re just in it for sex looking for someone with the same values as me. That’s why we broke up, Abbie. You see things differently than I do, and you act on things out of a simple whim. I act out of impulse a lot, but not when it comes to sex. My instincts are what makes me one of the best high-flyers the WCF has ever seen, so don’t you try to talk to me about impulse or instinct!”
Abbie Grande: ”You know what, Roy? I don’t even know who you are anymore! I don’t know why I came back to this company to try to be your manager again! I quit!”
Roy Speede: ”You wish, Abbs. You know exactly why you came back to be my manager again. You missed being in my arms; you missed seeing me every day and being on tour with me; you missed my chiseled body and rock hard abs; you missed the gentle kiss of my lips when our tongues used to have their own little wrestling matches; you missed the tender embrace of the best thing you ever had, and the best you ever will. But you blew it young lady! You went and blew it, you know that? There’s never going to be anyone that will love you the way I loved you, but you screwed up, and I told you once and for all that your time is over with me!”
A tear streaks down Abbie’s face as she stares at Roy, hearing those words. She turns toward the door, away from Roy, so that her tears aren’t visible as she walks toward the door. She turns the knob as she looks back at him, trying to hold back sobs.
Abbie Grande: ”You... you’re... you’re right, Roy. Ever since we broke up, I’ve missed you like crazy, and all I wanted was to have you back, and to have another chance to show you that I’m the girl that deserves to be your lover and deserves to be held in your arms and given that gentle kiss. Seeing you with Aubrey... It killed me, Roy. It pained me to see that you were with someone else when you should’ve been with me. I guess I... I guess I was just jealous, Roy, because you found someone else to receive that love that I was so accustomed to getting while I got none of it. I think I should just go and let you get focused. You’ve got a triple threat tag team match this week, and I know you’ll be incredibly happy when you win those belts back.”
Roy Speede: ”Okay, Abbie. You be careful. I’ll see you later, okay?”
Abbie Grande: ”Okay.”
She walks back over to where Roy is sitting and bends over before giving him a kiss on the cheek. Roy watches as she stands back up and proceeds back to the door before stepping out, closing the door behind her. Roy shakes his head as he sits back, just thinking, and about ten seconds later, there is a knock at the door. Roy gets up and approaches the door, speaking at the same time.
Roy Speede: ”Who is it?”
There isn’t an answer, but as Roy opens the door, standing before him is Kaylyn James Evans, a rather concerned look on her face. She looks back over her shoulder as Abbie walks away, and when she’s out of hearing range, Kaylyn speaks rather softly, so as to make sure Abbie didn’t hear.
Kaylyn James Evans: ”What was that all about? I could hear you two screaming all the way down the hall.”
Roy Speede: ”That was nothing to be concerned with, Kaylyn. She’s just unhappy because we dated for a while and broke up last May, and then when I dated that Aubrey girl, she got jealous, and now that she’s made her return, she wants me back, but she’s thinking something’s going on between us, or something like that.”
Kaylyn James Evans: ”Oh. Well what did you tell her?”
Roy Speede: ”I just told her that she had her chance with me, and she blew it, and that I’m not in a state of mind to take her back because, quite honestly, I don’t feel that she and I are anything more than friends. And besides, I’m not going to contradict my feelings for y-I mean, I’ve got my eyes set on someone else.”
Kaylyn giggles lightly at the statement, noticing Roy’s slip-up.
Kaylyn James Evans: ”Oh? Anyone I might know?”
Roy Speede: ”Yeah, you’d probably recognize the name. But hey, I’m sorry about your match last week. I tried to stop the pin, but I was just a bit too late. Anyway, I really have to get going. I promised my cousin Alex I’d fill him in on what’s happening in WCF at a sparring session in a little under an hour. He’s been working to get back into shape for wrestling, and I-“
Kaylyn James Evans: ”Whatever, Roy. I know you tried. And of course, you go have fun with your little cousin. We’ll talk about this later.”
Roy Speede: ”Excellent! Hey, we’re still on for dinner tonight to discuss future plans, right?”
Kaylyn James Evans: ”I guess so. I’ll see you then.”
Kaylyn turns to leave, but Roy grabs her hand and pulls her back to him. He leans in and gives her a quick peck on the cheek.
Roy Speede: ”And be careful while I’m gone. there are always people around here gunning for the Perfect Ten.”
She nods lightly, and turns to walk away, this time uninterrupted, and Roy locks his locker room door before walking off. The scene cuts to black.
Scene Two: Training
The scene reopens some time later to Roy Speede and his cousin, a former WCF Tag Team Champion, Alex Haden, in a wrestling ring, trading holds and going move for move against one another, with some mild conversation thrown in.
Alex Haden: ”So Abbie came back, huh? Why? I thought she hated you.”
Roy Speede: ”So did I, Alex, but it appears as though she’s gotten over the breakup. I think she’s even trying to hint that she wants to get back together with me.”
Alex Haden: ”She what? I thought she hated you!”
Roy Speede: ”So did I, but it doesn’t seem like it anymore. Either way, she seems a bit pissed about the whole Kaylyn thing.”
Alex Haden: ”What Kaylyn thing? Last I’d heard you faced her at One. How’d that go?”
Roy Speede: ”You didn’t see what happened? After a little discussion, Kaylyn and I buried the hatchet and became friends, and well...”
Alex Haden: ”You what? I don’t believe that, Roy! You hated her guts last I’d seen. What about what happened to Aubrey? Don’t you remember how she treated her?”
Roy Speede: ”Yeah, I never forgot that dude, but there’s the thing. I don’t care anymore. I realized that dating Aubrey was a mistake and when we broke up, I was almost glad. She wanted to push things too fast when quite honestly I knew nothing about her. I may not be sure where Kaylyn and I stand exactly, but I could definitely see us getting together in the future. And you can’t say she isn’t damned gorgeous.”
Alex Haden: ”What happened to ‘looks don’t matter’ dude? I thought you cared more about the inside than what was on the outside!”
Roy Speede: ”I do care about what’s on the inside, dude, and that’s why I can no longer stand to be around Aubrey Summers. Kaylyn’s really not that evil if you’re not being a jerk to her. That was my problem; I was being an asshole to her because I was blinded by Aubrey. Without Aubrey around, Kaylyn’s so much more... More... Acceptably nice.”
Alex Haden: ”What? I don’t believe you, Roy. You’re crazy.”
Roy Speede: ”That may be true, but I’m also involved with one of the hottest girls to ever set foot in a wrestling ring. But anyway, down to business, when are you making your return?”
Alex Haden: ”My return? Well, knowing your match this week is for a tag team title shot, I’d have loved to be making my return this week, but since you’re teaming with Frankie again, I guess I’ll wait until you two lose the tag belts.”
Roy Speede: ”Alright, that’s fine with me. Better to be safe and not rush it than to be sorry, right?”
Alex Haden: ”Right. But going back, why Kaylyn? Why not Ashley? Her manager is pretty hot, and you were working with her against Kaylyn to begin with.”
Roy Speede: ”Too goody-goody for me. Aubrey seemed to be goody-goody, but she was a bad girl underneath, and that’s what I liked about her at the time. Kaylyn’s a bad girl inside and out, and that’s what I’m after.”
Alex Haden: ”What the hell is wrong with you dude? I swear, you should’ve gotten back with Abbie. You two made such a perfect couple!”
Roy Speede: ”No. She and I are through. I told you that already, bro; I’m not going back to her again. That part of my life is behind me.”
Alex Haden: ”I can’t believe you dude. You’ve changed. There’s something wrong with you and I’m going to find out what. But until then, I’m done talking to you.”
Alex hip tosses Roy over his head and then slides out of the ring, walking back to the locker room. Roy gets to his knees, watching Alex walk away and wondering what he said. The scene fades to black.
Scene Three: Inteview
Fast forward until the hours before Slam. Hank Brown is on his traditional interview set, and beside him stands Roy Speede. Each of them holds a microphone, and a finger appears in one corner of the shot before disappearing right after, presumably telling Hank to start because he does so right away.
Hank Brown: ”Hello ladies and gentlemen. As always, I’m Hank Brown standing by, and with me is one of the youngest wrestlers ever to walk the halls of the WCF. I’m talking about Roy Speede, The Silver Lining who just last week betrayed the world’s trust and aligned himself with Kaylyn James Evans. Now Roy, just why did you decide in the middle of your match to stop fighting and put it to an end?”
Roy Speede: ”Quite frankly, Hank, we came to an understanding, and to try to put her through as little as possible before her match against Jonny Fly, we called the match a draw so that she could save her strength and try to win the TV Title belt. It was a total fluke that Fly won that match, mind you, but we tried to get her that title belt.”
Hank Brown: ”I see, but the question I’m asking is why?”
Roy Speede: ”I just told you, Hank. We came to an understanding. That’s all you need to know.”
Hank Brown: ”Okay... Well, anyway, you’re a part of a triple threat tag team match this week to crown the new Tag Team Champions. You’re teaming with the man you held the belts with last time, Mr. FPV, and you two never lost the titles. What are your thoughts about getting to team with him again?”
Roy Speede: ”To put it simple for you, I’m glad to see that Seth understands where those tag belts belong. FPV and I never lost them, and we deserve them back. Now I know, all four of my opponents are probably expecting me to say just that, but what they don’t realize is that there’s something each of those teams lacks. FPV and myself are two of the best wrestlers in the WCF today, and even after Frankie went on a hiatus for damn near four months, he and I are ready to reign supreme again. Not only do we have talent, but we have the teamwork that is required to be dominant in the tag team division. I feel sorry for those for poor guys that get to challenge us for the belts we never lost; they’re going to feel a pain the likes of which I’ve never dealt in a wrestling match before. I’ve kept it pretty bottled up for the last while, but I’m furious that my tag belt was taken from me without me losing it, and I damned well expect to get it back. I won’t settle for anything less.”
Hank Brown: ”It’s good to see that you have the desire to get those belts back, and I’m certain you and FPV are going to do everything you can to win them back, but you have four guys to worry about that are going to try and stop you. Let’s start with the Redneck Express. What are your thoughts about the team of Adam Young and Hunter?”
Roy Speede: ”What are my thoughts on Adam Young and Hunter? Are you fucking kidding me, Hank? They’re a pair of jokes! Honestly, I never expected I’d get a chance to shut that loudmouthed jobber up, and getting to face Adam Young is my chance to do just that. Sure, the guy’s a two time tag team champion, but how long as it been since this guy’s seen WCF gold, might I ask? No, don’t even bother, Hank, I’ll answer my own question. It’s been almost two years. Twenty-two fucking months have passed since this guy has held a tag team championship belt in the WCF, and that span of time is damned well not going to stop now. He’s a fucking idiot, Hank; he’s been here for nearly three years, and all he has to show for it is a pair of tag team title reigns totaling, what, a month, if that. I held the tag team title belts twice myself, but unlike him, my first reign lasted a full month, and then my second lasted three before that idiot that runs the company vacated them. Hell, if he had any sense in his head, he’d have let us hold onto the belts; it’s been four months since anyone’s touched them, and it’s been seven since FPV and I won them last time; it’ll be like they never left our shoulders, and it would have almost been easier to have let us keep the damned things. If Adam Young thinks he’ll ever hold one of these tag team title belts again, he’s sorely mistaken.
Think about it, Hank. He’s pathetic. He won his belts off of the likes of Jimmy Dean, Chris Avery, and Tank Reaper, three different morons who should never have set foot in the WCF for fear of making the history of the company look bad, and Chad Evans. Chad was an excellent wrestler, but he must have been off his game the night he teamed with Jimmy Dean if he let Adam Young claim the tag team title belts for himself and Adam Austin, or whatever his name was. I say again, think about it, Hank. Think about the people I’ve claimed my tag team title belts from. When I first won my tag belt alongside Alex Haden, it was off Gravedigger and Troy Malenko; yes, Gravedigger, the guy in the Hall of Fame. Then FPV and I took the belts from Donald Deruty and Logan. Logan, the the five time World Champion, and Donald ‘D-Day’ Deruty, the man who only two weeks prior had claimed the World Championship as his own. We’re pro caliber tag team material. Adam Young is such a worthless sack of crap, I wouldn’t eat a burger at the same fast food joint as him.”
Hank Brown: ”Some very strong words against ‘The One’, Adam Young there, Roy.”
Roy Speede: ”Shut it with the nicknames for the loser, Hank. How many gimmicks has this man gone through in the last year, I ask you? He’s been a Big Time Jerk. He’s been the Antichrist. He’s been The One. He’s been a Redneck Express member. He’s been so many god damned nicknames I don’t care anymore. His name is Adam Young, and he’s the worst wrestler to ever set foot in a WCF ring, and Seth Lerch would be wise to terminate his contract and save a buck fifty a week; that’s all Adam Young deserves to be paid with the kind of performance he puts on in the ring.”
Hank Brown: ”Ouch. I can even feel that one. But remember, Speede, he’s not your only opponent to worry about. You’re up against the team of Nightrider and Jeff Purse, too. What are your thoughts on them?”
Roy Speede: ”Nightrider and Jeff Purse? Where is Seth Lerch getting these teams? Jeff Purse is a knock-off of FPV’s old buddy Da Funk, and nothing but a wanna-be party boy who lacks the in-ring talent to wrestle. I wouldn’t blame the man for skipping out on our match to find something better to do because honestly, he couldn’t accomplish anything by himself it seems. He calls himself ‘The Future’? Oh how many times have I heard that one? Maybe it’s because Jay Price has been the talk of the WCF on and off for the last eleven months, but I’m sick and tired of hearing about the future of WCF. You want to know the future of the WCF, Hank? You’re looking at him. Jeff Purse is a nobody, and when I’m through with him he’ll fade into obscurity. Just look what happened to Odin Balfore after he faced me; the big man was so confident in his ability, and yet when I pinned him, it all went down the tube, and then he even ended up losing his belt two weeks later to Corey Black. Jeff Purse hasn’t even taken a grip on a belt in the WCF yet. He’ll fade into obscurity so fast nobody will have even heard of him by the time I’m through.
And then we’ve got Nightrider. Sounds like somebody ripped off an old television show to find their ring name, doesn’t it? He may be lazier than motherfucking Johnny Knuckles, if that’s the best he can come up with. Hell, I use my real name around here, and it sounds a lot better than what he calls himself. If that’s even the slightest indication of his in-ring ability, this will be the easiest walk in the park since before I got my dog, Hank. He’s out of shape, overweight, and completely worthless. I feel sorry for Jeff Purse for trying to tag with a moron like him. At least Jeff Purse is a capable person who wouldn’t be gasping for air after running from one end of the ring to another, right fatty? Yeah, I went there Nightrider. I’m calling you out on your weight. But why not, I mean, it’s better than talking about how you decided to step up a level rather than drifting back into the Indy circuit when ACW folded and died like the worthless place it was, and how that’s going to come back to haunt you, right?
Yeah, yeah, I broke the fourth wall. Who gives a damn? These two have come from fighting one another in a shithole to teaming with one another to face the best tag team this world will ever come across in WCF, and whether they like it or not, they’re stuck as partners. They don’t have the long-running team chemistry like FPV and I, and Adam and Hunter even have that going for them. Purse, you are probably the one of the four I worry about actually having some talent, but then again, I don’t back down from a fight to begin with. Think of it this way; Odin and I faced off one on one. Was I scared? A bit. Did I back down? Fuck no! And if you think I’m standing aside to let you take the tag belts that rightfully belong to FPV and myself, you’re dead wrong. This match is ours, those belts are ours, and glory shall be ours, and you all won’t stand a chance. Here Hank, I’m done talking about these little bastards.”
Roy hands Hank the microphone and walks away as the scene cuts to black.
Roy Speede and Abbie Grande are in their locker room a couple days after One. Roy is sitting on the couch, a sullen look on his face as he just sits there. What’s he going to think when you try to drop him like a lead balloon to go team with Kaylyn, huh? I thought you and Frankie were buddies, but you’re going to betray his trust like this?
