"We’ve seen a willingness to break rules from the man who built his reputation on integrity and respect..."
"Seemingly turning his back on his former ideas about respect...."
"Coward...."
"Hypocrite...."
"turned on us fans..."
People can be harsh and turn their back on you at any time, especially when you act differently than they feel you should. Everyone feels that they have a say in how you should be, how you should act, who you are. They act like you have to live your life by their standards, by their ideals. It's such arrogance.
The people on the microphones, the boys in the back, even the fans in the seats as I fight in the ring for a win...they all claim that I have changed. They claim that I have turned my back on them. They claim that I have turned my back on my own beliefs, turned my back on the very ideals that I once fought for. They make these claims when what I've really done is turned my back on their ideals, their beliefs, and turned my back on the way they think I should act.
The thing is...it's not me who has turned my back. It is the fans, the wrestlers, the commentators who have turned on...me. Even before I attacked Carlos Estrada, the justifiable attack, I might add, they were turning on me. Slowly, but surely. Now since the attack, people's true colors are finally starting to show.
However, it's fine. This is all part of a plan. A plan bigger than any fan can imagine. A plan bigger than any of my fellow wrestlers can imagine. A plan bigger than the commentators can imagine. I think it's quite obvious that the plan was bigger than even Carlos Estrada could imagine. It has been put into motion. The wheels of war are turning and eventually all will be revealed. Those who watch can see what is happening and where we're headed.
My new manager is just a mere piece of the puzzle. Just a cog in the machine, the Mexican Machine. The US title match at the pay-per-view is nothing but a mere formality. Everyone, Ace Slaughter included, knows where the belt belongs....around the waist of a hated foreigner. How ironic.
What's even more ironic is that both of my opponents in the match happen to also be my opponents this week on Slam. Seth Lerch is just determined to not let the past stay in the past. I should have known as usual that my title matches would not be just a simple match, it never is when Seth Lerch is involved. This is perfect though. One week from TEN and I'm in the ring with two of my opponents. The only thing linking them together is the fact that they will both be facing me in the ring in the United States title match, looking to soften me up so I'm not as big of a threat to each man's quest in walking out of TEN as WCF United States champion. Yet on the other hand, both men have to always be watching their own back while near the other so as to not be open to a sneak attack.
A tag team match for them is a lot worse and more dangerous to their chances at TEN than a singles match would be. Myself? I have a man standing alongside me in the match who isn't even in the United States title match. Just like Ace Slaughter, we both have newcomers as our tag team partners. They might not be new to the wrestling world, but as far as WCF goes, they're new. They both still have something to prove as the fans of WCF do not accept people that do not prove themselves worthy of acceptance first.
Fort Knox has nothing to worry about as far as teaming with the Mexican Machine goes. Hector Rodriguez and Fort Knox will come out on top. They will enter TEN riding the waves of victory. We may have both lost our matches last week due to a pin and a disqualification, but that was then. This is now.
Annie
Mr. Hunt. Daniel Mayes is here.
The video fades into the office of Roger Hunt once again as we see Roger himself, Don Bradley, and Hector Rodriguez all seated at the table in preparation of the interview for Hector's permanent manager. Roger reaches over and hits the intercom button as he responds.
Roger Hunt
Send him in, Annie.
Annie
Are you sure this is the guy you called for an interview?
Roger Hunt
Yeah, Annie. What do you mea---
Suddenly the door to the office goes flying open and nearly busts the wall behind it as a large man enters the room. Roger Hunt's eyes grow really wide at the door flying open, Don Bradley nearly knocks over his cup of coffee, and Hector stands up ready to fight. A bald man with tattoos on his head, eyes bulging out and mouth seething, as if enraged stands before them. He's wearing a wife beater and a pair of jeans.
Roger Hunt
Um...uh...s-sir, are you Daniel Mayes?
The man goes from a seething, raging lunatic to collected, calm and normal in a second flat as he responds.
Daniel Mayes
Yes. I am. Thank you for this opportunity, sir.
Roger and Don exchange confused glances. Hector slowly sits down, keeping a wary gaze on the new man in the room. Well, it's more like a wary eye from the mask that has no eyes in it...um. Roger slowly extends a hand and Daniel shakes his hand. Don does the same and Daniel sits down in a chair across from the three men.
Roger Hunt
You were suggested to us by a friend at the agency.
Daniel Mayes
Yeah, Willie Styles?
Roger Hunt
Huh? That's who I talked to? Why--never mind. So yeah, I guess I talked to him and he said you'd be perfect for what we're looking for.
Daniel turns and looks Hector up and down.
Daniel Mayes
So this is Hector? The man breaking bones, destroying dreams, wrecking lives on WCF television each week?
Don Bradley nods.
Don Bradley
Yeah this is Hector. He's in need of a new manager.
Daniel Mayes
Yeah, because he left Carlos lying in the middle of the ring.
A sinister smile creeps across Daniel's face.
Daniel Mayes
How did it feel when you felt his bones crush beneath you?
Don and Roger exchange a worried glance as Hector looks at Don and shrugs. Roger looks at Daniel warily.
Roger Hunt
So where are you from? I have a vague recollection of talking to Mr. Styles the other night.
Daniel turns to Roger Hunt as his smile fades.
Daniel Mayes
Yeah, he's my parole officer.
Don's neck snaps so quickly towards Roger that he gets a crick in his neck.
Don Bradley
Parole officer?
Don gives Roger a WTF look.
Daniel Mayes
Yeah. I was in prison for a while. They said I killed some people.
Daniel's eye twitches a little at the mention of this. Don's eyes grow wide.
Daniel Mayes
But don't worry, I'm out because their case fell apart. Witnesses mysteriously disappeared, a couple of them were found disemboweled.
Daniel shakes his head sadly, then quickly looks up as if expecting to be made fun of.
Don Bradley
Ummm...so yeah. That's good to know. Hey, how about we have you do a little mock interview for us so we could see if you'd be a potential fit for Hector's new manager?
Daniel Mayes
Wait, do I get to kil---I mean hurt people?
Roger looks at Don before answering.
Roger Hunt
Yes. Kinda. Verbally? Definitely. Physically? Not recommended, there's some big men in WCF.
Daniel looks down at his hands and spaces out.
Daniel Mayes
These hands could devour souls.
Hector looks at Don Bradley as if he understood Daniel perfectly despite the language barrier. Don holds his hands up as if helpless to explain.
Roger Hunt
Wait, what did you say?
Daniel quickly looks up.
Daniel Mayes
I said I have to go devour some soul food later. So yeah, you wanted me to pretend I'm Hector's manager. Who is he fighting?
Don Bradley
He's in a tag team match alongside Fort Knox. They're facing off against Ace Slaughter and Conviction, the two men that Hector will also be facing off against at TEN for the United States title the next week after this week's Slam.
Daniel ponders this for a minute before nodding.
Daniel Mayes
Ok, I got it. Are you guys ready?
Don and Roger nod slowly. Hector leans forward, on the edge of his seat as Daniel clears his throat and prepares to perform.
Daniel Mayes
Conviction, Ace Slaughter. You do not stand a chance against the team of Hector Rodriguez and Fort Knox. I'm going to just go ahead and tell you now that you're going to lose on Slam this week as this team of Hector and Fort Knox are a formidable duo. They are a force to be reckoned with. Conviction, you got lucky last week with your underhanded win over my friend Hector. How ironic is it that the very man who interfered in your match last week is now your tag team partner one week before the pay-per-view and then on top of that you're now in the US title match at TEN. Ironic? No, I sense a conspiracy.
Daniel's eye starts twitching again.
Daniel Mayes
I HATE CONSPIRACIES!!! You know what? Ace, Conviction, show up to the match this week. Climb in the ring. Wait for Hector and Knox to enter the ring. Wait for the bell to ring signaling the start of the match, because when you hear that bell sound, that's the beginning of the end for you two. Hector and Knox are going to crush you both. They're going to break every bone in your body. They're going to chew on your souls.
Daniel quickly turns to Hector and points at him.
Daniel Mayes
Because if Hector doesn't, I WILL. I will come into that arena, run down the ramp, climb into the ring and hurt you both, destroy you both. I will feed off of your very souls and consume your essence. The gods above have deemed your souls, Conviction and Ace Slaughter. They have damned them both to the deepest bowels of hell imaginable. They are no longer truly your own, they are simply on borrowed time. The gods above have deemed me worthy of deciding upon your fates due to the horrific act you performed upon young Hector Rodriguez.
Daniel keeps babbling on as Roger and Don sneak over to the side and begin whispering to each other.
Don Bradley
How the hell did you get this guy?
Roger Hunt
I don't know, the agency sent him.
Don Bradley
What did you ask for?
Roger Hunt
I asked for a man of much conviction. Oh wait...ohhhhhh.
Don Bradley
What?
Roger Hunt
I may have been slightly inebriated when I made the call and when I was thinking a man of much conviction, I may have slipped and said a man with many convictions.
Don Bradley
That would explain the psycho inmate we have in here wanting to eat souls.
Suddenly, Daniel's face slowly rises up behind them. He also whispers to them.
Daniel Mayes
This is how softly the voices in my head speak to me, are you speaking to them also?
Don is in the middle of taking a drink of his coffee and freaks out when he realizes Daniel is whispering to them and accidentally spews hot coffee into the eyes of Roger Hunt. Roger jumps up and screams in pain. Don jumps back and Daniel does also. Roger goes running out of the office towards the restroom as Hector sits there at the table shaking his head. Daniel turns to Don looking completely calm and relaxed.
Daniel Mayes
So...how did I do?
Don looks beside himself as he answers.
Don Bradley
Oh...um, I think you did great. Hey Hector, why don't you see Mr. Mayes out of here. Mr. Mayes, we'll get in touch with you. We have one more interview to do before we make our decision.
Hector gets up from the table and walks out of the office with Daniel Mayes. Don Bradley picks up his phone and dials a number. He puts it up to his ear as someone on the other end picks up.
Don Bradley
Hey Hank. Yeah, it's Don. Look, set up an interview for Hector and myself. No, we haven't picked a manager yet. Yes, we just interviewed someone but don't screw up like last week and tell people it's his new manager. It's not even his manager for the week. I'm the manager this week, NEXT week his permanent manager WILL debut at TEN. Yeah, see you then.
Don Bradley hangs up the phone and looks out of the office, shaking his head in disbelief as the video fades.
