[Segment 1 - The Eyes Of Evil - Off Camera]
I looked down as Jayden swiped everything off of a random counter top inside of the Zenith High Command. It was directly after our match at Aftermath and Corbin was nowhere to be found. He cost us a huge victory against Sequitus tonight. Jayden had been more upset by Corbin no showing than I had and he was letting it show. I had never seen him so bent out of shape before and when he turned and looked at me, I could tell something was about to go down.
Jayden Thunder: Where the hell was Corbin tonight? He left us high and dry out there!
Colin Marshall: I don’t know man…I thought he was going to be here tonight…
I didn’t know what else to say. Corbin was supposed to be with us, but he did leave us hanging. No call or anything. Before I could say anything else, Jayden had already turned his anger towards someone else.
Jayden Thunder: And you! Why the fuck did you just sit there and do nothing?! What the fuck do I pay you for anyways?!
Kaden looked genuinely frightened. There was nothing he could do for us tonight without us getting disqualified. This was not his fault.
Kaden Black: I’m sorry boss…there was nothing I could do…
Jayden Thunder: You could have done fucking anything instead of sitting on your fucking ass to make a quick buck!!!
I could tell this was getting out of hand, but before I could intervene, Jayden jumped and grabbed Kaden by the head and smashed his face in to the concrete floor below. I heard bones and cartilage snap as they hit the ground. Kaden lay on the ground in pain, nearly unconscious, as Jayden rose to his feet and headed towards the door. He walked right up to me.
Colin Marshall: Dude…Jayden, what the fuck!
He brushed right past me, nudging my shoulder as he did.
?: Colin, stand for something.
It was like something snapped in my head, with some secret passenger egging me on. I turned out the door and followed Jayden down the hallway.
Colin Marshall: Hey! Hey Jayden!
He turned around and his gaze caught mine. I was staring in to the eyes of evil.
Colin Marshall: What the fuck was that back there? You could have killed him!
Jayden looked unfazed by the remark. His gaze continued to pierce mine. He sneered and turned away again.
Colin Marshall: Hey motherfucker, I’m talking to you!
I grabbed him by the arm and my face exploded in pain. He had sucker punched me as he turned around, knocking me down to the ground. I could feel my nose bleeding, but it didn’t feel broken. I spit some blood out of my mouth and looked at Jayden.
?: Stand up for yourself!
Colin Marshall: You son of a bitch…
I charged at Jayden and tackled him in to the wall, sending us both careening to the floor. I was now on top of him, laying punch after punch to his face. As I was bringing my fist down for another solid punch, he brought his hand up and clocked me in the face. I bounced off the wall and off of Jayden. He was on his feet as fast as lightning and he kicked me in the gut. I winced in pain and held my abdomen where he kicked me. I put my hand against the wall and tried to pull myself to my feet.
Jayden Thunder: How does this feel?
Jayden landed another thunderous blow to my head, knocking me off my knees and to the ground.
Jayden Thunder: Not so tough now Colin? You’re getting back to your feet now?
I was pulling myself back to my feet as he went for another swing. This time I moved my head out of the way and his hand missed by an inch. I swung my fist up in to his abdomen, doubling him over. He held his stomach as I brought my fist up again to his face, knocking him backwards.
Security: Hey! What the hell are you two doing?
I felt a pair of large meaty hands pull me to my feet and push me against the wall. I laid my face against the it, unable to continue fighting. It all of the sudden hit me that I was fighting a man I considered my friend no more than an hour ago. I spit some more blood out against the wall and watched it trickle down the wall. The security guard helped lift me on to what I assumed to be a stretcher as I blacked out…
[Segment 2 - At Least I Can Say - Off Camera]
?: How did it feel Colin? To finally take action for once in your life. You go on and on about what you deserve, but you never actually had the stones to go out and take it.
I was in the same setting as before. The woody dream world…the point between asleep and awake. I turned my head, but found it difficult to do so. I was sprawled out on the forest floor, with the same man standing over me from before. His face seemed more crisp this time. He seemed more alive.
?: You finally stood up for something Colin…someone, actually. Kaden Black may be lying face down in a pool of his own blood, but Jayden won’t forget that beating for a long…long, time. He had it coming anyways with an ego that huge.
I tried to sit up, but the pain in my stomach was too intense.
?: Stay down Colin…you’ve been through enough tonight.
Colin Marshall: Who are you?
?: Well…what do you want my name to be? This is all you, you know.
Colin Marshall: Maybe a better question is…what are you?
?: What am I? I’m so many things Colin….but the word you would use is your subconscious. I’m you…but a different part of you. I’m the part you don’t normally see. The other side of Colin Marshall.
I strained my mind, trying to process everything that he had said. I couldn’t believe him, considering none of this felt real.
?: Quit trying so hard Colin…You don’t need to worry here. I can answer any question you have so you don’t have to look so deep.
He smiled at me…something very reassuring about it. I still couldn’t tell if he was trying to harm me. I just didn’t know.
Colin Marshall: Any question?
?: Any question, Colin.
Colin Marshall: Ok…why am I here?
He bit his lip and chuckled slightly.
?: Damn…ha ha, I guess not every question. That one is up to you to decide. Why are you here Colin? You’re the one that created me you know? I came in to existence by you splitting your mind in to two. You’re conscious mind and your subconscious mind. You achieved something magnificently extraordinary by doing this, so it’s up to you to find out why.
I took it in. It made sense to me…but I guess it was me explaining it to myself. I little comfort in the fact.
Colin Marshall: Ok…here’s one. Am I going crazy?
He laughed a little.
?: On the contrary, Colin…you’re mind is working on a level it never has before. I can tell you how you’re really feeling about anything.
Colin Marshall: Well, what about my current situation? With Jayden and Corbin? With Zenith?
?: I can tell you that it is not your true path. You want something greater than that. You’re destined for so much more. Being with Zenith would not have brought you true happiness, regardless of where you ended up. Those were two of the shiniest egos I have ever seen on another human being. They would only have dragged you down and you knew it all along. You have what it takes to be greater than them and an ego doesn’t look good on you. I know how you act when those cameras are rolling Colin and it’s not you. The way you talk to these people on those Twitter boards…it’s not you. You allowed yourself to get too close to Jayden and Corbin and they let you down. You’re the kind of guy who likes to surround himself with people just so you don’t have to feel alone. But I’ll tell you…it’s better to be alone than with those who only exist to drag you down in to the muck of humanity.
As he said it, I knew it to be true. That wasn’t me. I had been going out and seeking fights wherever I could get them. Sure, it landed me a solid victory over Terry Roberts in my debut…but that didn’t last. And it didn’t matter. I let my ego get the best of me and that’s what caused me to lose to Marina…well, that and…
?: The rabbit?
I turned to him and stared him dead in the eye. This haunting memory…ringing loud and clear.
?: I know about the rabbit, Colin. But I don’t think now is a good time. We have a long journey before we get to that…You have to go now Colin, but don’t fret. All in good time. All in good time.
The same jerking feeling lifted me from the ground and removed me from the dream world.
[Segment 3 - Zenith Imploding - Off Camera]
Patrick McCoy: Whoa! Whoa! Take it easy man! I’m here.
I calmed down and finally opened my eyes to reveal Patrick standing over me. He smiled and chuckled a little bit.
Patrick McCoy: Dude…you got the shit kicked out of you.
I couldn’t help but laugh too. Even through the pain, I was just happy that my friend was here.
Colin Marshall: You came man?…
Patrick McCoy: That’s what she said.
I laughed and socked him in the arm, but brought my hand quickly to my abdomen. Pain seared through it and a tear rolled down my eye.
Colin Marshall: Ahhh…what’s the damage Patrick?
Patrick McCoy: You have a few bruised ribs and a couple of broken fingers…but you should be cleared for your match on Sunday…
I know this week was the start up of the Trio Cup Tournament and I would have to once again step in to the ring with the man responsible for putting me in this hospital bed.
Colin Marshall: How is that mother fucker Jayden?
Patrick McCoy: Nothing really, aside from a few broken fingers. Maybe a deflated ego…but they did take him to a separate hospital though. Didn’t want any drama when you two woke up.
Colin Marshall: That’s probably a good thing. If he was here right now…I don’t really know what I would do. I didn’t ever want it to come to this. I can’t believe that happened…I mean, he always seemed so chill.
Patrick McCoy: What happened anyways? Why were you guys fighting?
I recalled the story, from losing to Sequitus to Kaden to the fight in the hallway. Patrick listened in earnest, then gave me his opinion.
Patrick McCoy: Don’t let him get to you man. Guys fucked in the head anyways. Always has been, always will be. He just uses people to get what he wants. He didn’t get want he wanted from Kaden so he broke his face against the floor. Fucking psychopath. Consider yourself lucky if this is all that happened to you.
Colin Marshall: I’m not afraid of him or anything…
Patrick McCoy: I know man. And trust me…guys like that, they always get what they deserve in the end.
