The scene opens with a close-up of an ESPN magazine with the savior of New Orleans, Drew Brees, on the cover. The lens slowly works its way up the periodical and peeks over the top edge as if trying to sneak a peek at the article that is being read or the picture that is being viewed. A set up eyes peers up into the camera and the magazine begins to lower, revealing the face of Allen Guiliano. He is in his normal business attire, suit jacket, pressed white shirt underneath, adorned with a blood red tie that hangs down from the tight knot at his throat. He look is completed with simple black slacks and his normal white and black wing-tipped shoes. The Italian slowly turns the page, darting his eyes back and forth from the page to the lens.
You people will follow me anywhere won't you? A guy can't even go to the doctor's office without a little camera watching his every move, but then again I guess that is the goal of today's society. Worry about the business of your favorite celebrity and analyze their lives instead of worrying about your own. I don't know, maybe I'm being hypocritical. After all, I've worried about my the lives of my opponent's before the week of a match before. The most recent time would have to be before my World Championship match back in December. In fact, I worried so much about getting into the head of my opponent and trying to gain an advantage that I forgot what the ultimate goal actually was and that was winning the damn match. Too many distractions, too much thinking, not enough relaxing and doing what I do best and that is winning wrestling matches.
Guiliano slowly skims through the last few pages of the magazine and flips to the back cover, holding the newest issue between two fingers before standing up and tossing it onto the nearest table. The pages flutter down and come to rest on the glass table that is littered with other reading materials. The camera then takes a moment to take in the rest of the environment, revealing a small waiting room complete with dull blue chairs that line the walls and the table of newspapers, magazines, and books in the center. On the wall hangs a small shelf that displays pamphlets on various health conditions such as high blood pressure, migraines, arthritis, and yes, even erectile dysfunction. Guiliano glances over the pamphlets, raises a brow, and then continues wandering the empty waiting room, glancing over a fish tank that sits on a stand near the door. The tank is quite large and is obviously a saltwater tank as the exotic fish of various colors make their way through the water in monotonous motions, making their way in front and then behind the plants and other decorations that sit in the neon blue colored rocks. Guiliano peers through the glass, squinting his eyes as he monitors the movements of the fish. He puts his hand to the glass and lightly taps on the side, drawing the attention of a few of the creatures that feel the direct vibration in the water. A smile forms over his face as he watches.
Amazing how these fish used to just be one of millions in the sea and now they are the center of attention in a place like this. The sad part about it is that they have no idea people are watching them, nor do they care, or maybe they do, but who knows? Just goes to show you how quickly your situation can change. Goes to show you that things are not always as they appear. I'm sure on the inside of this take, it looks like the world is limitless, and then you find your nose up against a pane of glass and sometimes with another nose staring right back at you. Thank God for those little kids that smear the sides of the tank with their greasy fingers and make it obvious where the “end of the world” is for these little guys. The illusion of a limitless world kind of reminds me of my watch this week with Mikami. Don't even begin to ask why a fish tank made me think of a wrestling match, more less of an individual that I have face on several occasions, but perhaps I can try to explain.
The WCF superstar makes his way to his feet once again and begins to slowly wander the room, walking in as large a circle as the small room with allow. He realizes that this will only cause dizziness and settles back down in his original chair as an employee at the doctor's office comes back to the check-in window and raises a brow at the scene that is taking place in the small room on the other side of the glass. Guiliano flashes her a warm smile to assure her that everything is “normal” before turning his attention back to the WCF employee.
As I stated before, for those fish, things are not what they appear and definitely not what they used to be. When taking a glance at the main event this week, this match is not what it appears. This time, when Mikami and I meet in the center of the ring, there is a lot less at stake. Tonight there will be no titles on the line, no championship chances to be won, and no bragging rights to be attained. Sure, Mikami can get back at me for the defeats he suffered in our past encounters, and I'm sure that is motivation enough for him, but for me, my focus is on the future.
However, I think people are underestimating the entertainment value of this match and seeing it as just another Slickie T victory, but I am not taking Mikami lightly. He is a very talented individual and I respect his abilities despite our past meetings. We are both very different wrestlers since those United States Championship skirmishes. Both of us have faced new opponents and have different issues that stand in our way. He was the favorite and was distracted when we met in our first match, but this time the tables are reversed. Mikami is the clear underdog this time around, but it is I who have the distractions to worry about. With all of the opponents that I have to face next week at the Ten main event, I have to keep my head on a swivel to ensure that my aspirations of becoming the next WCF World Champion do not end before I get a chance to walk down that ramp in Pennsylvania. Creeping Death, Brad Kane, and Logan are just as poised as I am to wear that title belt around their waist as I am, and that doesn't even take into account the tension that exists between Torture and myself.
The feud that Mikami and I had back in the early part of my career has been long forgotten by this federation and our meeting on Sunday will be like that original bout when neither of us knew what to expect from our opponent. Also, Mikami has NOTHING to lose this time around and I have NOTHING to gain except for another tally in my win column. By no means is this a week off for me and there is no question that being scheduled for the main event puts a little more pressure to entertain on the men that will be inside the squared circle to end the evening. Another pressure that sits on my shoulders is to simply escape the match in one piece and keep myself it peak condition for next Sunday. It is something that I haven't really worried about before and can be seen by the suicidal wrestling style that I employ, but nothing less than my best will be sufficient at Ten.
That reason alone is one of the reasons I stand here before you in this mundane office, waiting for a doctor to look me over and assure me that I am healthy enough to compete at the level that I need to in just one week. Not that it matters what he has to say as I will be in that ring at Ten regardless of any professional opinion that I may get, but it will put my mind at ease and take away any distractions that could possibly surmount in a week's time. Things will be different this time around, I assure you of that. As a matter of fact, I should look to this match on Sunday night as a nice tune-up for the ultimate match at The Sovereign Center. Mikami, it is no secret that we both know what we are up against this week and despite what the critics might say and what the fans are expecting, I will go into this match just like any other. You have proved yourself to be a great competitor here in the WCF and there is no doubt you will be trying to prove that you belong in the World Championship discussion just like the rest of the men that are in that main event at Ten. I will give it everything I've got this week, just like I do every week, but between you and I, I have a little piece of advice for you....
Guiliano is interrupted as a nurse steps through a small wooden door near the corner of the waiting room to announce the name of the next patient. Seeing as how there is only one man standing in the room, other than the guy with a camera on his shoulder, it is quite obvious what the name will be.
Nurse: Mr. Allen Guiliano?
She asks in the form of a question as if she is not sure which person will respond, but Guiliano quickly raises his hand and starts to walk toward her, smirking to the camera as if he knew his final sentence would never be completed before even staring to make the statement. He follows the nurse through the door as she shuts it behind her and takes him into another open area.
Mr. Guiliano, if you could please take off your shoes and stand on that scale for me. I'm simply going to take your height and weight before we go back to the examination room.
Guiliano does as he is told, slipping off his wingtips along with this suit jacket and steps up onto the small black square as the nurse walks over and starts to adjusts the sliders on the old fashioned scale, nudging both of the black weights, setting one at 200, and lightly tapping the other until the rails balance.
Alrighty. It looks like you are at about 205. That is about 10 pounds less than last time. Are you trying to lose weight or is that weight loss an accident?
I wouldn't necessarily call it an accident. I have been keeping myself in better shape since that last time I have been here. I started my wrestling career back up and those other guys force me to keep myself in the best condition that I can possibly be in. I'm sure enjoying the unlimited buffets at The Guiliano and other establishments around Vegas don't do me any good, but I like to think that I can justify it by my regular workouts when I am on the road with the Wrestling Championship Federation.
Alright, well, glad to hear that you are in an normal exercise routine. Has it helped your stress problems that we talked about last time you were in here. Seemed like your physical condition was suffering because of the everyday activities of your job. From what you are telling me, its as if returning to your former career as a wrestling is doing good things for your mental health.
Well, I would have to say that when I first started back up it was very helpful with stress relief, but as I have become more involved in the organization I am currently with, the level of stress is starting to go back up. I suppose that it is coming from the pressure of having to perform week in and week out and keep myself free of injury and illness. I was hoping a routine check-up might be able to help me with that and in turn relieve some of the extra stress that has built up because of my new found role as a professional wrestler.
Well, there isn't much more I can do for you except for take your height. I will make a note of it on your chart and see what Dr. Green has to say about it. He may be able to give you some kind of medication that will keep your stress level down and ease some of the pressure that you are feeling.
The last thing I want is to have to rely on some daily pill to help me perform. The less substances I feel I have to put into my body, the better.
A daily pill to peform? Mr. Guiliano, this isn't Viagra, its just something that will help you to relax and ease some of things that may be on your mind.
The nurse grabs a ring on the top of the scale and extends the measuring stick up into the air, pulling out a small metal flap and rests it on top of Guiliano's head, pressing it down lightly and reading the mark.
Looks like you are still at 74 inches, as expected. Before you go in there, I just need to ask a few questions. You on any type of prescription medication? Have you had any difficulty sleeping, eating, etc.? And, besides the stress that we discussed earlier, has there been anything else that has been bothering you in terms of either your physical or mental health?
Guiliano shakes his head and steps back off the scale slipping his shoes back on, reaching down to tie the laces, watching the nurse intently as she scribbles on the clipboard in front of her. She then looks back up at him and flashes him a smile before staring to head down a wide hallway with doors spaced in equal increments on each side. She then stops in front of one of the doors and pulls down the silver handle before pushing it open and welcoming Guiliano inside.
Alright, Mr. Guiliano, just have a seat up on the table and Dr. Green will be with you shortly. Sorry cameraman, but you aren't allowed in there...
The nurse walks out of view as the cameraman films Guiliano from the hallway as he hops up onto the examination table and lets his legs dangle over the end, swinging his feet back and forth like a child as he waits, his eyes darting around the room. After a few moments a man in a long white coat comes into view and slides into the room, giving a quick shake of the head to the camera and closing the door.
Dr. Green: Hi, nice to see you again Allen, Cindy tells me that you are...
The audio fades out as the screen fades to black and the WCF logo appears.
