[Segment 1 – Disappointments – Off Camera]
The red eyes…snarl. It was all I could do not to lash out, but I plunged for the attack.
Jayden Thunder: Colin, you need to calm down!
Striking the side of Jayden’s newest idea for transportation, the tour bus aptly named the Thunder Express, was probably not covered by the insurance. Either way, it did more damage to my hand as I grabbed my fist in pain and looked in the direction of the ground.
Corbin Stein: Look, Colin…We identify with your loss. You can’t let every single one get to you. That’s a treacherous game.
Jayden Thunder: Yeah man, you need to get your head screwed on straight before Sunday. We’ll split up for a little bit and then meet back in Toronto a couple of days before Aftermath.
Corbin Stein: Yes, we’ll all head home, procure our respites, and then come back prepared to focus.
I knew they were just trying to help…but they didn’t really know what was getting to me. Ever since that night in Vancouver, I hadn’t felt the same. It impinged on me in the ring and caused me to slip up against Marina Valdivia in what could have been one of the most important matches of my career. Instead, Marina put me down and now she’ll be participating in the TV Title match at Aftermath.
Jayden Thunder: We know it’s going to take some time to get over it. Just take a few days at home and when you’re ready…we’ll have a nice locker room waiting for us in Toronto and a promo to film.
We all said goodbye differently, then went our separate ways. Jayden and Corbin have been pretty good friends to me since we began training together…but I hadn’t talked to Patrick since that night in Vancouver. He kept asking me to tell him what happened, but I wasn’t able to answer his question. The next day I woke up, his stuff was gone and he didn’t even come to my show. I didn’t know what to do to make him believe me that I had no idea what happened.
What happened with the rabbit?
And I couldn’t shake a particular darkness looming over me. I didn’t know where the feeling was coming from. What made it worse was I did not know if it would ever go away.
Away with the rabbit, Colin.
[Segment 2 – This Unbelievable Mess – Off Camera]
?: It would be your first instinct to ignore the blatantly obvious, Colin.
My eyes shot open and I found my self in unrecognized surroundings. I was standing in a coastal forest, in a plain surrounded by trees greening from the fresh spring. The light was dim coming through the leaves overhead, but still the patch was illuminated. Everything still seemed…wrong.
? : You stand idly by, fearing the unknown instead of racing, head on, to tackle it. You amuse me, Colin, and for good reason.
I looked around to find the speaker, but the voice seemed to permeate from all around me. It imbued the void and became the air that filled my lungs. The voice both soothed and frightened me. I froze, unable to move.
A man stepped out from behind a pine. He was dressed in a pair of black slacks, black dress shoes, a button down black shirt, and a large black overcoat. His hairline receded halfway up his head and the rest was trimmed in to a neat buzz. A smile cracked on his pervasive lips, somehow getting inside my head before he even spoke.
? : Did you not once, in your infinite quest for strength, knowledge, love, sex, and glory, stop to pay heed to me? You prattle on through life, pursued by your deepest, darkest fears.
Colin Marshall: Who…who are you?
? : You know who I am, Colin. I am everything, nothing, and the spaces in between. I am a shining light in the infinite void of your psyche. I can be what you want Colin, but appear in a form more appropriate for you.
My eyes pierced his, trying to arrange him in a sea of unknown faces.
? : You don’t recognize me…do you? I’m a manifestation of your memory…but one that may lie underneath. I’m the king of lizards, Colin; A master of disguises. We will delve deeper, in time, but for now…
I felt something hook me from behind my navel and pull me out of that dark, dream world.
?: I know about the rabbit...
I awoke and found myself lying in my bed at home.
Colin Marshall: WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH ME!!!
My chest felt weak against my incredibly tense extremities. The outburst took all the energy I had left as I quickly slipped back in to my slumber.
[Segment 3 – Aftermath of Zenith – On Camera]
(The scene opens on Jayden, Colin, and Kaden standing in front of their logo in the Zenith High Command)
Jayden Thunder: We sit, watch, and listen to the approaching sounds of the storm. As watchers in the wings, we wait for the inevitable. Last week, we introduced you to Zenith. Now this week, you’ll find out just how far we’re willing to go. We believe in our Zenith. We don’t believe in some phony god, or just exist to exist. We know we have a higher calling in life and we aim to take it. And it would appear, on our quest, that we have managed to obtain some detractors. It is to be expected. Everyone will hate the new talent that they are forced to watch overtake their throne. We also know that to get to the top, it requires baby steps.
(Jayden steps aside as Colin comes forward)
Colin Marshall: Let’s talk about a few of the disbelievers. Our opponents at Aftermath this weekend; Sequitus and The Legion.
(Colin moves his head in a circular motion, popping his neck and shoulders)
Colin Marshall: First of all…Caliban, the unquestioned leader of Sequitus. Who in the hell gave this spoiled little shit a microphone? I didn’t know we had five year old throwing tantrums over every little thing imaginable. I mean, are you a wrestler or a fucking child? Former Internet Champion? You’re just as deluded as ZMAC if you think that belt held any kind of prestige for you.
Jayden Thunder: Caliban, you perceive this world as an injustice to you. You don’t know that you are the injustice. You spit this vile nonsense of how much you deserve this and that. You’re just a baby with muscles, Caliban, a kid who bought himself a set of dumbbells with his first McDonald’s paycheck, and from that point on, thought entirely too much of himself. You want to know why you’ll never be a top competitor in the WCF Caliban? Well, you’ll find out this weekend.
(Colin once again steps up to the plate)
Colin Marshall: Next up…“The Vine” Brent Alpine, “The man who cheated death”. The only thing you cheated, Alpine, was yourself. You could have had everything, but you allied yourself with an aimless leader. Caliban has no idea what he wants and he’s dragging you down that same decrepit path. Once Aftermath is over, and the dust is clear, maybe then you will realize just how true these words ring.
Jayden Thunder: On January twenty sixth at Payback, you defeated Denise D’Evil, Mod Deuce, and me in a stunning victory. You’re probably counting on the same thing to happen this weekend at Aftermath…but I wouldn’t hold your breath. You have no idea what a strong team at full power is capable of. I’m telling you to listen to Colin. Caliban is like a bike without wheels. Sure, you can latch on to it, but it will never be capable of taking you anywhere.
Colin Marshall: And Cormack MacNiell, another great fighter who hitched his wagon to a lame horse. Weren’t you in contention for championships before joining Caliban’s band of misfits? The great Double Mac, reduced to nothing. Stepping in Caliban’s shadow must be pretty cold, right? I mean, he’s accomplished nothing incredible recently, and you’re even lower than him. Forced to face the “Up and Comers”.
Jayden Thunder: It’s pathetic, Cormack. This weekend, you will step in to the ring with Zenith. You will “fight the good fight” but then the unavoidable will occur. Lightning will strike and one of your shoulders will be pinned to the mat for the three count. The music will play and the crowd will react, but you won’t want to hear it. You’ll drown it out and then…you’ll fade away.
(A sneer cracks on Jayden’s lips)
Jayden Thunder: And last, and certainly least, the Legion. Mr. E, Robert Wolf, and Drake Goodnight…Just what in the hell do you think you’re doing? Some hired muscle, here to take everyone down? You know what I think? I think karma is going to come back to get you. You’re just rabid dogs, always on the offense, moving with no tact. I doubt you even make it to Aftermath.
Colin Marshall: Even if you do make it, it won’t matter. You’re just another head on the block for us. We will enter the ring this weekend and walk out victorious. This is our destiny. This is our Zenith.
(The scene fades to black)
