As you all know, I dramatically changed my characters appearance recently. I was able to explain it away Kayfabe by claiming radical plastic surgery. However, I am a person who is constantly changing things up (Note my entrance music and moveset) That being said, I'm curious as to how many of you came up with your pic bases and, is it better to have an obscure pic base that gives more credence to a unique character or is it completely okay to use a wrestlers picbase?

I was obsessed with Heath ledgers depiction of the joker. It's my favorite character in any movie ever.
As long as your character doesn't start acting like the wrestler you're using as a pic base it doesn't matter.

I have used many pic bases for Kevin Bishop... be it Dave Navarro or jimmy Jacobs or now Tommy End... For me I have a picture in my head of what character traits my character has and I go with that. It doesn't have to be a wrestler, just someone who looks like the person you believe your character to look like. I liked having Tommy End because he is a hell of a wrestler and he's amazing on the indys, so that's a trait I believe in the Plague as well.

I think using non wrestlers is fun, hence Justin Timberlake and Jay Pharaoh/Donald Glover.

Actually, a lot of my features are in my character. I originally wasn't going to have a base. But when I was making Damian, it occurred to me.. "this guy sounds a hell of a lot like Brian Kendrick.* And hence my claim is Kendrick.

never used a wrestler for a pic base
first pic base for Freezer Burn : Gary Busey but changed to Nick Nolte around 98-99, then switched to Till Lindeman when I joined WCF. As a rule of thumb for myself, I stuck to the picbase I started with. So even though there was a year-long transition,if I started with a Gary Busey pic base, it stayed until I was no longer in that fed. The pic may change, but the identity of the person in the pic stayed the same. That's just me though. So for awhile I was in different feds with different pic bases until certain feds closed and I started elsewhere with the new base.

Shepard was a new character when we arrived here. Before that my character was always Jaymz and I used Marv from Sin City as my pic base.

When I used a computer I used Kane, but when I had to use my last phone was gonna use some green colored looking dude, but couldn't format my phone. So my profile pic went "invisible" or "naked" now someone made my new profile pic.

I have an idea of what I see physically in a character. Such as Gonzo, who's first thing you probably notice facially is the fact that he's balding and seemingly has permastubble going on. Jason Statham was the obvious choice. With Game, I wanted a cherubic and fresh look with a beard. That, and a face most people just wanna punch. Wil Wheaton was an obvious choice.
And the list just goes on and on. I point towards a general characteristic and base my pic bases on such...

12 years ago when I started e-fedding, I had a basic idea of Lucious (Shadow Starr, at the time) having a long, silver mane, bigger build but not too muscular, etc.
I started using Spike from the Buffy TV series; he was about the look but with shorter hair, and I took the compromise. After a while, I jumped to another fed. They preferred ACTUAL wrestler pic bases for card images, so I went with (a surprisingly unused yet) Edge. Went through a character change when I storyline heel turned, and went through maybe 6 different character bases (including, but not limited to, Vampiro, Jeff Hardy and Crazy J- yes, THAT Crazy J) before SOMEHOW landing on Criss Angel. And his picbase has been Angel ever since.
Wilds started as Apolo Ohno. I saw an Olympic ad w Ohno once and his face and build SCREAMED Wilds. After a while, I changed it to Gregory "Hurricane" Helms, and it stayed that way. I tried Christian Kane for a few weeks because (the TV show) Leverage, but the build was off so I went back to Helms.

When I decided to go "Magnificent" I changed his pic base to Adam copeland. Then I thought I would rather have someone out of wrestling so Jenson Ackles was my choice because my other choice, Neil Patrick Harris, well, just couldn't see him as a wrestler. All this being said, this is my first time using a pic base so I am developing as a go along.

I noticed that you used Statham as your initial pic base, and it would not have stopped me from using same pic base. I probably would've even prompted you for some sort of segment where we run into each other and we comment about how similar we look alike to each other, or the exact opposite. Eh, what if...

I wanted something striking, and the round red glasses are just a very piercing image. Plus it gives me alot of photoshop credibility since I can put them on anyone I want and it represents Blaze lol.
In my head it's like a virus that's slowly infecting things, the fans are slowly starting to wear red glasses and what-not.
