Shock and Awe
The cool air of a fan in the men’s locker room of the MetLife Stadium, the site of One, blows on Adam Burnett. It is moments after his match with Psychopomp and Burnett still can’t fathom how this night has shaken down. He closes his eyes and allows the air to hit his face, temporarily allowing him to forget about the hot dried sweat that clings to his body. A smile is plastered onto his face as he thinks back to the match.
Going in Burnett thought that he could take down Psychopomp but knew it was going to be a true test of his grit and determination. Psychopomp is no pushover and has been chasing the Alpha Title for a long time. The fact that this match was to name the number one contender to that Alpha Title only made things more exciting to Burnett. Win and he would get the first title shot of his career and that title shot would be coming a lot sooner than Burnett could have imagine. Lose and that title shot would not exist and he would be left to wonder where his place is on the roster. It was the biggest match he has had to date.
That’s not saying much with the fact that he has only had two matches but as long as it’s true, why not think of it that way? It only makes sense to motivate yourself even more and thinking that this is your biggest match does that for some people. Burnett is one of those people. For the longest time he had just wanted to wrestle in front of anyone and to get the chance to wrestle not only in front of a WCF crowd but at One in MetLife Stadium is a dream come true. That on top of a potential title shot made this a huge match.
That is where the smile comes in. Burnett is smiling because he went out there tonight and gave it his all and his all was good enough. While Psychopomp did not tap out, he did pass out in the AB which made Burnett the winner but that was just the start. He can still hear the people cheering for him as his hand was raised and the people were giving him high fives and shouting encouragement to him as he walked back up the aisle to the backstage area. Chills run down his spine as he opens his eyes. Burnett looks over at the TV that is in the locker room and sees the Alpha Title match on. He scoots his chair closer to get a better look.
Burnett watches the match and as the time goes by, he finds himself getting more and more into the match. He is no longer scouting opponents but he is watching as a fan. It still amazes him that the guys here can do the things that they do. Even more amazing is watching the match as the finish unfolds. Before you know it, Jason O’Neal is pinning Jayson Price in the middle of the ring and Burnett just stares at the TV intently. O’Neal is handed the Alpha Title and the camera focuses in on him as he raises the title. Burnett just stares and realizes that the one guy he probably didn’t want to win this match did just that.
His thoughts are interrupted by his phone going off and he looks down to see that it is a call from his mother. While some may be excited to answer this call, Burnett wants nothing to do with it. He presses the red button to decline the call on his iPhone 7. He scowls at his phone, knowing that he just ignored his mother. Some may call this ruthless but Burnett thinks that it’s just the right thing to do. Before he can get any farther Burnett is interrupted and told that he is needed to go make an appearance on the WCF YouTube channel by a man that knocks on the door. Burnett hops out of his chair, pushing the bad thoughts out of his mind as he walks out the door of the locker room.
Car Day Dreams
Johnson and Burnett had a great relationship once upon a time. Burnett can still remember when he walked into the Ruff Ryder’s gym for the first time. It was a late afternoon in June and he was so nervous. He didn’t know who to talk to and walked around the gym awkwardly, waiting for someone to approach him. At first no one did which made him even more nervous. If no one approached him that meant no one noticed him and the professional wrestling business is all about getting noticed. His heart was racing and finally was about to leave when Johnson approached him. He can remember the conversation like yesterday.
“Hey kid! What are you doing here?” Johnson asked him as he walked up to him.
Burnett sheepishly smiled at him. “I’m here to see about some training.”
Johnson looked him up and down and Burnett could tell that an opinion was being formed in his mind. The few seconds where he waited for Johnson to answer him felt like hours. Finally Johnson answered. “Well follow me then.”
Burnett’s trip down memory lane is interrupted quickly by a car honking at him as he spaced out at a red light. He shrugs the thoughts out of his mind as he drives off towards the airport.
First Tag Team Match!
Happy Holidays WCF nation! I hope you all are enjoying your time with your friends and families. This is the time of the year where we relax and reflect on the past year and look forward to the next. As I do just that I can’t help but be thankful for my 2016. I worked hard on the circuit all year in my home territories of Nebraska and Kansas and it paid off right at the end. I got the call that I had been waiting for and look at me now. I’m in the WCF! Not only that but my debut has gone smoothly. I’ve had two matches and I’ve had two wins. I don’t think you can ask for more than that at this point. I couldn’t be any more thankful to WCF management for believing in me and giving me these opportunities.
One of those opportunities was at One. To be honest I was just proud to be part of One. To go out there in a sold out MetLife Stadium and perform in front of all of the fans that had traveled from all across the world and the millions watching at home was a true pleasure. I know that many of these people spent their hard earned money and had used money on us entertaining them instead of other necessities. I knew that meant that I had to go out and leave it all in the ring and I did just that. I gave everything I had for all of those fans that spent weeks and weeks of paychecks just to see us wrestle and it paid off! I am now the number one contender to the Alpha Title.
That brings me to the things to look forward too for 2017. The number one thing to look forward too at this moment is my shot at the Alpha Title. The Alpha Title is a stepping stone for any new wrestler in this company and it should be the first goal of those guys as they come in. It definitely was my number one goal to compete for that title, I just didn't know that it would happen this fast. I expected to have to win a few more matches but I am definitely not complaining that I now have a shot at Jason O'Neal. I can't wait to get in the ring and see how I stack up with him. He is a worthy champion. He did just pin Jayson Price after all! I have only beaten other new comers and I know that I need to prove that I can do more than that.
The other thing I look forward too is putting on a show for all of you fans night in and night out during this year. I finally have the opportunity to allow everyone to see me work on a national stage and I can't wait to get things going. That will start this Sunday when Jason O'Neal and I team together and fight Rise and Diaboli. I can't wait to get in the ring with these two. It was only a few short weeks ago when I fought Diaboli in my debut match and I saw what he could do. While he was not the winner that day, I know he could easily be this time.
Some might say that O'Neal and I are the favorites going into this match but we cannot take that for granted. Just because we are champion and number one contender does not make us an unstoppable team. We have never teamed together and we have to go out there and perform. It will take some getting used to but I can't wait to see what we can do together. I know that I'm cutting things short tonight but I have to get my car back on the streets of Omaha.
For those of you that don't know, I'm driving tonight for New Years Eve and picking up my fans. I know everyone is drinking and shouldn't be driving so I want all of my fans to know that you can tweet me and I will pick you up and take you home! I want to make sure my fans are safe and the roads are safe so feel free to tweet me! Happy New Year everyone and I will see you all on Sunday for Slam!
