Anybody got any kickass local bands around that would possibly have stuff on Google Play I could check out? I'm sort of dying for new music.

Craving strange. Prob one of the best rock bands on Long Island.
Troop 47 as well, but they might not be your style.
They're both on Spotify.

I may as well contribute. Des Moines counts as local for me since - well, I dunno, I'll travel for a show.
Index Case is my favorite, top 5 all time. Augustagein is an incredible album. But it came out in 2010, and the followup is due this year. A series of unfortunate events caused them to lose their record deal. They put out one, self titled, in 2005. It is also awesome.
Dead Horse Trauma are the ones actually getting shit done, nationally touring constantly. Appear to have hookups in the industry. They're probably going to be at least semi-big.
These are really the only two I'm into right now. There's Apathy Syndrome which is basically a Slipknot ripoff band. From Des Moines. I'm annoyed on that principal alone. We used to have Destrophy who really did have it made. They got signed to Victory and everything. I think they put out two albums on Victory. I'm not entirely sure what happened but their singer is now the guitar player for Otep and she thinks he's the greatest musician ever. She's not wrong. He slaughters. Also he's gigantic, working out all the time, and super nice too. Abd he's a super talented producer. At one point I told him I hoped Victory didn't turn them into Atreyu. Second Victory album - not so good. Just like Atreyu. Haha. Oh well.

I will absolutely hit you up with some Canadian metal once I get home and can post links. Some of it will be local relative to me, but I'm gonna claim all of Canada as "local", due to the population difference.

You said local..for me local is a whole country to choose from so...
Daysend were a great band that broke up a few years back, they released three albums and all three are amazing.
Like Thieves are basically a band born from The Butterfly effect and three needles red breaking up, the singer clint boge was in all three and his vocal chops are fucking awesome....

Here's that Canadian metal I promised. Musical tastes are subjective, so included is a bunch of stuff I wouldn't ordinarily listen to, just in case it turns your crank. So, in no particular order, we have: Arise and Ruin A metalcore band from Guelph, Ontario, which is where I currently live. Antediluvian A black/death metal band who split their time between Guelph, Ontario, and Edmonton, Alberta. Mares of Thrace A two piece "band" originally out of Calgary, Alberta. Main vocalist rocks a custom-built guitar with pick-ups for both guitar and bass. Megiddo A blasphemous black metal band with plenty of mystique in Toronto's underground scene. Akitsa I'll level with you; it ain't often anglophones even acknowledge French-Canadians - we've got our own weird sort of polite racism - but Akitsa has been steadily compiling street cred since '99. Thrawsunblat A melodic/folk black metal band from Fredericton, New Brunswick. "Thrawsunblat" is - I shit you not - an anagram of "narwhal butts". That's not a joke or an observation, that's where their name comes from. Rage Nucléaire
Sacré bleu! Two French bands? According to one reviewer, "Rage Nucléaire play more-raw-than-a-motherfucker black metal caked with a thick layer of corrosive industrial scuzz. Seriously, the band sounds like those Motörhead-playing robots discovered Transilvanian Hunger, subsequently going apeshit and viciously killing their human masters as a result." All right, that's all I'm putting out there for now; I'm tired, and I think I might do that sleep thing now.

I could rustle up all kinds of metal, from across the globe if you'd like. I still can't guarantee you'll like anything I offer up, but at the very least, check out Raintime if you haven't already.
