Noble Savage vs. Alex Richards
"Death"
Word Count: 2,866
----------------------------------------
The sounds of waves crashing against a shore side can be heard, with the faithful flow of fizz following after each splash as the water retreats.
Visually we see nothing but a black screen, but the peaceful sound of the steady wind, for some reason, lets us know it is night time by the beach. Against the black screen and sounds of the sea, we hear the voice of Noble Savage.
NOBLE:
"This is supposed to be a peaceful spot... A spot where I could come to clear my head, as I would usually do before heading to the gym and preparing for my next match... Every city we've toured has had at least one place of serenity. But this time it's difficult... This time we're in New Jersey."
The camera fades in from black and we get a view of the scene. A tall ferris wheel that is nearly hiding in the distance behind the darkness of pine trees, rotates ever so slowly. Closer to us, is a soothing darkness. A cluster of large rocks sits in the water, not too far from what looks like a bicycle path by the sidewalk.
Noble Savage is sitting on these rocks, with her feet and butt both on the surface. Her arms are hugging her knees and her chin is resting on behind her forearms, as she just looks out into the ice cold waters in front of her.
SAVAGE:
"And there's that smell again... That putrid smell..."
NOBLE:
"What are you talking about? The salt water of the ocean? Or is it the rotting seaweed at the base of these rocks?"
SAVAGE:
"No, I dunno, it's... Death, I think... But it isn't a regular death... It is more like a living death... Like, a death that is confused by its own presence... A death that proudly hides itself under the guise of limmerence."
NOBLE:
"See that? That right there is why people think I'm crazy... Because you say crazy things like that and expect others to know what you're talking about. Then they look at me like I have I How can you possibly smell all of that detail? And what in the queen's name is limmerence anyway?"
SAVAGE:
"It varies from person to person. But, just know... Lady Abernathy smells it too..."
NOBLE:
"She's not even here. She's back at the hotel with Bonnie and Alex. How can she smell anything you're smelling? And how can you even know she smells it?"
SAVAGE:
"You're nothing but questions, Noble."
NOBLE:
"And you're talking a lot nonsense. Almost as confusing as Alex Ri--
SAVAGE:
"He's not that confusing... As a matter of fact, he's anything but confusing. Easy to figure out, and gullible beyond vindication... (under her breath) Kinda glad I get to slap him around tomorro--
NOBLE:
"WHAT?!"
Noble Savage now stands up straight. Her eyes shifting side to side as her jaw slowly hangs with her mouth open. The shocked expression is quickly dismissed by a sarcastic chuckle.
SAVAGE:
"Oh don't act like you're so surprised. I checked the bulletin board and saw are match posted, I assumed you were active and saw it too."
NOBLE:
"I wasn't. But you usually let this kind of info leak into our shared memory. Why hide this one?"
SAVAGE:
"You have a weak spot for that charlatan Alex Richards. I don't! You actually like the guy. I couldn't care less! You seem to have forgotten about War! You seem to have forgotten about all the trash he was talking on Twitter about me... He was the one who outed me as Witch! Do you really believe someone like that deserves your sympathy?!"
Noble Savage shakes her head in an almost regretful manner while she looks down at the water before her.
NOBLE:
"All is fair in love and war, Savage. You know that... I know you know that. You were the one who taught it to me. So, now you want to pretend like Alex is suddenly a bad guy simply because he used my name in vain during the War times?! You're not right, Savage..."
Noble Savage turns around now and begins walking toward the beached rocks by the sand, stepping down from the boulders she was just on.
SAVAGE:
"It's too bad you don't smell it."
NOBLE:
"That smell is all in your head, Savage. If you're not gonna tell me what you're talking about, then just stop botheri--
SAVAGE:
"You know... In the old days... The ancient witches used to say, that when a person is responsible for the death of another... He or she should not attend the wake of their victim... Because the dead body would begin to bleed from the wounds inflicted, and thusly inform everyone of the culprit's presence in the process..."
NOBLE:
"What's that even mean, Savage?! Speak Clearly! You... Are worse... Than Lady Abernathy when you try to speak so cryptic... I thought Alex was confusing, but you--
SAVAGE:
"Stop saying that! He isn't confusing! That's exactly the mentality that gives him his power, don't you see? He wants people to believe he is the master of confusion, but that's just a cop out. It's a way for him to mask his short comings. And if you still don't understand what I am talking about then you need to really pay attention."
NOBLE:
"My ears are all yours... both figuratively and literally."
Noble Savage takes a deep breath, which she lets out when she hops on to the beach sand. She begins to walk, carelessly dragging her feet through to miniature dry dunes.
SAVAGE:
"Death is someone I'm very familiar with, Noble... You've met her, but I've become friends with her. I know how she operates... I know what she smells like, and I understand the diffferent types of fragrances her presence can manifest... This time around, she is confused... Most likely because her next soul to collect belongs to, none other than, the Archduke of Mass Confusion himself... Alex Richards. She is hiding within the confines of your good intention, just waiting for the right moment to strike... And that right moment, is one that you and I have been tasked to provide."
NOBLE:
"You're grasping at straws, Savage. You're just looking for excuses to hurt our fellow Guardian. I will never allow it."
SAVAGE:
"It is your limmerence that is starting to hold us back... Your limmerence is the love and admiration you have for the Time Witch... It is so strong that it has translated itself into a loyalty to the Guardians, when you and I both know that we thrive in a more secluded capacity. You hold the Guardians up high as if it were a championship, when the championship is what the Guardians seek. They don't view you as their equal... They view you as an assett, a tool... A Wrench that will help bring down the All Father. I will not trust Alex Richards, no matter how hard you try to convince me to, I will not trust him at all."
NOBLE:
"You have no possible way of backing up your claims."
SAVAGE:
"It is Alex Richards who has nothing to back up his words with. Not we... See, what I am telling you right now is actual fact... What Alex Richards tells you is merely a collection of 'what ifs' and allegations... As I mentioned just a few seconds ago, Noble, Death has arrived in WCF and she is here for someone who vehemently confuses her... Who is capable of confusing the grim reaper herself if not Alex Richards?"
NOBLE:
"So, what are you implying? What do you suggest we do?"
SAVAGE:
"That is for you to decide, Noble... Because the Witches of yesteryear have already outlined the proper guide we must follow... Now, you are letting your brain do your thinking instead of your soul... You know, deep inside, that Alex is dead weight, and there is no room in covenant of witchcraft for a pathetic glob of goo such as he... You have all the answers to your own questions, but yet you continue to ask me for guidance... as if you are expecting me to tell you anything differently than what your own natural intuition is telling you... Noble... Alex Richards has his days numbered."
Noble Savage rolls her eyes and scoffs at herself.
NOBLE:
"Alex Richards helped us defeat Odin's team at Hellimina--
SAVAGE:
"He was pinned by Odin, in the same night that Odin was pinned by me."
Noble Savage grunts and takes a deep breath.
NOBLE:
"But just last week, Alex Richards pinned Odin in the--
SAVAGE:
"And so didn't Bonnie! And so didn't I! What is that supposed to prove?! That Alex Richards is a formidable opponent, or that Odin Balfore has weaknesses?! Look, I don't care that Alex Richards defeated Odin. I trust the writing on the wall, and at this point in time, it is more than obvious that Alex Richards is the source of that insufferable smell that lingers around our every step. It is the destiny of the executioner to be constantly haunted by the stench of his offering. That foul odor of putrfying death, is following us, because death herself wants us to do her bidding... She wants us to bring an end to Alex Richards, and end her confusion... But we cannot linger... Once Alex Richards is a bloody heap of flesh and bone, we mustn't attend his wake... His wounds will reopen and inform our Lady Abernathy and the Time Witch of our actions... This burnt offering, we must give in silence, and in peace, to Death herself, without alerting the other Guardians."
Noble Savage now stops walking and looks around.
NOBLE:
"No... I won't believe it. Alex Richards may be a bit of a dope, but he is a Guardian. I will never form part of the demise of my brethren."
SAVAGE:
"But you must... I know you, Noble, better than you know yourself. And because of that, I know that you will never allow any room for errors. You and I both should eliminate the mistakes. Her Royalty, Bonnie Blue, will win the Championship from the All Father, and you... You will just have to prove that you are worthy of standing at her side. You said it yourself, at War... Alex Richards would never stand a chance against you one on one... You know Alex has been under the tutelage of The Time Witch much longer than we have, and yet he has learned NOTHING! Whereas you and I have only been at her side for about two lunar cycles and we have already learned far more than anyone... Alex Richards is the weakest link... He is the one holding Bonnie Blue back... And our love for the Time Witch is far greater than anything he has ever done... He has not yet tapped into his true potential, and he has never made use of the resources at his disposal. He got a win over Odin Balfore, and I'm sure now he thinks that means something... But Truth is, that a win over the All Father means nothing if your name isn't Bonnie Blue! We have got to make sure Bonnie's win over the All Father has an evenly matched win from us over the Archduke of Mass Confusion... It's witch's night, Noble, and Bonnie knows it... Payback's a witch!"
NOBLE:
"You seem to be forgetting who Alex Richards is, Savage. He is no joke... Yeah, you're right when you say he is not very entertaining to watch in a match, I get that, but that doesn't mean anything when compared to the level of integrity he brings to the team, and the morale boost his sheer presence serves. The fans might not remember him the next day after his matches, but Bonnie and I sure do. Whatever it is that you seem to have against him, I implore you to let it go. Please. Because Alex is not as incompetent as he seems. He is a great competitor, and even though his matches are not very entertaining to watch, he almost always comes out the victor... And in the rare ocassions when he does not win, it is usually because he intended it and had some sort of devious plan to proceed with that required the loss. The man is a mastermind, and a true architect of chaos, that's why he--
SAVAGE:
"THAT is why we must end him, Noble... Chaos and order cannot co exist... You and I we are the Soul Witch! We are Harmony incarnate, we are the cleric of balance! Balance, is order, and the opposite of order is pure chaos... Chaos, is everything that Richards represents... Confusion... Inadecuacy... Failure... You have no right to regard yourself the Cleric of Balance if you allow someone like Alex Richards to continue confusing the masses! Do you really believe the fans forget him the next day?! No, they don't! They remember him, but he simply isn't the same Alex Richards they remember! He changes more than a chameleon, and that right there is what confuses the people. You, Noble, of all people should understand that. You are capable of seeing things clearly, for what they are and not what they appear to be! So, with that same mindset, it is that I ask - nay - I DEMAND that you grow some guts and join me in putting the Archduke out of comission, and send Death away with him, so we can finally rid ourselves of this hideous stench!"
Noble Savage has now reached a set of wooden stairs that lead up to a boardwalk and away from the beach. She begins to walk up the steps, letting sand fall from within her high platform boots. Once at the top of the steps, Noble Savage looks around and takes a deep breath, then begins to walk toward the left, following the boardwalk toward a more lit area.
NOBLE:
"But what about Bonnie Blue? Huh? How do you think she will feel to see her right hand man be descimated by her head hench wench? Do you seriously believe that this wouldn't incur the wrath of the Time Witch?! Do you think she will stand idly by and watch her long time friend be demolished by me?! No, Savage, Bonnie Blue will have my head on a stick! Most possibly in a literal sense! I don't want to upset her Royalty, not now, not ever again!"
SAVAGE:
"Bonnie Blue is quite literally twice the man that Alex Richards could ever hope to be... Don't let his confusing rhetoric deviant dialogue take your thoughts away from the fact that he tried to defeat you at War, and failed."
A young man walks past Noble Savage now, and she sneers at him. He sidesteps in confusion, but shakes his head and keeps walking. Seconds later a woman walks past, and Noble Savage hisses. The woman is startled a bit and walks faster to get away. Noble Savage giggles to herself after their reactions, and it seems more people are walking around her. She is now in a crowd by some carnival rides and she seems uncomfortable. The discomfort in her face quickly lets loose and she seems more relaxed. A faint smile takes over her face as she takes a deep breath.
NOBLE:
"Alex Richards has more problems on his plate than little ol' me... I don't think he deserves the hell that I am capable of unleashing. Besides, after defeating Odin Balfore, he must be feeling on cloud nine... I don't smell the aroma of death that you smell, Savage, so it will never bother me... At Payback, I will simply be looking to give Alex Richards more of that big fight feel that he got from facing Odin, and at the end of the night, I will show him nothing but mercy. The Guardians will live on, and The Time Witch, as our champion, will be pleased... No need for the drama... We got this."
SAVAGE:
"You better pray I remain dormant during our match, Noble... Because if you slip for just one second, I will take over, and I will... End him... Good luck out there."
NOBLE:
"We are not just Noble Savage, we are Guardians. And that night, the Guardians will win. Luck isn't needed when you are in a win-win situation."
Noble Savage growls in a low tone while jerking her neck to the side. The people surrounding her all seem to notice, but they are too afraid to question what her problem is. Noble Savage shakes her head and walks on into the crowd, approaching a stand with a many duck pins and striped baseballs. She picks up one of the baseballs as she gives the attendant a five dollar bill. Noble Savage winds up, and throws the baseball at the duck pins, completely shattering the one in the center. A Cheshire grin overtakes her facial expression as she watches the dust and smoke left behind from the duck pin she just destroyed. The attendant is staring with his mouth opened in awe as the scene now fades to black.
