ON CAMERA
The scene opens to a rundown desolate part of Los Angeles, California, as the camera pans along, it comes across an old 1967 Chevrolet Impala with its windows and body smashed up and dented. Suddenly the car’s stereo system flickers into life and begins to play the 1941 hit single of The Ink Spots entitled ‘I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire’.
I don't want to set the world on fire
I just want to start a flame in your heart
In my heart I have but one desire
And that one is you
No other will do
I've lost all ambition for worldly acclaim
I just want to be the one you love
And with your admission that you feel the same
I'll have reached the goal I'm dreaming of
Believe me
I don't want to set the world on fire
I just want to start a flame in your heart
The stereo then suddenly dies as the camera continues to pan around the street, ripped up posters of the upcoming One Pay-Per-View line the walls; the silence that now dominates this dreary atmosphere is bone chilling. The camera then finally reaches me as I am sat here on a wooden bench dressed in a pair of black biker boots, a pair of black leather trousers, a pair of black leather fingerless gloves and a fastened up hooded, sleeveless leather coat. I’m looking down at the floor, with my heavily tattooed arms resting on my thighs as a sudden gust of wind blows one of the posters onto my foot, I lean forward and pick it up, looking at it I notice the pictures of myself and Oblivion. A smirk can be seen forming across my face that is mostly hidden by my hood as I crumple the poster in my hand before taking a packet of cigarettes and a lighter from my coat pocket, I take one of the cigarettes from the packet and pop it into my mouth and place the packet back into my pocket before stating one simple word.
“War…”
I then light my cigarette and place my lighter back into my pocket, I take a long drag of my cigarette and slowly exhale before continuing.
“War never changes. Since the dawn of human kind, when our ancestors first discovered the killing power of rock and bone, blood has been spilled in the name of everything: from religious beliefs to justice to superiority…”
I shake my head at the thought of how pathetic the human race can be, fighting wars for absolutely no reason. So much death and destruction, and for what? Proof that the religion you believe in is the true one? Proof that you are part of a better or superior country? In my opinion, these kinds of wars are pointless and ridiculous. I snap back into the real world and continue.
“One of the most famous religious wars in history was the Thirty Years War that began in 1618 and ended in 1648. It was between the Catholics and the Protestants and involved a majority of Europe, including countries such as France, England, Russia, Spain, Hungary, just to name a few. It was one of the longest and most destructive conflicts in European history, and one of the longest continuous wars in modern history.”
I take another drag of my cigarette, thinking about the next war I’m going to speak of before continuing.
“Probably the most famous superiority war in history was the East Coast West Coast hip-hop rivalry that began in 1991 and resulted in the deaths of former friends turned enemies, Tupac Shakur and Christopher ‘Notorious B.I.G’ Wallace. Both of whom were murdered by unknown assailants and to this day, their murders remain unsolved.”
I slowly lift my head up and glare into the camera; my ice cold blue eyes pierce the lens as I take yet another drag of my cigarette as I continue.
“And now I come to the most famous justice war in history, a war that is yet to happen, but one that the whole world will witness come Sunday, live from the Staples Center, right here in Los Angeles, California. The war between ‘The Monster’ Oblivion…and ‘The Punisher’ Matthew Robinson.”
I slowly stand to my feet and begin to make my way down the dark, desolate street. I think about the words that came from mouth of the so-called Monster and I let out a small chuckle before continuing.
“Oblivion, you seem to believe that I have come here to the WCF and expect hand-outs…you seem to believe that I have come here because all my past wrestling endeavours have failed…you seem to believe that I do not understand that to achieve greatness in this industry, I have to give my blood…sweat…and tears. Well you can believe all of those things if you wish, but rest assured, you are wrong. I have NEVER asked for a hand-out here because I have NEVER been one to just expect to be given a damn thing, I have ALWAYS worked hard for EVERYTHING that I have ever achieved. I have been wrestling since 2008 Oblivion, I first began my career in the World Wrestling Association and I went undefeated for eleven consecutive matches and in just my third match, I won the companies second most prestigious championship, the International Championship and later I became a one time World Tag Team Champion and a Hall of Famer. After the company closed in early 2009, I moved onto the National Wrestling Association, where I won every championship I was eligible to win at least once, I held the World Tag Team Championships three times and held the World Heavyweight Championship a record five times. I also became the companies first ever Grand Slam Champion as well as becoming the companies first ever dual Hall of Famer. So my past wrestling endeavours didn’t fail…and I certainly understand that to achieve greatness, I need to put my blood, sweat and tears into everything I do, it’s all I have EVER done during my entire wrestling career.”
I take another drag of my cigarette as I continue.
“The difference between you and I Oblivion is simple. Because of the fact that I haven’t been around here in the WCF as long as you, probably haven’t even been wrestling as long as you have period. Because of those facts, you have already discounted me going into this match, you’re underestimating me and you believe that your experience alone will defeat me. This surprises me…someone who has been around in the wrestling business as long as you have should know that where experience can be an advantage, it doesn’t guarantee you the victory. And that is why you will fail on Sunday, Oblivion, you are underestimating me, and you state that I will find out on Sunday exactly why people call you the God of Insanity…and why people call you the God of Hardcore. You say I will be bruised, banged up and that I will bleed? WELL I FUCKING EXPECT IT! What you need to fucking realise Oblivion…is come Sunday…YOU will discover why I am called The Punisher…it’s not because I decided to name myself after some comic book hero…NO…you will find out that the reason why I am called The Punisher…IS BECAUSE I PUNISH PEOPLE!”
I stop dead in my tracks, finishing off my cigarette; I drop it and stub it out with my boot before continuing.
“You talk about my lack of respect and then proceed to threaten my wife Oblivion? I have never disrespected you, matter of fact, in terms of what you have achieved during your wrestling career, I do respect you…but rest assured…I do not respect you as a person. I have NEVER disrespected ANYONE in this company, unless they have disrespected me or my family. I had no issues with Sarah Twilight, until she booked my heavily pregnant wife in a match against a steroid abusing freak of nature! I had no issues with Steve Orbit, until he referred to my wife as a whore! I had no issues with Logan or Lilith, until they spoke ill of my wife and proceeded to kidnap people close to me! I had no issues with you, until you assaulted me and started accusing me of disrespecting this great company! So you want to kidnap my wife? Is that it? Let me tell you the story of my younger brother, Simon X…like you he was a large masked freak who believed the entire world was against him and wouldn’t accept him for being different…he proceeded to kidnap my wife…would you like to hazard a guess as to where he is now? HE’S SIX FEET UNDER GROUND BECAUSE I FUCKING KILLED HIM! So let me ask you something Oblivion, if I would go as far as to kill my own flesh and blood for kidnapping my wife, how could you possibly fathom what I would do to you? So if I were you Oblivion…I would stay well clear of my wife…for you will NEVER live long enough to tell people your story!”
I look down to the floor and close my eyes, I then take hold of my hood and pull it down off my head and open my eyes to reveal that they’re a blood red colour as my inner demon speaks for me and says.
“The Punisher is here…and he’s here…to punish!”
I then walk off camera and the camera zooms in on another torn poster for One as the scene fades.
