No, this thread isn't about the song "War" by Edwin Starr, this is all about WCF's annual PPV in September, WAR, and the very special main event match. (Although that is a damn fine song.)
Now then, for the new people asking why a PPV is getting it's own thread that's pinned to the OOC board, it's because WAR is not just a simple PPV like all the others...IT'S AN EVENT! How you ask? Great question, let me break it down!
1. The PPV will be on September 30th, 2018 (Yes, that's a Sunday and not a Monday, I know, it'll all become clear in a second) and it will have a 13 day window (September 17th - September 29th at 11:59PM EST) for RP's and for me to judge/write the PPV. Why do I need 13 days for judging and writing? Well...
2. Nearly everyone in WCF is involved in the main event match, appropriately titled the WAR Match. It's our own special little version of the Royal Rumble, except you get eliminated via pinfall or submission. It's the clusterfuckingest of all clusterfucks basically. The only people that will not be in the WAR Match are the World Champion and his opponent, who will be facing off to kick off the show.
3. The winner gets to main event One! That's right, you win WAR and not only do you get a shot at the World Title, but you also get to be one of the few to say you got to main event the most important PPV we do each year.
4. There will be surprises! Just like the Royal Rumble expect some surprise returns, whether they be for one night only or for good, people love showing up for this PPV because...
5. It's not just being posted on the boards because the entire thing goes down in a live chat! (Technically it will get posted later on for those that miss the chat or those that want to re-read it because they missed stuff). I'll be looking around to find the best chat room site out there that can handle a bunch of people and then on the night of the PPV, everyone will go to that site and chill and talk as the show is posted line by line by yours truly. It's one of the most exciting nights every year for WCF and people love the fuck out of it because they get a chance to talk with people they normally don't get a chance to talk with on a personal basis.
6. This is the first time WAR is being done by someone other than Seth! We all love and miss Seth and hope he comes back soon, but he's written 16 of these bad boys and now someone else gets the daunting task, so it's quite exciting to see how it stacks up against past WAR matches, some of which were Match Of The Year winners.
Now then, with the reasons for why WAR is special out of the way, let's get down to the specifics that will answer any questions you have:
- The World Title Match will follow the normal RP limits set for World Title Matches, nothing changes there. 2 RPs, each with a 5k Word Limit. You can do more RP's or go over the word count a little, but it will not effect judging.
- For the WAR Match, it will be 1 RP with a 5k Word Limit. I'm anticipating at least 30+ people for this match when I look at where the roster is right now and factor in returns for the match and new sign-ups between now and then. So you figure at 1 RP a piece, I'm already judging 30 RPs up against each other to figure out the winner and elimination order. Definitely not going to be doing multiple RPs for this one.
- There will be a special RP board set up for the PPV before the card goes up. All RP's, whether World Title or WAR Match related, will be posted there to make sure nobody's work gets missed.
- This match, like Ultimate Showdown, will be one of the only times that ZERO Infinity Stones will be up for grabs. The stakes are already high and trying to keep track of the movement of the stones would be impossible. Plus, you figure whoever wins WAR would end up with all 6 stones PLUS a World Title Shot at One...which is overkill as fuck.
- The TV Title will also not be on the line on this night. Yes, it is supposed to be on the line every week, but I'm diverting away from that rule only because I want to avoid making the TV Champion pull double duty (speaking as someone who had to do just that back at WAR 2009).
- As mentioned, the PPV is on September 30th. The card will go up on September 17th, at which time you can begin posting your RP's. I'm going to start writing the match around the start of the 2nd week of that period (23rd or 24th most likely). Now I'm not going to come out and say that you can't wait to post until right before deadline on the 29th, but I'm going to say that in the past those who didn't wait until the final minutes usually had the best showings in the match, what with elimination totals and time spent in the match. And don't feel like if you do wait till the end that you can't win, the best RP will win the match no matter what day it goes up, you just might not have as dominant a performance as you'd hoped.
That should answer all questions but feel free to ask below! In the meantime, enjoy this fantastic teaser graphic to get you ready!
