I'll be staying there for about six months starting in September. I'll be attending a conductor training school, but I am really hoping to have time to explore the place. I'd love to see Mt. St. Helens, the coast, endulge in the local Indy music (PLEASE COME BACK MIRAH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD), do some rail fanning, maybe see 4449 & 700, and pretty much anything else even remotely interesting. Hell, I'll go to a big mall if there is one, eat at family owned restaurants, anything I can do to take full advantage of my visit. I've always wanted to see the Pacific Northwest, especially the forested Rockies. So is anyone here from there, or have you been there before? I want ideas and recommendations on stuff to do! Also, is it cold over there? I expected it to be cold, but apparently it never snows there? Is this true?

My best friend from the Army was from around the Portland area.
I have two words that he relayed and then brought back from Portland that was awesome...
VOODOO DONUTS!
If you were over 21, I'd mention a few microbrewery beers to also sample, but that would be totally irresponsible of me to do...

Voodoo Donuts are a donut shop that makes all sorts of different varieties of donuts. Ever had a donut with Fruit Loops? How about a Peanut Butter and Bacon donut? Voodoo will probably have those. And they're fucking awesome!!!

I drink soda and grape juice, that's about it. Instead of being surrounded by beer swilling rednecks, I'll be surrounded by latte chugging basic white girls, and I don't like coffee. It's the sacrifices of a lifestyle of being a picky prude.

A lot of kool aid/iced tea. Pretty much anything besides plain water. Arizona Iced Tea is pretty much my life. |
