Scene One|Aberdeen, Washington
"So, it's been done?"
Those words emit themselves from the mouth of Jason Weslow, who is currently sitting on a brown wooden chair just outside the front of his home. It can be seen that he is holding his cell phone to his ear; is wearing a black Nike shirt, jeans and black Nike shoes that have a yellow Swoosh and tongue. Although it's unknown who he is talking to, one can assume that by the tone that's in his voice, that what is being spoken about is important; whether it be regarding the wrestling portion of his life, or otherwise.
~Voice On The Other End~
"Yes. They approved your contract earlier today and formalized the deal that we had negotiated with them yesterday."
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"Were there any changes that I should know about?"
Awaiting the reply, Jason is fully aware that some promotions like to make slight changes to contracts of newly signed talents, in order to favor them. It's just an aspect of business- companies are always looking to get the best deal for themselves, even if it means cheapening the value of the wrestler himself. In fact, Jason has been on the receiving end of those on a couple of occasions. Each one teaching him something new about tricks that he can use to gain leverage the next time he is due to sit down at the negotiation table with the executives that sign his paychecks.
~Voice~
"Not at all. Luckily they actually didn't change anything; it's still the same as what you signed last night."
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"Ah, OK then. Anything else that you needed to run by me, Peter?"
By those words, it can now be revealed that the voice on the other end of the phone, was Peter Phelps. The agent that Jason hired in 2009, in order to better organize his contractual dealings. Not that he can't handle that stuff by himself- he's an astute businessman and negotiator. Its just easier for him to be able to delegate the tasks off to somebody else; it's a role that Peter is content with taking. Of course Peter isn't going to complain- to him, it's a great way to acquire more income and help a client receive the best deal that he possibly can. That's believed to have happened with the W.C.F, even if the minor nuances and terms of the deal are undisclosed to the media; the general public.
~Peter Phelps|Jason's Agent~
"They did inform me that you had been slotted in as one of the participants in their "Slam Roulette" event card, which is to be held this Sunday at the Pepsi Center in Denver. It is there, that they wish for you to make your debut into the company. Your opponent will not be revealed until the night."
Jason slightly smiles at this. It's a stipulation that he has experienced in past companies; one that never fails to keep talent on their toes; force them to expect anything and everything to occur. Just how wrestling should be. Is it a disadvantage? To an extent, one could claim that it is a disadvantage, as it takes away any opportunity to truly scout a specific opponent, but on the other hand- all it means, is that you have to scout more opponents. Which in fact, could easily turn into an advantage down the line, should you have to face one of the opponents that had been mentioned during this 'Roulette' style event.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"I can definitely go with that. Did they say when they wanted me to be in Denver? Or if a hotel had been booked for me to stay? I don't mind if I have to book my own, you know that. Just trying to make sure that all the bases are covered before I go too deep into work that later proves to have been unnecessary."
~Peter Phelps|Jason's Agent~
"They want you to be in Denver tomorrow, for promotional interviews and the like; as for the hotels- nothing was mentioned to me, but I'd assume that they would have one booked. Although, you're better off finding if there's any openings around, just to stay on the safe side of things."
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"What time tomorrow did they want me to arrive there? As for the hotels- I'll get looking around online and making a few calls shortly, just to make sure whether or not there is already a booking. As you said, it's just to stay on the safe side, as it is better to be safe than sorry."
Soft laughter comes from the other end of the line, at the mention of that cliche.
~Peter Phelps|Jason's Agent~
"Uh huh and they said anytime in the morning."
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"Ah, alright then. I'll probably fly in at about nine A.M. Well, anyway man- I've got a few things that I need to do, so I'll talk to you when I get into Denver tomorrow, OK?"
~Peter Phelps|Jason's Agent~
"Yeah and alright Jason. I better be getting off here soon- otherwise my other clients will be wondering where there paperwork is ~laughter follows~. I'll talk to you tomorrow."
Jason then pulls the receiver from his ear; hanging up the cell and placing it back into the pocket of his jeans, smiling slightly to himself. He didn't expect to be entering the ring under the W.C.F banner so soon after signing on the dotted lines, but he knows that he also timed his entrance perfectly. Even if it was a coincidence that it happened the week that W.C.F were planning to hold a 'Slam Roulette'. Yes, these sorts of things can't be planned in advance, for one isn't expected to know what upper management could be thinking at any time. A task, made even harder to predict when the person isn't actually in the federation while everything was being planned. It takes timing and a stroke of luck, in order to make everything piece itself together, and for Jason- that's exactly what aligned itself for him. Slowly making his way back to the red painted oak front door of his house, you can tell that he is probably more than psychically and mentally prepared for the challenges that will confront him soon enough. All that he needs to do, is translate that into the ring, just as he has done so many times in the past.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"They say that the cream always rises to the top. That once you step into the ring, everything lays firmly upon your shoulders. I'm used to that. I'm use to being the one with the pressure on them to perform; that's something that I've brought upon myself. See, i don't call myself the traditional wrestler- yes, I can go with the best technically but I prefer to label myself as a fighter. A warrior, who does what's best by him. While some try to live by honor, I live by the code of 'do unto others, before they do unto you'. That sound familiar?"
Laughing to himself, Jason swings the door handle open, thrusting his hand forward before making his way into the hall.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"Don't worry, I aren't here to try and bore anybody with the story of my life. At least, not just now. It's honestly not the right time to play the violin while I tell you the soppy story about how i've fought for everything I have. Everything that I've enjoyed in life; how it all goes back to fighting. Scrapping and clawing my way to the peak from the bottom of the ladder. All that you need to know, rests inside of this quote- "if you don't know me by now, you probably never will". Sounds a bit arrogant and over the top, but at the same time- it's honest. There's nothing that people shouldn't know about me. I've stated everything whether it be online, or in person. If you haven't been able to track it down, then chances are that you probably never will. But that's outside of the ring. When it comes to inside of the ring, you'll find that side out when we step into the ring. For one, or even some of you- that could be as soon as this upcoming week. For the rest- the time will come soon enough. I guarantee that much right now."
Pausing, he closes the door as he walks toward his bedroom.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"W.C.F, I am your final frontier. The last piece, required to take you to that next level; all you have to do now, is enjoy the ride that will be following. The roller coaster, of the ascent I intend on making back to the apex of wrestling. Back to the apex of fighting, and doing everything that results in grasping the metaphorical 'brass ring' once again. I've had the taste; I just simply want to savor it."
The feed cuts, as Jason lets a loud but relaxing sigh leave his mouth.
Scene Two|Denver, Colorado
A vacant back alley. It's where the seedy teens of the city congregate to commence drug deals, or even declare 'gang warfare' on each other, for the purpose of attempting to acquire some sense of supremacy over the 'cliques' that roam around. Graffiti tags are scattered ever so freely across the surrounding buildings, despite the assumed best attempts of local authorities to keep the streets clean. You know how these sorts of people are though. They're always looking to stay one step ahead of the law; are willing to do so at any cost. While there isn't anybody here at the moment, a rarity, that can easily be explained by the fact that it's three P.M in the afternoon; the teens dont usually start arriving for another two or three hours. Business is better done, when the sun's falling and there's almost no possibility of somebody coming in and interfering with the deals being made.
Well, of course there's the occasional kid or two that do there deals earlier in the day, but they come around rarely and usually wouldn't arrive for another hour or so regardless. On the same token, the 'vacant' portion of the description is also somewhat deceiving. Yes, no children are around, but there is a solitary male figure wearing a black hooded jumper **thus concealing his identity**, black tracksuit pants and a pair of black Nike shoes with a red Swoosh on the sides. He's resting against the front of one of the tagged and graffiti covered buildings, nonchalant and unaware of the area that he finds himself in, although he does reach up and pull the hood slightly back. Enough, so that the facial features can be revealed as being Jason Weslow.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"Now, I know what you're thinking. Has Jason seriously decided to go down the route of gangs and drugs. And the answer is no. I haven't decided to go down that route, so why am i here? Why am i in a place, that notorious for being the 'hide out' for drug dealers and gangsters, if I'm not one myself. The answer to that, is simple: it's the ideal place to send a message. See, right now, it's solitary. An alone existence, isolated from the remainder of society. Theres no chance of anybody coming up and trying to get themselves involved, while I'm speaking my mind. No chance of anything being able to distract the people from hearing what I've got to say; the facts that they're about to indulge themselves in. There is a second reason, the fact that i know more about gangs and the seedy nature of the back alley's than anyone realizes. Remember, I did grow up in an area just like this one, albeit in Aberdeen, Washington instead of Denver, Colorado. But the pretense is the same- I grew up, having to fight my way through alley's just like this one."
A gentle smirk crosses the otherwise stoic face of Jason.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"Did I enjoy fighting? No, but i did it for the sole reason that it was what was necessary. It was what was required, in order to have any chance of survival in a neighborhood that was rougher than people like to believe. See, we all have beliefs. We all allow ourselves, to try and paint a picture of happiness; of bliss, to replace sorrow. It's human nature; something that seeps through in every moment of our lives. It's why alot of people turn to wrestling- it's a legalized way to hurt people; to make your own pain become thrust upon somebody else. It serves as a protective barrier from our own emotions, even if there are times where personal and wrestling get blended together, causing a blur to happen. Causing people, to start taking things literally; hurting anybody and everybody in sight. Of course, some of it is justified, but there's times where it's done merely because the persona one had built, becomes there controlling force."
Unfolding his arms, a soft laugh leaves his lips. He's been on both ends of the scale- justified blurring and also unjustified blurring, so he speaks from experience on this topic.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"I've seen it happen. Even to those who claim that they are strong enough mentally to withstand those barriers. I was one of those people, and it changed me. It made me realize that the force that had consumed me, was stronger than I ever realized that it was a stronger pull than I had imagined. Than I had planned for. And i let that push me away from what I had built my career on. The cause, that I had been fighting for. I came to accept it though; embrace the control that it had over me, using it in order to create almost a weird sense of balance between the man I truly was, and the man that people had come to envision me is. Just like so many others have done, just like many others have failed to do. I've managed to translate it into a focused intensity; a focus plan when I step between the ropes, designed not just to inflict as much pain upon my opponent- to the point where they're going to struggle to even stand, but also to teach myself. To learn further about my own limitations. My own gifts inside of the ring; that is something that cant be ignored."
You can tell that this is all from the heart. That Jason is truly giving an insight into himself, and it's refreshing. While many people try to talk themselves up as being this heroic being that can't do any wrong, Jason wants people to know that he is simply human. And as a human, he has his flaws. Flaws, that he isn't going to hide from- in fact, he actually embraces them. Accepts them as being a part of who he is. Not just in the ring, but also out of it.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"It is where my own moniker of the Final Frontier comes from. I didn't label myself that, I was given it due to the simple fact that I am the one who will define the route my opponents take. Whether that be by teaching them their limitations, or showing them their true inner strength- if somebody needs to make that next step; that leap from being just another member of the pack, into somebody standing out, they turn to me. Am I saying that it'll be the same here in the W.C.F? One cant preempt the future, so Im not saying it will. Just going off past experiences. If it comes to that; I find myself in the position where my opponent does end up seeing me as the final step to stardom, then I embrace it.
I welcome them to come see just where they're at; what they believe is the course to stardom. Because it's different for everyone- one course mightn't work for others. I know my own limitations; I know where i'm strong and what I need to make sure remains hidden, and know the strategies that I must take, in order to minimize any effect my flaws might have on what happens inside of the ring. Whether or not it is them, that halt me in my path. You'd actually be surprised at the amount of people who don't know their limitations. Whether that be by ignorance, or just a simple unwillingness to test their own barriers."
The expression on his face turns from stoic, to one of confidence. Almost bordering on arrogance, if one wants to look deeper into it.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"And it is that, which proves to be their downfall. It's not about what you know about yourself, but what you don't know. I've found myself in positions, where when I thought I knew what to do, I found out that I didn't. That what i was doing, wasn't even close to what needed to be done. What was necessary, for survival to become the viable goal; I learned from that, and use what i have learned in my daily life. It transcends the wrestling business, it becomes something larger than had been originally envisioned."
Pushing himself off the wall, he begins to slowly walk down the concrete sidewalk. Almost deep in thought, but also in a sense of not wanting to do anything to disturb the rhythm and flow of his words. To halt the progression of the discourse that he has engaged himself in.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"We're always learning. Always finding out new facts each and every minute we are on this earth. Whether those facts are about ourselves, or the people around us, we are still learning. You're either in denial, or six feet under the ground if you claim that there is nothing that can be learned. That is what me joining the W.C.F is- a learning experience. It offers me the opportunity to find out about people that I would otherwise have known nothing about; it allows them to learn just as much about me. See, the person you see before you today, is who I am. There's nothing that is made up. Nothing constructed in this persona, that I wouldn't be if I was just on the streets; talking to the average citizen. And why should there be? Why should I try to be something that I aren't? It doesnt serve any purpose at all."
Shaking his head softly, he slowly allows his body to begin the process of relaxing; becoming calm.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"It truly doesn't. In fact, it negatively affects you, if anything. Simply put, you know deep down inside of you, that your persona is not a reflection of who you are. What your true motives are in the world. You know that you aren't the person that they want you to be. That you want them to believe you are. That's something you need to think about when stepping into the ring. Are you living to your own potential, or the potential that others have burdened with. Are you working within yourself, or against yourself? Sure, you can claim that what you fight for is right and just. But, who are we to make those terms concrete?"
His words almost cut through the sky. While truthful, there are many who won't listen; Jason doesn't really bother himself with that. All he cares about, is the fact that the message is out there for the world to see. For the world to absorb and take whatever they believe is applicable to them.
~Jason Weslow|The Final Frontier~
"They're subjective and vary from person to person. What might be just and right to some, is not suited for all. The only thing that remains entirely concrete in it all, is yourself and your family. Those are the two things that you should truly be fighting for. And this week, W.C.F learn that it's exactly why I fight. It's exactly why I do what I do; hold no regrets for my actions. Whoever is pitted against me, will realize that what they thought was concrete, is simply what they had constructed it to be."
A final smile is seen, as Jason disappears from the shot, allowing the feed to cut.
Scene Three|Monologue|Online
Anybody.
Literally anybody on the roster could be my opponent. That includes the world champion; any champion, really.
While some might say it's a little unrealistic to assume a title shot in my first match. And I actually agree with that stance by the way, it's just how the 'luck of the draw' works some times. It's not to be expected, but I'm not going to be declining the chance, should it be presented to me.
I don't know anybody in their right mind, that would decline such an opportunity.
As i stated a few days ago, I like the concept of not knowing who to prepare for. It keeps one on their toes, and shows them the unpredictability that wrestling brings. No, the unpredictability that life brings. Because life itself, is unpredictable in nature.
One cannot know what will happen next, even if everything has been neatly planned. For even the greatest of plans, can be changed at a moment's notice.
It's about accepting that fact; adjusting to it in an adequate fashion. When you do that, then; only then, can you truly be content with what you have done.
With what you have achieved.
For my potential opponents, I am your final frontier. And soon, it will be seen whether or not you can overcome the challenge placed before you, or if you will simply fall be the wayside.
For the rest, the date will come- we shall meet, and your answer will be recorded.
It's all in your hands, the path that you take.
