The scene opens to the interior of the Dallas Wrestling Center, a local training facility for professional wrestlers. Most of the people in the centre are exercising, or talking to each other during a break. However, the ring seems to have drawn a few interested parties. Inside the ring stands two rookies, one of which is the newly signed WCF Wrestler Thomas Uriel Bates. The other wrestler in the ring is nearly dwarfed by Bates, even though he is an impressive size as well.
The two wrestlers shake hands before returning to their corner. A bell is rung and the two wrestlers move to the centre of the ring. They hook up, before Bates easily pushes the smaller wrestler to the corner. Bates lets go of the wrestler, but delivers a series of powerful punches to the ribs before stepping back to his own corner.
Crowd Member: Come on Bobby!
Clearly the local gym will cheer for their guy, Bobby. The other wrestler, named Bobby, now moves closer to Bates. They go to hook up, but Bobby kicks Bates in the gut. The kick barely registers, and Bates moves to the side. Bobby moves in with a strike, but Bates counters with a Pak Sao followed by a punch to the ribs. Bobby falls to the floor in pain, but slowly makes his way back up and to his corner. After a few moments, the two come back to the centre of the ring. The two lock up again, and Bates sends Bobby to the ring with a hard Irish whip. When Bobby bounces back, Bates delivers a powerful clothesline. Bates stands back up, picking up Bobby on the way. He sets Bobby up for a suplex, and delivers without hesitation. Bates stands back up, and waits for Bobby to recover. As Bobby slowly makes his way back up with the help of the ropes, Bates walks around the ring with his eyes fixed on Bobby. Bobby gets a second wind, and yells before rushing towards Bates at top speed. Bates wastes no time in lifting his large leg for a Big Boot, which sends Bobby back to the mat with a loud thud.
Several of the crowd rush into the ring, separating Bates from Bobby, who is motionless in the ring. An angry older man rushes to Bobby and checks on him quickly.
Angry Old Man: This has gone on too far, George, make sure he’s alright.
The old man rushes up to Bates wagging his finger in the big man’s face.
Angry Old Man: What the hell are you thinking? Don’t you know you’re supposed to take it easy here, we’re just training!
Bates looks confused, but stares the old man down.
Thomas Bates: Take it easy? How are you going to learn anything if you take it easy? How will you know how to properly respond to a punch, if you never get punched?
Now several others have come up and backed the old man. Mostly average wrestler types, no one truly standing out.
Angry Old Man: What? Do you have a problem with my training boy?
Bates steps closer to the old man, making the entire crowd back up slightly.
Thomas Bates: Training? All I’ve seen since I got here are people punching the air, doing a little bit of weight lifting, and expecting a pillow fight in the ring.
The old man gets furious, and throws his arm out, pointing to the front door.
Angry Old Man: Get the hell out of here! Get out of here before I throw you out!
At this moment all of the biggest guys step forward, but to their surprise Bates doesn’t step back. He simply steps forward, unafraid of the adage “strength in numbers”.
Thomas Bates: Let’s get something straight old man; ain’t nobody throwing me out of anywhere.
Bates looks at Bobby, who is barely sitting up with the help of others. Bates chuckles.
Angry Old Man: Jimmy, call the cops!
Bates laughs as he keeps his glare on the old man.
Thomas Bates: Keep your pillow fights, and your weak fighters. I clearly won’t get any real training here anyway.
Bates feigns an attack, but laughs when the crowd flinches. He continues laughing as he steps out of the ring, grabs his bag, and walks out the door. As he steps out the doors, Bates faces the camera and acknowledges it for the first time.
Thomas Bates: I didn’t come here to play things safe. I didn’t come here to dance around a ring with a bunch of guys in tights. I came here to wrestle, I came here to fight. This Sunday at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas I intend to prove it. I don’t even know what match they say they’re going to put me in, and I don’t even care at this point. I’m going to go down to that ring, and make a debut that everyone will remember. Singles match, tag team match, even a Battle Royal, it doesn’t matter to me. Put me up against anyone, your best all rounder, your technical wrestlers, high flyers, or whatever powerhouses you have with you now. I’ll face anyone, in any kind of match.
Bates looks back to the training center and chuckles.
Thomas Bates: You know, I may not have been in the ring yet, officially, but I’ll tell you this; I had the best training. My father taught me to fight, and to win. He didn’t play around, we didn’t punch shadows or bags, we punched each other. We felt what it was like to hit someone, and we felt what it was like to be hit. We spent every waking moment preparing for what was to come. My father passed down his experiences to me, and now it’s my turn to make more experiences. It’s my turn to continue his legacy and dominate in the ring.
Bates steps closer to the camera. The camera focuses on the intensity in his eyes.
Thomas Bates: I’m ready for whatever you got, so bring it on.
Thomas Bates turns his back and walks down the sidewalk, walking into the distance as a male reporter in a brown business suit and red tie steps in front of the camera.
Reporter: What was supposed to be a simple video of a training session with the newly signed WCF star Thomas Bates has turned into a message to the entire Wrestling Championship Federation. Thomas Uriel Bates is a man who will face anyone, at any time, and in any way. From the looks of today, he will cut down anyone in his path.
The reporter turns to watch Thomas Bates in the distance, as an ambulance pulls to the front of the training center. The camera fades as two paramedics rush into the building with a stretcher.
