Matt Draven vs. Noble Savage
"Normal for the Spider"
Word Count: 2,281
---------------------------------------------------------
Noble Savage is laying on a white couch inside what seems to be a luxury apartment. She is playfully tossing a miniature glass skull in the air and catching it. Lady Abernathy walks in with a pamphlet in her hand and tosses it at Noble Savage, who catches the skull figurine one last time and sets it down to see what the pamphlet says.
NOBLE:
"What's this?"
LADY ABERNATHY:
"The program the final Slam before the pay per view... You're facing Matt Draven."
Noble Savage sits up, then opens the pamphlet and starts looking it over.
NOBLE:
"Hmm... Draven, Draven, Draven... Why does that name sound so familiar?"
LADY ABERNATHY:
"Perhaps because your most recent victim was his tag partner. But he won't be as easy. Matt Draven is not the smooth jazzy type; he has been known to thrive in chaos."
Noble Savage scoffs and tosses the pamphlet aside.
SAVAGE:
"Chaos? What chaos? Lady there's no such thing as THRIVING IN CHAOS. There are only three types of people when it comes to Chaos There are victims of-, there are survivors of-, and then there is Brandi... All three of these end in Savage."
Noble Savage grabs the little glass skull again, and holds it up. We can now see that inside the skull is a trapped fly, trying frantically to get out.
SAVAGE:
"You see this? This is Matt Draven. He is an insect. But out of all insects he could be, the only one he resembles is this fly. And do you know why that is? Because while most insects have a sting or a bite, the fly does not... The only thing the fly does is what its name suggests; it flies. When it lands, it vomits on its food before trying to eat. And Matt Draven does just that. He flies around and flies around, then falls flat on his face and chokes on his own oral diarrhea, then gets up and starts flying around again... Trying incessantly to get a buzz... Much like this fly, he will continue to try. He will never give up..."
Noble Savage twists the top part of the glass skull and takes the lid off, letting the fly out.
SAVAGE:
"That is just hoping that he is never scheduled to have a one on one match with a fly swatter known as Noble, OR..."
Noble Savage now thrusts her open palm and snaps it into a fist around the newly freed fly. We hear very subtle crunching sound from the fly being crushing within her pale hand.
SAVAGE:
"... He meets his demise in the form of the venus fly trap known as Savage. There's no sugar-coating it. He is going up against the WCF World Champion and he will never forget it. Matt Draven will learn just why the gold is around my waist and no one else's, let alone some bug in his league. The man has even been regarded a fly, has he not?"
LADY ABERNATHY:
"I believe what you meant to say was flyer... He's been regarded as a high flyer, yes."
SAVAGE:
"Are you serious? He's a flyer? What's that supposed to mean? A frequent flyer? What's he going to get let us use his discount on our next plane ticket?"
LADY ABERNATHY:
"I find your attempt at humor to be quite displeasing. You know that is not the type of flyer that they mean."
SAVAGE:
"I know, I know... He's a FLYER flyer... The type of flyer I am going to staple to a tree to let people know I am in town."
LADY ABERNATHY:
"Brandi..."
SAVAGE:
"The type of flyer they sell you for a dime a dozen at FedEx Office..."
LADY ABERNATHY:
"BRANDI!"
NOBLE:
"What?"
LADY ABERNATHY:
"Focus... Open your hand."
Noble Savage now opens up her balled up fist and reveals the now dead fly. She proceeds to stand up from the couch and walks over to a shelf. On the shelf are other glass figurines similar to the skull sh held on the couch. Noble Savage grabs one of the glass figures that is shaped like an egg. She untwists the top and drops the dead fly inside it. As soon as the fly drops, we see that there was a spider in there already. The spider immediately starts wrapping the fly up in a spool of webbing. Noble Savage replaces the lid.
SAVAGE:
"You want to talk about focus now, Lady... After talking about chaos to the cleric of balance... What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly, Lady. You know that. I know you know that. When it comes to in ring competition, I am the chaos that balances with the order. Matt Draven, much like everyone else, approaches these encounters in the same way because they are so used to the calm before the storm... Then they see themselves face to face with the storm herself and their entire personality spins a one eighty. That's what happens to these fools, Lady... The same thing that happened to the fly when along came the spider."
Noble Savage smirks and glances at Lady Abernathy, who looks at her sharply without any emotion whatsoever. Noble Savage walks back to the couch and grabs the WCF pamphlet before taking a seat.
SAVAGE:
"So, what is it Lady? Is it his 'quote - un quote' success in the tag team division? A division that has proven to be an abject failure in the WCF in the past? Through no fault of his own, of course. Matt Draven played very little part in the rise and fall of the WCF tag titles, and what does that say about him? That in a pile of cringe inducing acts, he wasn't even the best one. So, now that he has failed at failure, he is given the opportunity to face WCF's Heavyweight Champion of the World. So the fact that he managed to be a forgettable name in the division that Sad Mule McMuffin and the Lard Robber made irrelevant, leaves very little to be desired about him as an opponent."
LADY ABERNATHY:
"Tell me something, Soul Witch, have you ever heard the term 'go-home show'?"
NOBLE:
"Of course, Lady. The last show before the pay per view, what's your point?"
LADY ABERNATHY:
"My point, my Noble Savage, is that unlike you, I have a contract with WCF that explicitly states I must encourage your promos for each and every single show. Regardless of it being a pay per view, it is our duty to advertise your matches and make the WCF Galaxy want to watch despite your less than interesting competition. I owe them a proper promo from you, and that fact is doubly so now that we are at the cusp of the Go Home Slam before Till Death Do Us Part."
SAVAGE:
"So, essentially in a nutshell what you are asking of me is to pretend Matt Draven is any sort of credible competition... To hype him up so that the fans legitimately believe that he stands a chance against me. Are you off your tree, Lady? You expect me to--
LADY ABERNATHY:
"That attitude is what made you fall short against Rabid. Sure you may possess the ability to decimate anyone in the squared circle, especially an upstart reject like Matt Draven, but you do show signs of overconfidence every now and then. Learn when to tap in to the Noble and when to tap in to the Savage."
SAVAGE:
"I already know how to do that. You are speaking as if Matt Draven stands a prayer of a chance. What are you really suggesting?"
LADY ABERNATHY:
"Cut a promo, Brandi. Speak about Matt Draven and why the WCF Galaxy should tune in. Let them know that this is not just another Noble Savage win as they all expect. Let them know why this is a show worthy of being the last Slam before Till Death Do Us Part. Make this a noteworthy night."
NOBLE:
"Don't tell me WHAT the answer is, Lady, tell me WHERE the answer is. Make me work for it the way you used to. I know I've surpassed all expectations, but they have me facing Matt Draven for crying out loud. So it is obvious someone in upper management believes I am still at that lower level. So if they think I am in the same stage of my career as Matt Draven then maybe I should be training the same way I would back then. Maybe I should pretend I have something to train for. Maybe that would also be a good way to hype up the go home show, by me pretending that there is a ghost of a chance that Savage won't absolutely make a meat sauce out of this guy."
LADY ABERNATHY:
"I cannot help but feel as though you have not been paying attention. Matt Draven is not as easily distracted as The Animal. He actually has a brain... He becomes more dangerous as he becomes more threatened. Do not take him lightly. Now go, put together a promo, that way we both get paid, then go to the ring on Monday and do what you do best."
SAVAGE:
"Matt Draven, though... How can anyone hype up Matt Draven? He can not even hype up himself. I mean, even his own tag partner could not do it, he tried. Your contract with WCF may state that you have to hype up every match I am in, but MY contract with WCF simply states I have to fight."
Lady Abernathy shakes her head and walks toward the door. She stops at the threshold and turns back to Noble Savage, glancing around at the apartment as she speaks.
LADY ABERNATHY:
"Enjoy this... Luxury... Of having 5 star apartments especially catered to your specifications in every town the WCF visits... With an attitude like yours, I can almost guarantee that the perks won't last very long. Your rematch with the Time Witch is going to follow this one, and if you do not use this opportunity to get serious, you won't be prepared."
Lady Abernathy walks off and the door shuts itself behind her. Noble Savage stays looking at the door and a look of anger takes over her face.
SAVAGE:
"So, now I am supposed to do your job for you, huh Lady? I guess that means I have to do Matt Draven's job for him as well... Jeez!"
Noble Savage walks around the apartment while looking around admiring the fixtures and decorations, almost as if the words spoken by Lady Abernathy are echoing inside her head. She walks past a Victorian style mirror and pauses, then takes a step back and looks at her reflection.
SAVAGE:
"If I said it once, I'll say it a million times: I am NOT in WCF to do anyone else's job and I am sick and tired of the WCF throwing my name into matches with people beneath me. So, much like your tag partner last week, Draven, you are in the wrong place at the wrong time. I have bigger fish to fry and real battles to fight, this little match against you means absolutely nothing in the bigger picture. Do not forget, you are going to be in the same ring as the WCF Champion. You have the same chances of survival as a hurt fly in a jar with a hungry spider... And what is normal for the spider, is chaos to the fly. I may not have figured out your tag buddy Jazzy but I defeated him just as well. With you I do not need to figure you out because you have not yet figured yourself out. I know exactly who and what I am even if that may be perceived as difficult to believe to simple minded people. I am Brandi Savage hurt people for a living, Matt Draven. Physically, mentally, and emotionally, and your buddy jazzy John will attest to that. I am not here to promote my opponents moments of glory for being fortunate enough to be mentioned in the same billboard as me. No, I am here to teach you lessons in where your SPOT is. I may have been a tad careless when it came to my competition, but that is in the past and it has nothing to do with you. As you already know, you ARE in fact beneath me. I almost feel sorry for you. But not sorry enough to give you the W like I did with Bonnie. I have lived through the same song and dance with countless talentless talents. It has yet to be justified. Savage brings the fire, and Noble brings the heart. There is no way I can lose against someone like you, who lacks both. I will run spools around you inside that ring and suffocate your very existence until you call your God. I only wish that you could have been more useful to the sisters of the Circle, so the t I may bring you back to them as an offering. But you are not even worthy of stepping in the same ring as the WCF Champion, and your blood is not pure enough to be sacrificed. Lady Abernathy wants a noteworthy night? I will show her a noteworthy night... Let the fly meet the spider.”
Noble Savage rolls her eyes and walks away from the mirror, as her reflection simply stays there with an ear to ear grin, staring at her as she walks away. The scene fades to black, leaving only the glow of the eyes in the mirror.
