The Book of eXtreme:
CLOCKWORK
I
CLOCKWORK
I
The ultimate goal in wrestling is becoming the World Champion, and Mikey eXtreme could finally get his shot at that ultimate by winning his next match. Mikey’s third Ultimate Showdown marked the second time he was excluded from the champions only match, a match that he had been apart of his first year in the company. His match this year, however, was arguably just as important. His match this year was to determine who would step into that ring with the ultimate winner.
This year, Mikey was going to guarantee that he would have that shot at the ultimate prize.
For three long years, Mikey yearned for a shot at that championship. He always knew that he had more than what it took to be the best of the best. He had always thought of himself as the best competitor that the WCF had ever seen, and now he would show the world that he was what he said he was.
Mikey was not afraid, there was never any fear when it came to stepping into that ring and gaining a victory. Especially, a victory of this magnitude. Mikey had won big matches in the past, hell, he was the greatest United States champion of all time, if you asked him.
But, this was his biggest non-title match, there was no doubt about that. This was everything that Mikey had ever wanted since he stepped foot in the WCF. This was the ultimate goal, and this goal would be met with as much ease as everything else that Mikey had ever achieved in his WCF career.
The two men that opposed Mikey were guys that he knew fairly well. They had all come to the WCF at around the same time, enjoying minor success and capturing the eyes of many fans, and by Mikey’s account he had spent a third of his WCF tenure in matches with the two of them.
But, if there could only be one, Mikey would be the Highlander that beheads the rest. He would be the only one standing after it was all said and done. He would go on to become the Ultimate eXtreme, and defeat whoever was the unlucky winner of this year’s Ultimate Showdown.
Time Alone
Mikey sat alone, the room was bright but dark at the same time. It was as if the darkness was coming off Mikey’s skin, shrouding him in a way. He sat there, not moving, not speaking. His chest rose with every breath as he thought about the future. His future was about to be brighter than it had ever been before and he could not wait. He could feel it already, he knew that it was his time.
Mikey spoke, his voice was loud and boisterous, which would have scared anyone with the suddenness that he spoke.
Mikey eXtreme: It’s a shame, you know.
Mikey turned his head, capturing everyone’s attention through the camera that his eyes devoured.
Mikey eXtreme: All of these morons competing at Ultimate Showdown and for what? For the right to face the executioner? For the right to be humiliated in a match with the King of Darkness, the King of eXtreme, the FUTURE of the World is mine.
But, they don’t see it, no. They’re too focused on the present to look towards the future.
Or perhaps, the future was too dark to see. The Darkness had a way of hiding things from those who were not worthy, and those who were to be targeted next.
Mikey eXtreme: But, let them tear each other apart now. Let them destroy each other while I sit back and laugh. While I sit back and scout my next opponent. But, that’s fine, that’s just the way I like it.
Hell, an easy win for me, I’ll take it.
Mikey was already counting on winning his match against Blaze and Kemp, that he was already looking to the future. This was something he was allowed to do because his confidence in winning this match was higher than high. There was no doubt in his mind that he was going to leave Richmond, Virginia the number one contender for the World Championship.
There was no chance that he would lose.
Mikey eXtreme: Some may say I’m cocky, that I’m discrediting the abilities of my opponents at Showdown. Well, that’s exactly what I’m doing, because I know what I’m bringing to the table and there is nobody alive.. Or dead, that can match what I’m bringing to this war.
And, come Showdown, when I release my true abilities onto the WCF Galaxy, the world will realize that it’s just a matter of time before that belt is added to my collection. That it’s only a short while until that belt is wrapped around the waist of the true KING of the WCF, the KING of Darkness, the KING of eXtreme.
Mikey turns his head away from the camera, but he continues to talk, almost ignoring the viewers because Mikey did not care about their reaction nor did he respect them.
Mikey eXtreme: The world needs to understand one thing, I’m not someone to take lightly. I destroy and take out each and everything that gets placed in front of me and I do it with ease. I don’t take no prisoners, I execute on the battlefield. I’ve beaten some of the biggest and best names that this federation has ever seen and I will continue to do so. I will continue to maim the roster at will.
Mikey pauses, and then continues.
Mikey eXtreme: Mikey eXtreme will not be the number one contender for the world championship after Ultimate Showdown. No, after the execution that I deliver, the winner of the Ultimate Showdown will just forfeit me the belt. They will run and go into hiding to avoid the onslaught that I will be bringing them.
Teo.. Teddy… Kyle..
Prepare yourselves for the end of times, because I promise this will be an all out war.
Mikey stops speaking as the scene fades to black.
II
Mikey and Teo Del Sol, or Teddy Blaze as he was sometimes known as, had stepped in the ring together on a few different occasions and Mikey had walked out victorious in most of those meetings.
Why would Teo think things would be different now? Surely, he had to accept by now that he was not on the same level as the King of Darkness, right? But, in this match it wasn’t as though Mikey had to actually be beaten in order to lose. Hell, Teo could pin Kyle Kemp and walk out with the victory, one that he had not earned but would be awarded. This was something that Mikey had to keep in the back of his mind, even though he was confident that he would walk out with the victory.
But, he sat there, in the dark, blindly talking into a WCF camera.
Mikey eXtreme: Another battle with Teo Del Sol, huh? Another way for me tto show the world how easy it is for me to destroy Teo? Another easy win the King of Darkness, Teo.
Why is it that you think you stand a chance now? After all these matches we’ve had that I’ve utterly dominated you in every way, you sit there and think that now you have a shot to beat me? That now the stars have aligned and you have finally figured out what you were missing in those other matches?
Well, Teo, I’ll tell you what you were missing. You were missing the ability. You can’t beat me because you’re not able to. You can’t keep up with me in that ring, you can’t out wrestle me, you can’t do anything better than I can.
But, you can get those teeth kicked down your throat.
Mikey’s Brooklyn accent was getting stronger and stronger as he spoke.
Mikey eXtreme: And believe me, Teo, I’m coming to Richmond, Virginia to kick those teeth right down your throat. I’m coming to Ultimate Showdown to give the Ultimate beating that the WCF has ever seen.
You won’t last long in that ring, Teo, this is something I can promise you wholeheartedly. I know for a fact that you will be the weak link that gets taken out first, I just have to make sure that Kyle does not take advantage of this and take the victory for himself. I have to make sure that once we’re done with you, that we focus on each other to determine who is better.
You’re not on that level, Teo, and deep down I think that you know that. I think, No, I know, that you’re scared to death of this match. You spent an entire WCF tenure holding meaningless championships and now you finally have a shot to fight for that World Championship.. And you know that you can’t win.
You know that you will finally be exposed as the fraud that you are, Teo. You’re afraid that the world will see you fall to my feet, again, the only difference this time is that the stakes are so high. The WORLD could be on the line here, a world that I will reign over as the rightful KING.
But you, Teo? After you lose this match you’ll fall back down and drift away until the world has forgotten your name. You’ll look back to this day, the day that could have made you into the star that you’ve always wanted to be, and you’ll regret putting it all on the line with the likes of Mikey eXreme. You’ll ask yourself, why? Why would you step into the Kingdom of eXtreme? Why would you try to beat the greatest competitor that the WCF had ever seen?
And that’s why you’re scared, Teo. Scared of the sad but true future that you’re about to live.
Teo had every right to be scared, this was a huge match and Mikey should be afraid for the same reasons, but he’s not right in the head.
Mikey eXtreme: A future that I’m about to deliver to you, personally, Teo. A future that you will always blame on me, and that’s okay. I’m fine with taking blame for the mediocre future of Teo del Sol. I’m fine with taking blame for the future that you know you were always destined to have.
Because, while you rot down there where you belong, I’ll be reigning supreme at the top. I’ll be sitting atop the mountain while you’re digging ditches to get even lower.. And I won’t stop you, Teo. I won’t stop you from finally arriving to where you belong.
But, what I will do, is speed the process up. I will eXecute you, Teo. I will eXtinguish the flame that burns deep inside of you. I will take the passion you have for this business, and I will break you. I will ruin everything for you, because that’s what I do best.
Just like I did for Bernard Core.. just like I did to Vengeance.. And just like I did to Chelsea Armstrong.
I took this from them and made them regret it all. I made them go away because they also realized they were not better than I am. But now, Teo, it’s time for you to be added to the list. It’s time for you to meet your doom at the end of the line. It’s time for you to be ‘X’d out.
Mikey laughed.
Mikey eXtreme: But, perhaps you’re not as smart as I’m giving you credit for, Teo. Perhaps you really think that stand a chance in this match. Perhaps you have actually lost your mind and you think that you will get to challenge the world champion.
Are you that dumb, Teo?
I really hope not.
Your time is over now, Teo..
Tick.. tock..
Tick…
tock..
The scene fades.
FREAK
Freakshow, a man of very few words, stood in the doorway of the run down shack that he had stumbled upon in the woods. This was something that Freakshow did in just about every city or town that the group visited, he would stake out places where he could do “business.” His business made no money, but it was something that he had to do, something that he felt deep down inside. Something that, in a way, controlled him more than anything.
That was the Darkness, he thought as he looked into the empty abyss of the shack. There were two or three rooms, which was more than enough for what he had needed it for. One room would have been fine, but, three would work just the same.
His eyes bounced around, looking at ways he could improve the rooms for his forms of torture, but they also looked for any sign of recent activity. The last thing that Freakshow needed was for someone to come and stumble upon his “business,” before it was complete, at least. Room by room, Freakshow poured over each and every detail he could find. But, the shack was empty. There was no sign of any kind of activity here for a long time.
But, could that be a bad sign? Perhaps someone visits frequently and cleans up after themselves, but perhaps not. This was a gamble that Freakshow would have to take. He had wandered the Virginia countryside all day looking for the best possible place to do his business, and this was the best place he found.
There had been a small cabin earlier in the day, but fresh tire tracks behind the back had told Freakshow that that cabin was actively used and that somebody could foil his plans at any moment in time. Freakshow did not like those odds, but this place looked much better. This place looked run down enough, but yet still healthy enough for the building to stand on it’s own.
Yes, this was the place alright. This was the perfect place for Freakshow to carry out his torture, and he would find the perfect victim. He would find the perfect woman to bound in the backroom. The perfect playtoy for his sick fantasies.
She would never be seen or heard from again, whoever he found.
III
Hank Brown was the interview extraordinaire of the WCF, he was always putting himself in danger to get the hot scoop, and ask the tough questions. This was especially true in the case of Mikey eXtreme, who on more than one occasion took things a little far. Today was no different for Hank, he had a job to do and he had to ask Mikey some questions about his chemistry with one of his opponents in the upcoming match.
Hank sat across from Mikey eXtreme, they were in a 20/20 type setup. Mikey on one side, a small table just in front of them. Hell, Mikey swore that Hank was even dressed as Barbara Walters, but upon further review, he was not.
Hank Brown: Ladies and Gentleman of the WCF Galaxy, I’m Hank Brown and I’m here today with Mikey eXtreme.
Mikey looks into the camera, somewhat acknowledging the audience.
Hank Brown: Mikey has a eXtremely important match coming up.
Hank pauses, hoping Mikey picks up on the pun he just made but Mikey doesn’t care.
Hank Brown: This week, at Ultimate Showdown, Mikey eXtreme will step in the ring with Teo Del Sol and Kyle Kemp in hopes to earn the title of number one contender for the biggest championship in e-wrestling, the WCF World Championship.
But, this is no small feat, these are three very hungry individuals going up for a shot at this belt, and Mikey will have his hands full.
Mikey snarls.
Hank Brown: But, this match has some particularly strange chemistry. Mikey eXtreme and Kyle Kemp are currently lighting up the WCF as a tag team. They’ve actually been on the same page in all of their matches, something that the WCF Galaxy did not see coming.
Mikey laughs.
Hank Brown: But, will that chemistry help or hinder your chance at winning this match?
Hank poised the question to Mikey, hoping to get some kind of heated response.
Mikey eXtreme: Hinder? Are you serious, Hank? Do you honestly think there is anything that can hinder my chances at winning this match, and eventually that strap that I undeniably deserve?
Are you kidding me?
Mikey scoffs off the notion.
Hank Brown: But, will this match lead to tension between the two of you?
Mikey eXtreme: We’re grown me, Hank. We know whats at stake, we know whats on the line in this match. It doesn’t matter what happens, we’re the hottest tag team in the WCF right now AND we’ll hold the World Championship in a short period of time.
So, to answer your question, No. This match won’t hurt us in any way shape or form. We go in with one thing on our minds, and that’s becoming the World Champion. Anything can happen in this match, but the end goal is the same. Walk out one step closer to that strap. Walk out the number one contender for the WCF World Championship.
Do you think that’s tension?
Sure, we both want the same thing. But, we’re man enough to accept the result of this match. We’re man enough to accept WHO is the better competitor, but that’s only after we utterly destroy Teo Del Sol. It’s only then that we can test each other once again.
It’s only then that we do battle in that ring.
Hank Brown: But, aren’t you friends?
Mikey eXtreme: There are no friends in that ring, Hank. Once that bell rings, it doesn’t matter who’s in there. Once that bell rings, it’s go time. It’s time to show the world what we’ve got, and who is the best.
And who is the best?
The KING of eXtreme. The KING of Darkness. The AMERICAN KING.
Mikey eXtreme.
Mikey rises to his feet as if the interview has ended when Hank Brown begins to ask another question.
Hank Brown: So, there will be no ill will towards Kyle Kemp if he becomes the number one contender?
Mikey laughs. The thought of anyone besides himself winning this match was hysterical to him. The fact that Hank had the balls to ask that question almost shocks Mikey, but at the same time infuriates him beyond control. He leaps towards Hank, his hands grasping at his throat. Mikey squeezes and fight’s off Hank’s defenses, listening to him fight for his breath. His thumbs pressing harder, his hands getting tighter.
Hank can see his life flashing before his eyes, but suddenly Mikey lets go and throws Hank to the floor.
Mikey eXtreme: No. No ill will, Hank.
Mikey begins to laugh. There would be no ill will, as long as Mikey laid it all out in the ring and left it all out there, there would be no ill will. As long as Mikey brought his A-Game, it didn’t matter the end result. Sure he wanted to win, sure, he NEEDED to win, but he can understand and accept loss.
Sometimes, the loss makes you better.
But this wasn’t the time to get better, Mikey had to be the best in order to gain that World Championship opportunity, and he would seize that opportunity if it was the last thing he did.
SHOW
The abandoned shack in the middle of the woods had seen better days, the roof was in shambles, the windows broken, but the door was still standing. The walls, weak, but healthy enough to endure the onslaught that was about to happen inside them.
Freakshow had managed to do some alterations inside the shack. He had virtually closed off the back room, sealing it from the ground up with wooden planks. There would be no noise that would escape, and there would be no doors to escape through, either. Freakshow would do what had to be done to ensure that nobody would escape the hell that he had created.
Her name was Amanda. Before today, her biggest scare was a minor fender bender when she rear ended a car that had stopped short ahead of her. Until today, that was the scariest day of her life. Until today, the last day of her life.
As she lay there, her hands bound behind her back, and her feet bound and cuffed to stake that rose from the ground in the corner of the room. Memories began to fill her head. The faces of her parents, her pet poodle Skippy, her friends. She was young, twenty or so, maybe nineteen. She still had plenty of life left in her, that was until she stumbled into Freakshow as she left the Bow Tie Cinemas.
Would things be different if s he wasn’t nose deep in her phone, trying to set up plans for later on that night? Had she seen Freakshow and avoided him, and not literally walked right into him, would things be different? And, why did she have to see Despicable Me 3 alone? Why had she been so embarrassed to see the movie with others that she had to go alone?
Perhaps, if she were part of a group it would have made her more difficult to become a target. Traveling alone was something that her parents always warned her against. Who you going with, sweetie? her mom would ask her almost everytime she went out. You’re not going alone are you, darling? Her father would ask, with an over protective tone. He would never want anything to happen to his little girl, but here she was lying bound and gagged on the floor. Here she was, breathing her last breaths. Here she was before the hell would be unleashed.
This is the darkness, Freakshow thought as he slid his knife down the cold hard steel in his hand. His eyes making contact with hers with each and every stroke.
Freakshow: It’s better when it’s sharp, Amanda. Believe me, you want it as sharp as possible.
Freakshow grinned as the terror in her eyes grew.
Freakshow: It’s okay, darling.
Tears began to stream down her face. That was what her father called her, and to hear it come out of this sick bastard’s mouth was enough to crush her. It was enough to drain the life right out of her before Freakshow had the chance to do so himself, but sadly for her, that was not the case.
Freakshow: Don’t cry, I’m going to take care of you, I promise. You won’t even feel a thing, but I sure will. I’ll feel an ecstasy that you could only imagine. I’ll feel the ultimate rush, darling. I’ll feel something that you can only imagine.
Freakshow continued to call her darling because he knew that it hurt her. He had rummaged through her phone and picked up on the word when he texted her father that she had some errands to run and that she wouldn’t be home until late that night. He responded that he would be in bed by the time she got home and to enjoy the evening, darling.
A kiss emoji was all that followed.
It would be the last conversation he had with his daughter, and it wasn’t his daughter at all. It was a monster.
IV
Mikey sat in the dark room once more. His back against the wall, his head in his hands.
Mikey eXtreme: Kyle Kemp, my tag team partner. One half of the hottest tag team in the WCF today. Today we are brothers, but come Sunday, come Ultimate Showdown, once that bell rings and they are looking for the next challenger for the World Championship, you are nothing to me.
You hear that, Kyle?
Once that bell rings, I’ll fester into a different kind of animal. There’s no ill will, you can ask Hank Brown, I just want to let you know now. I just want you to know that the carnage that I am about to bring to you is in no way a sign of the end of things with us.
Once I defeat you, once I defeat Teo, I’ll become the true number one contender for the World Championship, and then, I’ll win that belt. That strap will be wrapped around my waist, and I’ll bring it back to the darkness, where it belongs.
But, that will only strengthen our tag team, Kyle. We’ll be the hottest tag team in wrestling and we’ll control the WORLD, Kyle. We’ll be the scariest thing in wrestling. Who will be able to stop us then? Nobody. The WORLD will be mine and because of that, you will prosper. I promise.
But once that bell rings, Kyle. It’s over for you in that ring. It’s over you in that match. Once that bell rings, I will be aiming for your head. I will be aiming for Teo’s head, but you know you’re the bigger threat in this match, I mean, you are “better.” Right?
Well, not better than I am, Kyle.
That’s something you’ll never be able to do. You’ll never be better than me, Kyle. You never were, and you never will be.
Mikey and Kyle had shared the ring many times, but never in any kind of one on one match. They were always tag team matches, or as the fans would sometimes call them, “clusterfucks.” They mostly ended with no contests, but there were a few that ended with Mikey eXtreme’s team picking up the victory. Most notably, Mikey and Chelsea Armstrong had battled Kyle Kemp and Johnny Rabid to a no contest the week before Mikey brutally ended Chelsea’s career.
Mikey eXtreme: But, that’s not an insult, Kyle. It’s just the truth, the cold hard facts. You’ve been a great teammate, but there is nobody alive that can beat me in that ring when I’m on my A-Game. There will never be anyone that can beat me when I bring everything I have.
Do you think you’re any different from the rest?
The King of Death Match tournament just came and went, a tournament that I would have won this year had I not had to prepare for this match. A tournament that I should have won last year, had Corey Black not luckily landed atop of me after the ring exploded around us.
I’m the greatest United States champion in the history of Wrestling, Kyle.
My accomplishments speak for themselves, I don’t need to remind you of everything I’ve done in this company, or the names that I’ve beat. But, I will.
Mikey laughs.
Mikey eXtreme: You name them, and I’ve probably beat them at one point or another. Or at the very least, I’ve brought them to places that they’ve never been before. I’ve brought them to the brink of their sanity, just like I’ll do with you, Kyle.
This is the first time, to my knowledge at least, that we’ve stepped in that ring with nobody by oursides, nobody else to run to, nowhere to hide.. Just me and you.. Well, Teo’s corpse will be lying around there somewhere, but, just the two of us.
And only one will walk out with the victory, and it will be me. I am the greatest competitor in this match, and there is nothing that can be done about that. You might claim to be better than everyone. You might even think that’s true, and I’ll let you think that.. But if you think that even fr a second that I will let you win this match?
You’re insane.
This is my match, Kyle. You will not beat me, and I will not allow you to take the easy way out and pin Teo Del Sol. I will not allow you to steal this match from me like my United States Championship was stolen on two different occasions, or the way that Ethan King has stole every match that we’ve been involved in.
I will just not allow it.
I will become the WCF World Champion, Kyle, and there is nothing that you can do about it. You are NOT better than me, Kyle. You just don’t have it in you. You just can’t beat me. You can’t.
Mikey was never so sure of a victory in his career, he knew that he would out work Kyle, he knew that he would always be one step ahead of him. He knew that no matter what, he would put everything on the line to win this match. His body, his mind, his soul.. The Darkness would prevail.
Mikey eXtreme: Kyle, this will be a learning experience for you. Trust me, this loss will only make you better. It will help you find yourself and right your ship in the right direction.
Trust me Kyle, when I leave you in a puddle of your own blood, lying next to the lifeless corpse of Teo Del Sol, you will grow as a competitor, and our team will only get better, our team will only grow stronger..
Through the KING teaching you the only way he knows how.
Carnage.
Mikey laughs as the scene fades and the clock ticks away. Time was on Mikey's side, just as it always was.
