TMZ
The scene opens as the heat of summer beat down on Kyle Kemp as he walks out of Midway Airport in Chicago. He is wheeling a black carry on bag with him and is wearing sky blue shorts, a pink vneck and his usual white Air Force Ones sneakers. He smiles at various people who recognize him and are pointing at him. He has to admit, this does feel nice. It’s nice to walk through the airport and see people look at him without hate in their eyes and some even smiled. Maybe this whole new leaf he has turned is helping his image more than he thought.
He continues to smile when he notices a guy holding a camera, standing outside of the airport. Kemp has seen him out here before. He tapes celebrities and then sends the tapes into TMZ. He usually gets good stuff. Kemp smiles and knows that this is just something he is going to have to get through. Kemp walks out the door and the man says, “Kyle! Kyle!”
“What’s up man?” Kemp says as he slows his pace down. He can’t say no to a camera.
“Are you ready for Sunday? We have been seeing you all over promoting it.”
“I’m more than ready. It’s going to to be a war but one that I’m ready for.”
“That’s awesome. Your mother’s will reading is coming up in the next couple of weeks. Are you and your family ready for that?”
“Well it should only be a formality. We are all on the same page. We aren’t going to fight about it.”
“But what about the supposed other daughter that we have been hearing about the past couple days?”
This makes Kemp stop. He hasn’t heard anything about this. What do they mean other daughter? “I’m not sure of what you are talking about.”
The cameraman smiles. Kemp obviously didn’t know about this which makes this great TV. “Well a woman has come forward claiming to be your mother’s daughter. She says she has a right to some of the Kemp assets that your mother is going to give away at her will reading. “
Kemp’s eyes turn to rage as he thinks about this. How dare someone use his mother’s death for their own personal gain. “I know nothing about this but I can guarantee you that whoever this woman is, she’s lying.”
“100 percent sure?”
“You’re damn right. Now excuse me, I’ve got to be somewhere.” Kemp picks the pace back up and walks in front of the cameraman, looking for a taxi but wondering what the hell is going on. Who is this woman?
I’m the Captain
It was a little over two months ago where I decided to make my return to the WCF. My mother had passed and I was numb inside. I needed to feel the rush of being inside the ring again. I had to get back to the WCF and I had to feel what had been missing ever since my Mom had left this Earth. She was my light and she was someone that had shown me the way and the only way to properly memorialize her was to come back to this company and finally rise to the top. Finally take my spot at the top of the WCF mountain.
I knew that it wasn’t going to be easy because I wasn’t really on a roll when I left. I had become complacent and had phoned in a few matches. That’s the honest truth and I’m not one to stand here and pull the wool over all of your eyes. I was going through the motions as my mother’s cancer news hit me. At first I thought I would be able to wrestle through it but I was unable to focus. I missed so many opportunities that I knew the only way to save my reputation was to leave and come back when I was ready. I was ready at Asesinato De Mayo.
That was the night that that sniveling dweeb Adam Burnett was in the middle of the ring crying about everything that has happened to him. Crying about how he was being held down by management here, more specifically Seth Lerch, and how he deserved better. He even went as far as to call out Seth and demand a face to face confrontation. That is when Seth texted me that instead of a lame announcement that I was back in the middle of the ring, I was to have some fun and take some liberties with Adam Burnett.
Some might say that the move I made was selfish and those people would probably be right. I was being selfish. I wanted all of the people to see me and remember just what I was capable of. I wanted them to remember that I was better than all of them. That is why I went out there and ended Adam Burnett’s career. I Michael Oher’ed him. I made sure he was going to enter concussion protocol and he still hasn’t left it. They say that CTE has set in in his brain and he is never going to wrestle again. Do I feel bad about that? Well the old Kyle Kemp would say no and say that he knew the risks of being in the WCF. Hell people have died here. You put your livelihood on the line the second you sign that WCF contract. What I didn’t know was that by doing that to Adam Burnett, I was setting myself up for a jump up the card already. I had done Seth a favor and now he was going to do one for me. Kind of.
The week after my return I was placed into a tag team match with Mikey eXtreme against Teo Del Sol and Dion Necurat. Yes that Teo and yes the World Champion. Seth had appreciated what I had done for him but also was determined to see exactly how much I had left in the tank heading into that match. He wanted to see if I was still better like I claim to be. That is why he put me in the ring with those other two and Mikey was just there as a filler partner for me. It could have been anyone as my partner and the result would have been the same. Isn’t that right Mikey?
I will never forget walking up to you a couple hours before that match and telling you that we were going to have to find a way to make things work so we could take on Teo and Dion. You gave me this far off look of confusion and possibly drugs. Who knows? You’re that crazy that I wouldn’t put it past you. It was at that moment that I knew I was going to have to be the captain of this team. I was going to have to lead you to victory because you were not the Mikey eXtreme that we all once knew.
I’m not going to sit here and say that I am an expert on Mikey eXtreme. That would be so far from the truth that I couldn’t even fake my way through the questions people would ask me if I said such a thing. I just know that as I have made my way up the card, so have you. That is what makes us a good team. We both know how to get noticed and get opportunities to rise up the card. Just look at the opportunities we have gotten since we have become a tag team. We have been able to face Gravedigger and Jayson Price in the main event of Slam. We have been able to face Ethan King and Steven Singh. We have been able to take on all of Everest with some “help” from Teo Del Sol. It has been a fun ride doing all of those things with you Mikey but there is one thing that all of those experiences has in common. We lost. We didn’t just lose we got embarrassed. Why do you think that happened Mikey? It happened because of you.
The opportunities we have gotten and pissed away are just like the ones you have gotten in your singles career. This is no more evident than your failed runs as United States Champion. I remember when you took the title from Kaz Mazy. I wasn’t here yet but I was watching and hoping that I would get signed. I was scouting out the guys that would be threats and you were one of the people that I would assume would be World Champion during the first moments of my run here. I saw that much in you. However you didn’t see that in yourself. You let your ego get in the way and you lost the belt less than a month later. Now we have seen talented young wrestlers get that taste of being a champion and lose the belt quickly because they weren’t ready. I had assumed that is what happened with you and that you were going to make big moves once you picked up the belt again. That is what would make sense but then you lost the belt quickly again.
I know that you are going to say that you held the belt for a few months but those months were during the holidays. Everyone knows that nothing around here is that exciting during that time and that is when we get the most time off too. So put those circumstances together and we have a pretty poor showing by you Mikey. So as much as you want to toot your horn about how you are this former United States Champion, understand that you were a failure. Your unsuccessful reigns as champion were the beginning of the end for that belt and that is why you were so excited when I came back and we were placed together. I was someone that you could hitch your wagon too and get back to the top without being exposed. What you didn’t plan on was the fact that you are so bad that you can’t even be my right hand man correctly.
I know that that hurts Mikey but you need to hear it. You need to understand that if you and I are going to coexist during this match and after, you are going to have to do even less than you are doing right now. You are going to have to just let me do the work and I’ll let you have a smidge of the glory. I’m tired of you tagging in and ruining everything. Every time you get in the ring you need to remember who the number one guy is. That’s me. I’m your fucking meal ticket and you need to start treating me as such. That is why I propose this: you lay down on Sunday. You and I take out Teo and then you lay down. If you do this then I take us to the World Title. I take us to the promise land.
Face it Mikey. You are not World Title material. I am. I am the closest that you will ever get to being World Champion so why not help make it easier for me to get us there. Why not just lie down? That is the question that you have to ask yourself in the hours to come as we get closer to our match. It’s a great question because your life would get exponentially better. The money. The fame. The place at the top of the card. It would all be ours Mikey. All you have to do is lie down.
I want you to close your eyes Mikey and imagine us standing in the ring. Confetti is falling and the World Title is being put around my waist. You and I are waving to the crowd and they are cheering the both of us. It’s a proud moment and we are celebrating together. After that it’s the two of us making sure the World Title stays around our waists and we become the greatest tag team in the history of this company. We take the World Title. We take the Tag Team Titles. Hell maybe I’ll help you win the Internet Title or something like that before it’s all said and done. Just think about it. What do you have to lose? You don’t stand a chance of beating the winner of Ultimate Showdown but I do. I will beat whoever wins and I will make sure to take you along for the ride with me. All you have to do is lie down because if you don’t, your life is over.
Let me outline your life if you fight back and somehow cost me the shot at the World Title. I then make it my mission to end your career. Our little tag team dies and you go back to trying to figure out how to become as popular as you were when you were United States Champion except with one difference. You have me coming to work and kicking your ass every week until you quit or I end your career myself. I can tell you this though Mikey. I won’t end it quickly. I’ll make it slow and very painful. That is why you need to do the right thing and lay down. Help me become number one contender. You don’t have any options if you think about it. You can’t beat me and you are better off with me. Why? Because I’m Kyle Kemp and I’m better than you!
A Visit
The softness of a light breeze hits Kyle Kemp in the face as he walks through the gate to the cemetery where his mother is buried. Kemp is wearing the same outfit we saw him in before. He has the same bag with him as he came straight here from the airport. He couldn’t wait to see his mother’s grave and just have a second to talk to her. He knows she is listening and with such a big match coming up this Sunday, he has to take a second to talk to her. She has always been his number one fan.
Kemp is carrying a bouquet of daisies that he picked up on the way. They were his mother’s favorite. He gets to the tombstone and just bows his head and places the flowers at the base of the stone. He says a quick prayer and then lifts his head up and begins talking. “Hey Mom! It’s been to long. I know I haven’t stopped by in a couple weeks but I have been crazy busy ever since they announced this number one contender’s match at Ultimate Showdown! They’ve been having me go all over the country promoting it. You’d be so happy to see me doing everything that goes along with the match. You always told me that I had to be ready for an opportunity like this. It was because of you that I was. I want to thank you for that Mom.”
Kemp takes a second to take a breath and then continues on. “What’s even funnier is how much you would hate these guys mom. They each are everything that you despise in competitors. They aren’t talented and they both don’t have the balls to do whatever it takes to win. I will never forget you telling me to win by any means necessary. That is what I plan on doing on Sunday. I am going to win on Sunday and I’m going to do it for you. I am going to win for you Mom and I just want you to know that I’m going to do it in style. As a Kemp you said we are always entertaining and always winning. I will do both on Sunday and I’m going to make sure you are proud of me.”
It is at this moment that Kemp realizes that he is being watched. He turns his head and looks over to his right and sees a woman about fifty yards away looking at him. She is brunette, tan and has a runner’s figure. She is wearing a pink tank top with black yoga pants. She continues to stare at Kemp who stands up and starts to walk over to her. She quickly speed walks over to her car that is sitting just outside of the cemetery and pulls away. Kemp has picked up the pace but was to late. He stands and watches her drive away, wondering who the hell that was. Could she be the one that the TMZ reporter spoke about earlier?
You’re a Fraud
Teo Del Sol and Kyle Kemp. Two men that have been mired into an ongoing rivalry that neither man really wants. That might seem weird as when you fight someone as many times as I have fought Teo, you would think there would be a connection. At least that is what you hear from so many past rivals in professional wrestling. How fighting so many times creates this bond that you cannot walk away from. Hell some of these rivals end up respecting each other and becoming friends. I have seen it so many times and it probably will go on well after I am gone. It sickens me to see Teo that way. We will never be friends. We will never be acquaintances. We won’t be growing close because something has happened with Teo and I. I haven’t gotten close to him or haven’t had a ounce of respect for him. No. I despise Teo more today than the day we had our first match.
Do you remember our first match Teo? I do. Many have forgotten that match because it took place on a random Slam that no one cared about. That match was a number one contenders match for the Television Title. The winner would go on to face Jonny Fly for the Television Title at Revenge two years ago. Does the stakes sound familiar? They should because they are similar stakes that we face on Sunday except the winner this time gets a World Title shot at Revenge. That match was the beginning of the disdain for you that I have because you didn’t just screw me out of that title shot but you stole my spotlight. And how did you do that? You won with sheer luck like most of your other matches. You beat me with a bullshit rollup. I had you beat and you rolled me up because that’s what you do. You have to use the tactics of an underdog in order to win because you aren’t a winner. You are a fraud! You make all these people think that you try hard and that by trying hard you are suddenly good. You aren’t good. Hell you aren’t even average. You have to use these tactics because you just don’t measure up! That night you stole not only my Television Title shot but you stole the rub that I should have gotten just a week later.
A week later you got to face Jonny Fly at Revenge and you miraculously beat him. I say miraculously with a smirk on my face because you didn’t beat Jonny Fly in his prime. You beat Jonny Fly in his old age when he didn’t care and he wasn’t in shape! I knew that. You knew that. Every wrestler in the back knew that. However the fans did not. They still had images of Jonny Fly in his prime and running roughshod over the WCF in their minds and they believed you were the next great one in this company based on that victory. That victory should’ve been mine! Instead I was forced to pull double duty at Revenge and team with Riddlebox in a worthless tag team match and fight in a match for the People’s Title against Spencer Adams. I only got that shot because I won a cheap vote to be his opponent. Some would be grateful about that but I wasn’t because even though I performed well in both of those matches and won the People’s Title, you were all people talked about the next day. They talked about the new up and coming wrestler in Teo Del Sol who was gonna bring pride and honor to the WCF. They didn’t talk about Kyle Kemp fighting in two matches and winning the People’s Championship which was an obvious better achievement than your charity match against a has been. No they all talked about you because you had a mask and you waved to the fans and you signed a bunch of autographs that now sell for .25 cents on ebay. I watched all of that happen and knew that I needed to do something else.
So I rolled with the punches after that and I joined #BeachKrew but you were still all that people talked about. What made it worse was that in the weeks after you decided to have a series of matches with Jared Holmes and that is where you were exposed. While it took a few matches due to unforeseen circumstances Jared turned out to be the only opponent you would ever have during your first Television Title reign. He would take the title from you a week before War and I would be on a roll as the People’s Champion. I was finally above you and people were talking about me. That is when you got a return match against Jared at War and you stole the Television Title in that damn rollup that you love to use. You showed why you are a fraud once again.
What made this worse was the fact that we continued to square off. It was at War that year where we came together and the eyes were on us. People wanted to see the People’s Champion and the supposed man of the people square off. Do you remember who came out on top Teo? That’s right...it was me. I eliminated you from War and I continued the roll from that straight into Hellimination where I eliminated you again. Two times in one month I eliminated you from two of the biggest events of the year. I showed you that I was better than you and you hated what you saw because you saw the truth. You saw that the only way you could beat me was through gimmicks and mystery because when it was fair and one on one, I owned you. I kept owning you and it haunted you Teo but for some reason you got one more shot at me. You were granted a match against me at XIII. A decision that I still scratch my head about to this day but I didn’t fight it to hard because this was my opportunity to end you once and for all. However things did not go according to plan.
It was there where you did what you always do. You hit me with a small package rollup and stole my People’s Title. You fucking stole it and I hate you for it. I hated that you couldn’t beat me the fair way. You couldn’t beat me one on one without using a trick to surprise me. Every time I beat you I did it by standing toe to toe and shoving my foot into your face. That frustration caused me to come after you in a way that I have never done before and haven’t since.
What you don’t understand Teo is that you bring out a side of me that is blinded with hate and anger. Ever since we debuted you have been considered a tad better than me just because you are a good guy. I know your fans might not believe that and I know that some of the other wrestlers might not believe that either but I know what you believe Teo. I know you know that I’m better than you. I saw it in your eyes for that month after XIII. I did everything to you. I beat one of your students to a bloody pulp and I threatened to burn the mask I ripped off his face. I beat you down. I did everything to take you out because I hated that people thought that way. I also used that anger to pick up the Tag Team Titles with Johnny Rabid during all of that. I know that pained you because you thought I would fall off the map after losing to you but I didn’t. I only got further under your skin. That is when you put me in the dumbest match possible. That stupid People’s Punishment match.
That match was supposed to be the last time we would ever face off. I was supposed to lose that match to you and then finally you thought I would be exposed to all of the fans. You thought I would get embarrassed and leave the WCF. It was your grand plan to get rid of Kyle Kemp at long last. You put fans all around that ring and they were able to help you beat me. I remember sitting in the locker room after that and vowing to get revenge on you but I also knew it would have to wait. We had two separate plans at that point. You were dedicated to being a great People’s Champion and I was aligned with #BeachKrew and a Tag Team Champion. Facing off again would have to wait.
You had hoped that the embarrassment of losing to you and the fans would make me leave the WCF forever. However it only made me stronger. After that match I would go on to make the finals of the Trilogy Cup and continue to hold the Tag Team Titles for quite a while. I did whatever it took to get to the top and I have been scratching and clawing up that mountain for quite some time. The only thing that paused that was my mom getting sick and being ravaged by cancer. I left the WCF for an extended amount of time to take care of her and say goodbye but now I am back and I’m here to continue my ascent to the top and look who is standing in the way once again. You Teo but this time I will leave no doubt which one of us is better than the other.
I have studied you for so long that I know each and every weakness you have. I know where you like to try to hit that roll up and I know how to stop your attempts at being a high flyer. I will finally get what I have wanted for so long and that is to beat you once and for all. To end your career. To prove to the fans that I am better than you.
I have said this countless times since I have come back Teo and I will say it to you directly. I’m not a bad guy. I’m not a good guy. I’m not the guy. I the better man. You have known that over the last two years and after I beat you and Mikey eXtreme on Sunday, you will have to say that about me to everyone you face from this point forward. Our paths may have been going down the same road over the last couple of years but this is finally where I go one way and you go the other. This is where I go up and you go down. This is your People’s Punishment matchup except unlike me, you are going to disappear. Hell you’ve done it countless times over the past couple years in the multiple times you’ve taken vacations and time off. You may make a triumphant comeback in a few months but the cheers will be less than before. Then that will bother you and you will leave and comeback again to even less cheers. That cycle will continue until you just don’t come back. Meanwhile I will be the World Champion. I will be on top of the WCF. I will have done that because I’m Kyle Kemp and I’m better than you!
