*An empty arena. Quite. Dim. In the middle, a ring. The "squared circle" if you will. It is here that men shed blood, sweat, and tears for one goal. To be the best, to be the champion of the world. To reach and grasp the top of the mountain and gain the glory and admiration of all the fans. It is in that very ring that the same story will be told once again as Dake Ken and Johnny Reb, two bitter rivals, will clash with one goal in each of their minds. Winning the WCF Championship. Establishing dominance. In the middle of the ring stands the current champion, Dake Ken. He is in his street clothes, without the title walking the perimeter of the ring. At certain points he stops and bounces, testing the mat. He is meticulous in his manner. Every little nuance of the surface must be inspected. It could prove to be either a hindrance or prove to be an advantageous flaw. In a match where one man could be as high as twenty feet in the air, it is only logical to map out the foundation. After Dake has become satisfied with the mat he begins checking the ropes. He grabs on to the top rope and pulls it toward him. He then takes a few steps back and releases the rope. The rope bounces back and forth, back and forth. Slowly it comes to a stop. Dake grabs the rope again and repeats the process. He seems to be a bit unhappy with how loose the ropes are, and he takes a quick look around to see if there is a WCF crew member around. There is no one around.*
Dake: Perfect.
*Dake's words are spoken with a great deal of sarcasm. He shrugs off the issue and actually bounces off the ropes. As he reaches the center of the ring he stops and turns back to look at the ropes one more time.*
(In any given situation you must be prepared for all things. That is what Dake has always believed and always will. Preparation is the key to victory. Being one step ahead of your opponent, knowing your environment, and technical perfection all have helped lead Dake to a career that has been one of the most rewarding in history. XGWO World Champion and Hall of Famer. WCF Champion, TV Champion, Tag Team Champion, legend. All these things are directly connected to the fact that Dake is always focused on preparing for the match at hand. Hours of time in the film room. Hours of in ring training. Hours of practice with technique and precision. Hours that have turned into months. Months that have turned into years. Time that has turned Dake into one of the best. All leading up to tonight. The "Ultimate Showdown."
*Dake walks over to a turnbuckle and hops up on it. His sits on the top rope and simply looks out at the empty arena. There are a few arena employees walking around preparing for the show. Some are sweeping the aisle, some are cleaning the chairs that will be filled later tonight. WCF crew members have now started to mess with lighting for the entrance of the stage. The large screen above the ramp is also switching back and forth from the famous vertical colored bars and a spinning WCF logo. Suddenly, very loud audio is pumping through the PA. In fact, the camera man is so startled by this that the camera shakes for a moment. Causing the camera to kind of cut out for a moment. In a few seconds everything is back to normal and the volume of the music has been turned down to a level that is much more pleasant on the ear. Dake is looking at the camera man and has a smile on his face.*
Dake: Don't have a heart attack. I really don't want to wrestle in a ring where someone has died. That would really be some bad vibes.
*A voice comes from off screen*
Voice: It startled me, it was loud.
Dake: Yeah, it was loud but what'd you expect? It's a PA in an arena, it's going to be loud! Gotta be loud enough for the piped in boos for Gravedigger. Dude couldn't get over if he beat up an old lady with a steel chair.
*The camera man laughs and Dake laughs at his own joke as well.*
(Some call it the calm before the storm, and even for a veteran like Dake, it still happens. There is that feeling. It's hard to explain. It almost is like a mixture of anticipation and fear. The odd feeling it leaves in one's gut is universal. Weather it be a bands first gig, a wedding, or a champion defending his title, there is that moment where everything seems to be moving at slower pace and the mind is rushing. Time slowly drags by as the seconds turn into, what feels like, minutes. That is where Dake is now. Simply awaiting the battle tonight. He is as focused as ever, and probably more than any other time in his career looking to prove a point.)
*"Bad Company" suddenly plays over the PA system, and any look of joy or happiness on Dake's face melts. He looks straight ahead, he eyes cold and his eyebrows slanted. You can see his jaw tense up and a vein in his neck starts to make itself visible.*
Dake: You know. I find it funny how people think they know how the world works, when actually they're perception of truth and fact are so far from the mark. Here you have a guy, who wants to go around and call himself the smartest wrestler in the WCF, when he doesn't even know a single thing about his opponent.
*Dake hops off the top turnbuckle and lands on the canvas. He walks to the other side of the ropes and leans on them with his forearms crossed.*
Dake: Smart is not using a chair to beat the unbeaten. When you cracked Slickie-T in the head, all you did was show your true colors. You might want to camouflage your actions as resourceful. You might even say that you were one step ahead of him, but that is not the case. Using a steel chair to beat an opponent is not "smart" or "resourceful." It is cowardly. You say you have never backed down from me in a fight, which is true, I'll give you that but you are simply too afraid to face me like a man. Every time that I've stepped into the ring with you, Johnny, you have found a way to cut a corner or find an easy way out, and since that compromises your integrity you create this facade of intelligence to cover up the fact, that deep down, you are nothing but a small little coward. You know you can't beat me in a match. You know that. So what do you do? You come up with this irrational idea that you are the "smartest" wrestler in the WCF. What a joke!
*Dake stands back up straight and looks at the camera. He walks to the center of the ring. He holds out his hand to the empty seats in the arena and turns. Thousands of empty seats.*
Dake: You think you fool these people? You think these people actually think you are the "smartest" wrestler in the business?
*A hint of anger can be heard in Dake's voice as it has progressively gotten a more "growling" characteristic to it as he has been speaking.*
Dake: For years I have been studying my opponents and making sure that before we ever step in a ring, I know what they are going to do. For years I have made sure that when I step into a ring, I know what I am going to do and how I am going to do it. I have beaten the biggest names in this business and I have done it by making sure I knew more than them. I have beaten the biggest names in this business because I am smarter than them! I have dedicated my life to making sure I am the personification of perfection Johnny! And you have the audacity to sit there and ignore all that?! You have the audacity to think that just because there are no rules tonight that you are going to win?! You must know this is not true, and it must eat you up. It must anger you ... it must anger you to the point where displace your anger on Dixie. She seems to have a level head on her shoulders. Let me educate you Johnny. I want to lay something out for you.
I do not have to follow the rules. I choose to because it is the honorable thing to do, and honor is obviously something you know nothing about. Before WCF I wrestled in a place called the XGWO. There have been a few other XGWO superstars to wrestle in the WCF as well. Trent Hunter, X-Rated, and Slickie-T. All of those men are or were champions in this organization. Three of us have held the WCF Championship and Allen is the current US Champion. What does this mean? Well, it means that the talent level of that promotion is very high, and it was home to the best in the world. When I wrestled there I was in the main event, and shortly before the doors closed I was to wrestle a man by the name of Claymore for the XGWO World Championship. Not in a normal match though. It was a special match, in fact ... it's the same match we're having tonight! A ladder match! It was in this match that I won the XGWO World Championship and I didn't lose that title until the XGWO shut down! So don't think just because you know how to break the rules that you are going to have some sort of magical advantage over me. If you had done your homework. If you were actually as smart as you claim to be you would already know this. However ... you simply over look this fact. You think you know it all. You think you are some gift.
I've seen many like you come and go Johnny. Tonight we will face off again. This time you won't have a Dake Ken who is looking to keep honor and dignity. You are looking a very pissed off, very dangerous man. You are looking at the best of the best and you are looking at an impossible task. Your "smarts" aren't going to be paying off tonight. I already know what you are going to try and do. Instead of belittling my girlfriend I have spent more time going over and breaking you down. Dissecting your tendencies and making sure I'm one step ahead. It's what I've done for a long time, and it's what has made me a champion in multiple promotions. And tonight my "smarts" are going to make sure I retain the WCF World Championship.
*As Dake finishes his rant "Bow Down" by Born of Osiris hits on the PA system. Dake looks into the camera and smirks. The famous cocky Dake Ken smirk. The smirk that simply says, "I'm better than you." The kind of look that eats you up ... pisses you off ... and lets you know that Dake believes he is the best in the world. Dake turns away and heads to the back. As he reaches to top of the ramp he turns and takes one last look at the empty arena. His music cuts and everything is silent. The calm before the storm.*
Dake: Perfect.
