“I believe in America because we have great dreams and because we have the opportunity to make those dreams come true.” ~Wendell L. Wilkie
After Vengeance left the cemetery he returned home washed the paint off his face changed into a t-shirt and basketball shorts and went to bed. Chris was already sleeping for the night. The following day Harley woke up before Chris and decided to head into town and grab some breakfast from a local restaurant. He walked down the hallway to the front door reached down with his right hand and turned the knob to the left while pushing the door open, he walked through and closed it behind him. Harley made the short walk to the drive way where his black 2014 Chevy Tahoe sat. The reached down with his right hand and pulled the keys out of his pocket and pressed the door unlock button and climbed in the driver’s seat.
He started the Tahoe and placed the shifter in drive and took of down the road to a local restaurant. This restaurant wasn’t just your typical restaurant. It had been run by the same people for the past 40 years. Harley’s parents visited this place called Ma and Pa’s Country cooking restaurant several times a week including having morning coffee every day. The owners of the restaurant were in there seventies now and were close friends with Harley’s parents, so close they were actually Harley’s god parents. Harley hasn’t visited the restaurant since he spent his vacation with his parents in 2011. After about a ten minute drive Harley finally pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant and parked in a parking space that was facing the building.
Harley turned off his Tahoe and sat there. He looked inside one of the large glass windows the small white painted building had. As he was looking around the inside of the restaurant he noticed behind the long wooden counter stood Larry and Joanne. Larry and Joanne were the owners and his god parents. Mixed emotions flooded Harley’s mind. He was scared, he was nervous, and he was also a little excited. It has been almost three years since he last spoke to them at his parents funeral and hasn’t kept up with them like he should have which also made he feel a little bad. As he sat there staring at them behind the counter making conversation with a few of the locals he knew he needed to speak with them.
Harley sat in his Tahoe for a few more minutes. He didn’t know how this conversation would go. He didn’t know what he would say. Would they be excited to see him? Would they be upset since it has been three years? He knew he should have done a better job in keeping in touch with them. There was only one way to find out how they felt, and that was to go inside and see what their reaction would be to see him walk through the door for the first time in five years. He ran his fingers thought his hair pulled it back and placing it in a ponytail. He took a deep breath and slowly exhaled as he opened the driver’s door and stepped out.
Harley took another deep breath as he closed the door to his Tahoe. His nervous were starting to build as he slowly made the walk to the front door of the restaurant. The closer to the front door he got the more nervous he became. As he reached the front door he stopped. He took another deep breath to try and clear his nervous. He again looked inside and saw Larry and Joanne standing behind the counter wearing black polo shirts with the restaurants logo and jeans. They were smiling seemly having good conversation with some of the local people sitting at the counter. He reached down with his right and pulled the door open. Opening the door caused a bell to ring inside the restaurant
Joanne: Welcome to Ma and Pa’s Country cooking restaurant, please take…..Oh My god.
Joanne was overcome by excitement when she saw Harley walking through the door. Joanne’s excitement got the attention of Larry. Joanne ran from behind the counter and wrapped her arms Harley giving him a hug. Harley hugged Joanne back and felt his nervousness goes away. Larry walked out from behind the counter and shook Harley’s hand. Joanne insisted on giving Harley a table and he agreed and all three of them sat down to talk.
Larry: How have you been?
Harley Rhodes: I have had my ups and downs. But overall I have been doing well.
Joanne: You know we have missed you, I wish you would come around more.
Harley smiled as he felt a sense of happiness.
Harley Rhodes: I have missed you guys to; I should have done a better job seeing you. I have been coming back home a lot more recently, but I haven’t been in the right state of mind to visit anyone. I have had a lot of emotions running through my mind the past few weeks.
Larry shook his head as he seemly understood.
Larry: Why didn’t you come to us? We have always been here for you? You’re more than welcome to come in here, or even come to the house we don’t mind, we would actually enjoy spending time with you. We are always one phone call away. Tell us what’s going on maybe we can help.
Joanne shook her head up and down in agreement to what Larry said.
Harley Rhodes: Well you both knew my parents very well. You know how patriotic my father was; he loved this country almost as much as he loved his family. He will never see me win the one belt that he thought was greater than all the rest. It sucks it really does. I feel like I don’t have a choice, I have to win this Sunday.
Larry: I don’t want to put any added pressure on you kid, But that Mikey Extreme is a very disrespectful man. Your father would have hated him so much. He doesn’t represent this country at all. The things he says are so offensive to people like us. The wrestling world needs someone who respects the country, they need someone who can be a true American hero, they need someone who can bring respect back to that belt, that man isn’t Mikey Extreme, that man is you, it’s in your blood.
Harley gave Larry a shocked look. He had no clue they watched WCF.
Harley Rhodes: You guys actually watch WCF?
Joanne and Larry both smiled.
Joanne: Of course we do. We made a promise to your parents a long time ago that if anything would happen to them we would be here for you. We watch you every week. Larry is right you need to take that United States title away from that Mikey Extreme. I just don’t like him. He lies all the time and ugh, I just can’t stand him.
Harley laughs at Joanne’s response.
Harley Rhodes: I completely agree with you. Mikey Extreme is everything that is wrong with this country. He lies worse than any politician in this country. Everything that he says is a lie. He lives in this fantasy land that he calls Mikey’s America and it’s all a big delusion I get it. I don’t believe in telling lies and being delusional. Everything that I have said and have been nothing but reality. This country needs someone like that. They need a new hero, someone for the kids to look up too. I won’t change who I am for anyone.
Every time I have spoken about Mikey Extreme I have warned him. I have warned him that he should just hand the belt over to me. It would be in his best interest to quit before Timebomb I promise you that. Everything that he has said about me and all the disrespect he has shown this country calling it his. I’m not letting that go, that just feeds fuel into this fire that I have to become champion once again, it feeds fuel to the fire that I have to show the world Vengeance will no longer be over looked.
The only thing Extreme about Mikey is his ability at embarrassing himself. He is an embarrassment to WCF and to this country. As much as he pretends like he knows who I am he really has no clue. The life of Vengeance has been kept secret for a long time. And now, I am no longer going to hide anything. The WCF fans want to know about Vengeance. I have no problems letting everyone see the true me. It proves to the world that Vengeance is just better than the fantasy called Mikey Extreme.
Larry and Joanne both smile
Larry: Sounds like you are pretty confident kid. I know you can beat him. We will be cheering for you. How about something to eat? It’s on the house.
Harley smiled.
Harley Rhodes: Sure, I’ll have some bacon, eggs, sausage, and toast.
Joanne: Scrambled eggs, right?
Harley Rhodes: You haven’t forgotten anything have you?
Joanne smiled and left the table. She walked to the back and cooked Harley his breakfast. Larry padded Harley on the back and left the table to get some work around the restaurant done while Joanne was cooking food. Harley played on his smart phone for about ten minutes, than Joanne brought his food to the table. Harley took his time eating breakfast and looking at this smart phone. When he finished eating he stood up from the table and was met by Larry and Joanne before leaving.
Harley Rhodes: It was great seeing you guys again. Thank you for breakfast.
Joanne: You’re more than welcome. You know you can come in here anytime and we will feed you.
Harley smiled
Harley Rhodes: Thanks, Joanne I really appreciate it.
Larry put his left hand on Harley’s left shoulder.
Larry: I have something to tell you kid.
Harley Rhodes: What?
Larry looked at Joanne and Joanne looked back at Larry. They both smiled.
Larry: We bought tickets to Timebomb.
Harley’s eyes lit up in shock.
Harley Rhodes: You did what?
Larry: We bought tickets to Timebomb. We fly out on Friday morning. Not only did we buy tickets but we bought VIP tickets. We will be there front row at ringside for your match this Sunday. We knew how much it meant for you parents to be there for every title win you had. Since they can’t physically be there, we will be. I cannot wait to see that look on your face when you become the new United States Champion. Do us all proud kid.
Harley smiled and hugged Larry. He felt overjoyed that they would be coming to the pay per view this Sunday.
Harley Rhodes: Thank you. I will bring you back stage after the match is over so we can call spend time together. You guys really have made my day I couldn’t say thank you enough. I feel like I am in the right state of mind finally and I’m ready for this. I won’t let you guys down, you have my word.
All three of them hugged each other as Harley turned around and walked out the front door of the restaurant. He slowly walked to the parking lot before finally reaching his Black Tahoe. He turned around and looked at the restaurant one more time and smiled. He knew he had made the right choice to go there for breakfast and he was happy to have Larry and Joanne back into his life. He decided to make it a point either to visit or call them each week from here on out. Harley pulled the keys from his right pocket and unlocked the driver’s door. He reached up with his right hand and opened the door.
After climbing inside the Tahoe he started it. He placed the shifter in drive and drove out of the parking lot and headed back to his house. After the 10 minute drive he pulled into the drive way and placed the shifter in park and shut the Tahoe off. He looked around to see if he could see Chris anywhere and he noticed Chris was in the pole building working out. Harley climbed out of the Tahoe and shut the driver’s door. He pushed the lock button on his key pad and placed the keys back in his right pocket. He walked in the pole building as Chris left the door open since the temperatures here in the 50’s for the day. Chris noticed Harley walking through the door and stopped working out.
Chris: Well look who it is. Where the hell have you been?
Harley Rhodes: I went to see Larry and Joanne down at the restaurant.
Chris gives a slightly confused look.
Chris: They own Ma and Pa’s Country Cooking right?
Harley shook his head up and down in agreement.
Harley Rhodes: They are also my godparents. I haven’t seen them since 2013, and I thought it would be a good idea to stop in and see them since I visited my parents this week too. They treat me like their own kid I don’t know what I let it go so long without talking to them. That was stupidity on my part.
Chris: How did that conversation go? Where they ok with that?
Harley shook his head up and down.
Harley Rhodes: Yeah it actually went better than I thought. I was nervous walking in the door but that quickly went away when Joanne ran up to me and hugged me. I found out they haven’t stopped watching me wrestle every week either. We had a nice conversation, I got some free breakfast, then when I was about to leave they surprised me and told me they bought ringside seats for Timebomb. They knew how much my parents loved being there, and they knew how much it meant to me seeing them at ringside when I won both my titles in 2013. I was actually shocked when they told me that.
But know that I have had a little bit of time to go over anything in my head, everything that I have done while we have been back in here in Iowa has helped me clear my mind so much. I actually feel like I’m myself again, I feel like I’m finally ready to move forward and do what I set out to do when I returned to this company and that was make Vengeance a house hold name again by becoming champion. Everything is finally falling into place like it should have. WCF has put me through a long hard road to earn a title shit this Sunday, but I can sit here and honestly tell you I think everything they put me through was for the best.
There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that I needed a fire lit under me when I returned last year. My return wasn’t actually the greatest thing in the world. Everyone started writing Vengeance off, everyone expected me to lose each and every week. Then something finally clicked. I sat back and watch people get opportunity after opportunity all while I was being ignored. That made me feel desperate. When someone feels desperate they will do desperate things. I felt like I was over looked. But the reality to it all it was just building Vengeance back up from the ground.
It has been a long, slow, and painful build. I will be the first person to tell you that, that is the reality. Now it’s time for the world to see Vengeance fly like he can. It’s time for him to become champion once again. This is going to happen Chris everyone knows it, there isn’t a damn thing that anyone can do about it now. Even Mikey Extreme in all his fantasy that he lives inside his head will be facing reality at Timebomb. He is finally going to face the reality that is Vengeance and he will face the reality that Vengeance is going to take away the one thing he loves so dearly.
Mikey you really need to be real with yourself for the first time in your life. This isn’t some made up story that you like to tell in you promo’s every week. This isn’t some fantasy America that your dark lords live. None of that matters anymore Mikey, everything you say is a lie. You have told nothing but lies since your career has started. I honestly have no clue how the hell you are still the United States Champion, wait, yes I do know, they protected you for some odd reason. Your WCF protection contract looks to be expired, bad news for you, reality for the rest of the world.
The fact you can honestly tell people you are so great, and you are the main event of each show is actually laughable. You were protected Mikey, Hello Mikey, This is reality calling you. Protection is something that you need. You know you can’t beat Vengeance, and now there is no one there to protect you anymore, your time is up. I tired really hard not to hate you Mikey, damn it I tried, but the fact that you live in this fantasy delusional world makes you say things that are embarrassing. You are an embarrassment Mikey, everyone hates you, and America hates you. I cannot wait to hear the excuse you are going to try and feed the world when you are absolutely destroyed by Vengeance.
Harley starts shaking his head left to right as anger was building inside.
Chris: Whoa, you ok man?
Harley Rhodes: Yeah I’m good, it just all the lies he tells it’s starting to piss me off. At least if you’re going to lie be halfway good at it. That stupid fuck isn’t even on Vengeance’s level, why can’t he just face reality for the first time in his life? Why do people always have to learn the hard way? I guess if you enjoy getting your ass beat by Vengeance and getting that title taken away from you, more power to you Mikey, oh wait, All hail Mikey’s bullshit. This is all reality Mikey. Let me speak a little more reality for you Mikey. You pride yourself on Brooklyn, New York don’t you? I have any problems of someone being proud of where they come from. Hell you can ask anyone that knows me I am more than proud coming from the cornfields of Iowa.
But the difference between you and I is that people actually are proud of me. These people actually stand behind me and support me. They watch me on TV and they buy my merchandise. What about the people from Brooklyn Mikey? Do they support you? Do they stand behind you? What have you done for the people of that city? I’m guessing you haven’t done a damn thing. Actually don’t answer that question, all you would do is feed us some more of Mikey’s bullshit. Here is what I am going to do. This afternoon I will be flying to Brooklyn, New York. I am going to expose you Mikey.
I’m am going to expose you by showing the world just how much the American people that love in Brooklyn, New York actually hate you. I want to show the world how you have failed at your own nickname, “Your American Hero”. The people of your city need a new hero. Someone who will actually tell them the truth, someone who will fight for them, someone who they can be proud of. Vengeance is that person. Every true American loves a good fight just look at the ratings for wrestling and MMA. This country loves violence inside a ring. Violence is what Vengeance does.
Violence, Mikey, that is going to be the key word come Sunday night. Violence, that very word Vengeance has made a career out of. Violence is what people want to see when they see Mikey Extreme vs Vengeance. Violence is what the great state of Iowa wants. Violence is what the city of Brooklyn wants, and Violence is what this country wants. You don’t care about these people do you? You don’t care about anyone but yourself. I am warning you Mikey what you have seen outside of the ring from me isn’t a sign of weakness.
I came home and got my mind right. The state of Vengeance’s mind hasn’t changed, won’t change, and never will change. He will walk into Timebomb the same dark, violent, determined person he always has been. This match means so much more to him than it does you Mikey. This very match is will be the next stepping stone to sling shot the career of Vengeance. This long hard road has finally reached its end and at the end is a ring ready for a celebration. Make no doubt about it, after you are destroyed once again at the hands of Vengeance, and he raises that United States title over your laid out body the first words that come out of his mouth is I told you so, I fucking told you so.
Harley ended his angry rant, turned around, and walked out of the pole building. He walked across the driveway to the front door of his house. He reached down with his right hand and turned the knob to the left while pushing open the door. He walked through closing the door behind him. He walked down the hallway to his bedroom and started packing his bag for the trip to Brooklyn and Texas. Chris locked up the pole building and came into the house. He took a quick shower and changed clothes. He dressed in his typical black suit, white shirt, blue tie. He already has his bags backed for the trip. Harley carried his suitcase to the living where he met Chris. He looked at Chris and shook his head.
Harley Rhodes: Do you ever wear anything else besides a suit?
Chris smiled and decided he would give a smart ass comment back.
Chris: Do you ever wear anything else besides a Vengeance shirt and basketball shorts?
Harley let out a small laugh and smiled
Harley Rhodes: Nothing like self-promotion, plus it’s comfortable.
Chris: Yeah I guess so, so much more important than looking professional right?
Chris smiled as Harley give him a dirty look.
Harley Rhodes: So that’s how it’s going to be? You’re extremely funny!
They both laughed.
A few minutes later a yellow crown Victoria taxi cab pulled into the drive way and honked the horn. Chris had called the cab company before he took a shower. Chris grabbed his suitcase and walked out the front door. Harley walked back down the hallway and took one last look at the picture of his parents he had hanging in his office. He stared at the picture for a few seconds than smiled. He turned around and walked back to the living room and grabbed his suitcase. He carried it outside and locked the front door.
The taxi cab driver already had the trunk opened so they could put their suitcases in. Chris and Harley set the suitcases in the trunk and Harley slammed the drink lid. Harley opened the driver’s side rear door and got in, and shut the door. Chris did the same thing on the passenger’s side rear door. The cab driver was an elder man slowly backed out of the driveway and drove off down the road. The country soon turned into city and they shortly arrived at the private jet entrance at the airport. Chris and Harley both climbed out of the back seat. Harley paid the driver. They grabbed their suit cases out of the opened drunk and Chris shut the trunk lid. They slowly made the hundred yard walk to the private jet.
The sun was shining in the clear Iowa sky. It was actually warm with temperatures in the lower 50’s which was unusual thing for this time of year. As Harley and Chris made there walk to the private jet, Harley looked around the airport. It was fairly busy for being a weekday. Planes coming and going, people coming home from vacations, people heading out for vacations. As they reached the private jet the door was already open. Chris climbed the stairs and went inside. He took of his suit jacket and laid it across the black leather chair next his seat, and he sat down. Harley took one last look around the airport He looked up to the sky and pointed as if he was saying hello to his parents. He slowly climbed inside the plane and sat his suitcase down. He walked over and sat next to Chris. They decided to watch a couple Will Ferrell movies during the flight.
The pilot walked out of the cockpit as all of his preflight checks were compete. He nodded and Harley and Chris as he was closing the door they did the same in return. After the door was shut the pilot returned to the cockpit and started the small private jets engines. The pilot radioed air traffic control and told them they were ready for take-off and they were cleared to do so. The plane left the parking spot and reached the run way. The pilot pushed the plane to full throttle and speed off down the runway taking flight into the clear afternoon Iowa Sky. The flight last about two and half hours and was mostly smooth as the pilot started to descend the plane and a few minutes later they landed at the LaGuardia airport. The pilot parked the plane and walked out of the cockpit to open the plane door.
Harley stood up and stretched. He reached down with his left and picked up his suit case and climbed off the plane. Chris stood up and put his suit jacket back on and buttoned it up. He placed his laptop back in his suitcase and zipped it up. He picked his suitcase up with his right hand and walked down the stairs of the airplane. They walked through the airport and reached an area outside that was lined with taxi cabs. Harley looked at all the taxi cabs and was shocked. He thought there was probably more taxi cabs in this line then the whole state of Iowa had. They found a yellow Chevy impala driven by a younger Indian man.
Harley Rhodes: Hey man, can you take us to The Marriott hotel by the Brooklyn Bridge?
The Indian man looked at Harley and his eyes lit up as he was shocked to see how big he was. He quickly became nervous and tried to speak in his heavy Indian accent.
Indian cab driver: Yes..Yes…um…Yes I can.
Harley Rhodes: Awesome can you pop the trunk so we can throw our suitcases in?
The Indian cab driver shook his head up and down in agreement. He reached over to the glove box and opened it. He pushed the trunk release button and shut the glove box. Harley and Chris set their suitcases inside the trunk and Chris shut the lid. Harley opened the passenger side rear door and got in closing the door behind him. Chris did the same on the driver’s side rear door. The driver slowly left the line of taxi cabs and drove into the city. Harley and Chris stared out the window during the whole trip which seemly took forever. Traffic seemed to be moving at a snail’s pace and the amount of people walking the side walk was unreal too them.
Harley Rhodes: Would you look at all the people. This is unreal. I have been in plenty of big cities but I always forget how busy this place is and the amount of people that decide to live here. This is unreal. I think there is more people walking on this side walk than in the whole state of Iowa combined. You got to give it to them though, this is just crazy.
Chris smiled.
Chris: Yeah well you know it’s the city that never sleeps. They all chose to live here for a reason, it must not be that bad.
Harley shook his head left and right as he disagreed with Chris.
Harley Rhodes: You are wrong Chris. There is something bad about this city as a whole. That problem is Mikey not Extreme. He gives this city a bad name. He has never and will never do anything for this city or its people. This city has been through a lot of the years. They had to watch the worst attack on American soil in history. I remember that day like it was yesterday and I will never forget watching the people run away from the towers in complete horror, I will never forget watching the tears roll down their faces. I couldn’t image living here let alone living here during that time. America needed someone to stand up and become there new hero, this city needed that someone. Mikey Extreme was here and he failed to be that person. He failed this country and this city. He failed the people, he failed all these people.
He made a choice in that moment to ignore what this country needed most. He ignored everyone. I sat there in my living room watching this all unfold on TV and listening to my parents argue as my father wanted to relist in the marines as he knew we would soon return to war. I learned a lot from that moment and learned a lot from my father. This country still needs a hero and Vengeance is ready to be that hero. These people don’t want to be ignored, these people deserve better, and those people deserve better then Mikey Extreme. Sadly everyone who has stepped up to take that title away from him and stand up and be the new American hero for this country has failed. Vengeance will not fail. Vengeance cannot fail.
Vengeance will not fail these people, he will not fail this country. Failure is not an option. You know everything that I’m telling you Mikey is completely true. You know I speak reality while you continue to live in your fantasy life. As the hours click down until Timebomb the nervous inside your body are building. For the first time maybe in your life you know this night will not end well for you. You put on a pretend face and tell the world that you can beat Vengeance, but you and I both know that is not true is it? There is nothing wrong with speaking a little bit of reality. These people already hate you enough. Telling them the truth for once in your life might help you. But help isn’t something you want is it?
That word help. It is such an ugly word to so many people. Many people feel embarrassed to ask for help. There is no shame in it Mikey. There is no shame in asking for help. This is something you need to do but you won’t. You won’t ask for help until it’s too late. That time is coming for you. Watch the hours tick down Mikey. Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick help is waiting for your call. Listen to my reality ask for help before it’s too late. Save yourself, save yourself for your family. Save yourself Mikey, no one can help you now. Everything is crashing down around you Mikey, and you soon will join in and fall to the hands of Vengeance.
Harley ended his rant as anger was starting to build inside him. Chris didn’t say a word he knew saying anything would only bring more anger out of Harley. The taxi ride to the hotel took over in hour due to heavy traffic on the streets as the time was mid-afternoon. They finally reached the hotel. Cars could be seen coming and going from the hotel as they had to wait in line for a parking spot for a few minutes. After finally parking Chris decided he would pay the driver. The driver reached his right hand over and opened the glove book pressing the trunk release button opening the trunk. They both climbed out of the back seat and closed the doors. Harley and Chris each grabbed their suitcases out of the trunk and Harley closed the trunk lid. The taxi driver sped off down the street.
As Harley and Chris took a couple steps towards the hotel they were greeted by a male who was one of the Hotels employees. The hotel employee noticed the Vengeance shirt Harley was wearing and smiled at him. Harley smiled back at him. The male employee opened the door and they walked inside the lobby. The inside of the lobby was fairly large and beautiful for a hotel which wasn’t surprising given were they were. Chris walked up to the counter and checked them in and got room keys. They got rooms next to each other. After receiving the room keys they walked towards the elevator. Chris reached down with his right hand and pressed the up button with his right index finger. The elevator doors opened and they walked inside. Chris reached down with his right hand again pressing the tenth floor button with his right index finger.
The elevator slowly climbed each floor giving off a loud beep each floor it passed. It finally reached the tenth floor. The doors opened as Harley and Chris climbed walked off and took a right. They walked halfway down the hallway before reaching their rooms. Harley and Chris both swiped there room keys as the doors unlocked they pushed them open. They walked into their separate rooms to get settled in for their overnight stay. The rooms were medium sized nothing too fancy, but they both had a view over the city. Harley stood at the window and stared. He looked at all the large sized sky scrapers the city had to offer and he was impressed. Even though they visit large cities week after week he really never took the time to look out the window and just watch the city work.
As Harley was staring at the window he felt his pocket vibrate which startled him. He shook his and reached down with his right hand and pulled his smart phone out of his pocket. He unlocked it as it read one new text message from Chris. He pressed on the touch screen to open the message which read “what are you doing?” Harley smiled and shook his head from left to right as he found it funny that Chris would text him instead of walking five feet to his door and knocking. Harley texted him back “I’m standing here looking out the window. Why don’t you just come over?” A few seconds later his phone vibrated again. Harley once again unlocked his phone and pushed on the touch screen to look at the text message from Chris which read “ok” Harley smiled once again and locked his phone putting it back into his pocket.
A few minutes later there was a knock at his door. Harley blinked and turned around from the window. He slowly walked to the door and looked through the small eye glass hole to see who it was. He saw Chris standing near the door looking down the hallway. Harley decided it would be funny and not answer the door. Chris again pounded on the door. Harley again ignored him. Once more Chris pounded on the door and Harley decided to open it. Once the door was open Chris threw up his hands at Harley because he felt he took too to open the door.
Chris: What took you so long?
Harley smiled and laughed.
Harley Rhodes: Nothing I was standing here looking out this little hole watching you. Thought it was funny.
Chris shook his head as he didn’t find it as funny. Once Chris came into the room they both sat at the small table inside Harley’s hotel room which as near the window. Chris looked out the window for a few seconds to watch the city work. Chris looked back from the window and looked at Harley who was also staring out the window. He noticed Chris staring at him out of the corner of his left eye and looked back at Chris. Harley gave squinted his eyes and give him a confused look as he was unsure why Chris was staring at him. Chris continued to stare and Harley decided to ask why.
Harley Rhodes: Why are you staring at me? I don’t swing that way.
Chris laughed and shook his head from right to left.
Chris: Neither do I, I was staring at you because I want to know something. I want you to be completely honest with me. Just me and you this doesn’t leave this room if you don’t want it to. Actually I have a couple of questions for you.
Harley took a breath in and slowly blew it out as he knew Chris was about to ask something serious.
Harley Rhodes: Sure, what do you want to know?
Chris sighed as he quickly become nervous.
Chris: Maybe it’s not a good idea, never mind.
Harley quickly shook his head left to right.
Harley Rhodes: No, you wanted to ask something ask it. I will answer it.
Chris: Are you sure? I don’t want to make you mad at me or anything like that.
Harley give a confused look to Chris.
Harley Rhodes; Alright, I won’t get mad at you. You wanted to ask a question, so ask it.
Chris sighed
Chris: Why did you leave WCF in 2013? You were at the top of your game. Why would you just walk out on your career like that?
Harley looked down at the floor and sighed. He wasn’t proud of walking out. He wasn’t in favor in answering that question. He looked back at Chris and decided to answer it anyways.
Harley Rhodes: You want to know why I decided to walk out of WCF at the peak of my career. You want me to give you a straight up honest answer? You want the reality of it. That’s a fair question, I’m sure a lot of people want to know why I walked out of this company right when I was hitting my peak, right when I was hitting my stride. I had everything going for me. I had titles, I had Rebellion, I had money, and I had power, why would I walk out on the company during that time. The answer really isn’t a simple one, hell maybe I can’t even give you a good answer. I’m willing to try though. It make not make sense to you or anyone else, but at the time it made sense to me. As you are fully aware it was probably the biggest mistake of my life for so many different reasons.
I think prior to winning those titles, I wasn’t completely happy with who I was. I wanted to do so many different things, and wanted to go so many different directions I think it ate me up inside. My mind ran in so many directions I felt like I could never have a clear thought. That force me to not feel like myself and eventually made me feel like I was depressed when I shouldn’t have been. I was on top of the world I should have been the happiest person in the world. It’s not easy to be a dual title holder. You have double the targets on your back. I don’t know maybe that’s what made my mind run in different directions, maybe I wasn’t ready to be in the position that I was in.
But being depressed is a dark place to be in. This is why I called Mikey Extreme out on his bullshit about being dark. In his fantasy mind he believes that the dark lords that aren’t real and who are made up in his mind make him a dark person. I have never seen Mikey do one dark thing in his life. He has never been at that ultimate low. He has never felt the way I did. That was all reality. That shit was real now some fantasy mind game. You can only take so much before you finally lose your mind. This is what I warned Mikey about. I didn’t ask for help, no one helped me. So I walked out, I felt alone, I felt depressed, I felt like the whole world was against me. Then a few weeks later my parents were killed in a car accident. How much darker can you get?
Explain that to me. Mikey Extreme has never even been close to what that feels like. That was the ultimate low in my life. That would be for anyone. I didn’t ask for help and it almost ruined my career. That time in my life it changed who I was mentally. When you hold your feelings in for so long, your mind does funny things to you. As I get older the more I have become accepting to the fact that I don’t need to hide everything. These people want to the life story of the man behind Vengeance. They want to know what makes him click. Why does he have moments of being dark? Why does he enjoy violence? There is so many questions that have been answered and will be continued to be answered. I feel like I don’t need to hide who I truly am anymore. These people are starting to accept Harley and they are starting to accept Vengeance.
Chris runs his fingers through his hair. He had no idea that Harley had hit a low point in his life before his parents died that caused him to walk out of WCF.
Chris: Why didn’t you just call me?
Harley looked at Chris with a straight face.
Harley Rhodes: I didn’t want to call anyone. I didn’t want to open my feelings up. I didn’t want people to think I needed help. I was too prideful to ask for something like that. Looking back at it now it was the worst thing that I have ever done in my life. Yeah sure, as Vengeance I tend to get a little crazy sometimes, I can be dark, I can be dangerous, but that isn’t all Vengeance is. Vengeance is a side of me that goes out there week after week and preforms for every hardworking person who pays to come to the arena or to watch me on TV. I am lucky to be able to feel and do everything like that. I can change and adapt to any situation as it presents to me. Do I need to be a violent person to prove or make a point? I can do that. Do I need to be a little crazy to get what I want? I can do that too. Do I need to dig down deep and be a dark person to get in the minds of the people who face me? I also can do that.
That face paint is what makes Vengeance. Harley Rhodes is just a normal person, like anyone else in this country, there is nothing special about him. But Vengeance, he is one of a kind. He is someone you want to tune into every week and watch. Nothing is ever the same when you have so many bags to dig into. This is why the WCF and this country needs a champion like Vengeance. Mikey Extreme proves every week he is everything that is wrong with this country. If he was president there would be no doubt in my mind he would be impeached in the first week he took office. Unfortunately for him things in WCF don’t work that easily and he will be finding out the hard way at TimeBomb. I guess you could call it an unofficial painful impeachment as the United States champion, courtesy of the congress of Vengeance.
Chris shook his head up and down with what Harley had to say. Chris still had one more question to ask.
Chris: So, I have one more question to ask you. I really need to know something. Are you sure you are one hundred percent? Like are you the same Vengeance you were from a few weeks ago? Basically what I am saying, are you in the right state of mind? I want to know, I have to know. The last few weeks have been rough and I want to make sure you are going out there and giving everything you in this title match.
Harley smiled as he had a clear mind once again.
Harley Rhodes: I can honestly tell you that I am. I feel better than I have in a long time. I look forward to standing there above Mikey Extreme with the United States title raised above my head. My music blasting of the arena’s PA system. I cannot wait to climb out of the ring and give Larry and Joanne the big hugs. I feel confident more confident than ever. This will be a tough match but Mikey Extreme is simply not on the same level and it is time for him to move on. Sorry buddy game over.
Chris smiled as he felt confident in Harley’s answer and he also felt good about the odds this Sunday. The sun was starting to set at the end of their conversation. They decided to order room service for dinner. They both looked at the room service menu that was provided in the hotel rooms. Chris called down to the restaurant and he ordered a ribeye steak with a baked potatoes. Harley decided to get a double cheese burger and fries which also ordered for Harley. It took around thirty minutes for the food to arrive. Chris decided to watch the news on TV while Harley played games on his smart phone. After the food arrived they both sat at the table and ate their dinner for the night. They both agreed the food was actually good considering it was made by a hotel restaurant.
After they finished eating Chris called back down to the restaurant for someone to come up and take the food cart back downstairs. A few minutes later there was as knock at the door from a restaurant employee. Chris opened the door and let them in. They grabbed the food cart and left the room. Chris decided he would go back to his room as it was getting late.
Chris left Harley’s room and returned to his. He went to bed a short time later. Harley wasn’t tired and decided to go for a walk and explore the area around the hotel. Harley grabbed a backpack that he had inside his suitcase and placed it on his back with a strap over his right shoulder. Harley opened his hotel room door and walked down the hallway. He reached the elevator reaching down with his right hand and pressing the down button with his right index finger. He stood there and waited for a few seconds before the elevator beeped and the doors opened. He walked inside reached down with his right hand pressing the lobby button with his right index finger. The door closed and the elevator slowly made its way to the lobby beeping at each floor.
After he reached the lobby he walked outside. He looked around the area and noticed a park that was just down the block. He decided he would go check it out. The night sky was clear. The moon was bright in the sky and you could see the barley see the stars over the cities street lights. After about five minutes of walking he reached the park area. Harley was surprised how big the park was. He found a bathroom that didn’t have doors on it and walked inside. After ten minutes in the bathroom Vengeance walked out wearing black pants, a black trench coat and white face paint and had red, white, and blue stripes.
Vengeance: Mikey Extreme, Mikey Extreme what are you thinking right now? Tell me your thoughts, Mikey. What’s that you say? You hear a noise? That noise sounds like something is cracking? Well, Mikey that noise isn’t a fantasy inside your head. That noise is reality telling you Mikey’s America is slowly crumbling. Piece by piece it is slowly collapsing around you and there is nothing you can do about. Surly you can’t be surprised can you? You should have seen this coming weeks ago when I beat you. You should have seen the man who is bigger than Mikey’s America, The man who is stronger than Mikey’s America, the one man who is finally going to end Mikey’s America. That’s a painful thing to hear isn’t. I don’t expect you to accept it right way. Everyone has denial when they find out bad news. You are about to go through several stages of grief Mikey. Matter of fact there are five stages you will have to go through.
Do you know what those stages are Mikey? Let me do you a favor and tell you. Stage number one is called denial. This will happen to you shortly after you get pinned by me at Timebomb. This may last for hours or days that will be up to you. The second stage is called anger. This stage will be the stage when you realize that I the man called Vengeance took everything away from you. I took Mikey’s America, I wrote the final chapter in the book of extreme, and I took the United States title away from you. The third stage is called bargaining. This one will be interesting for you. You will try to cut a deal, you will try and cut a deal to gain everything back that you once held dear, but I will be the first person to inform you it won’t work, sorry Mikey.
The fourth stage is called depression. This might be the hardest stage of them all. I have been there myself. But when you finally realize that you can’t get everything back that you once held dear to your heart, you will finally feel what it is like to be dark. This darkness will be reality not the pretend darkness you play in your head. The fantasy of the dark lords cannot save you, this is reality. Fantasy time will be over for you Mikey. Fantasy time will be over thanks to me, the man called Vengeance. The last and fifth stage is called acceptance. What will you accept Mikey? Will you finally accept that Vengeance was always the better man and he was placed here to take everything away from you just like I’m going to do? Will you accept that I took away everything that you claim to love? Will you accept all of this to save what is left, if there is anything left of your career?
Vengeance stops talking as he notices a flickering light out of the corner of his eye. He quickly turns his head to the right to see what it was. As his eyes focused he saw a metal barrel burning. This was done by the homeless people for warmth. Vengeance decided to walk over and check it out. As he approached the burning barrel he looked and saw no one. There was nothing left but a clothing items left behind by the homeless people who called this park home at night. There was no doubt they would be back at some point during the night.
Vengeance: Look at this Mikey. Is this the Mikey’s America you seem to brag about every time you give an interview with Hank Brown? These people who have nothing, these people are left out in the cold. All of this is your fault Mikey. Mikey’s America fails the people. I cannot let this go on any longer. I cannot let this go on any longer. You do nothing for these people except talk about how great you think you are. These people don’t want to see you sit there and talk to Hank Brown every week. These people don’t want to call you an American hero. These people don’t believe the bullshit that comes out of the mouth of Mikey Extreme. These people deserve someone better. These people deserve someone who can adapt each and every week. This people don’t want to live your fantasy Mikey.
I am going to do everything that I have said I would. I’m taking everything away from you. Don’t blame me for the demise of Mikey Extreme. I have warned you time and time again. This is a war that you cannot win. Who are you without that United States title Mikey? Who do you become? You become nothing. You become just another member on the roster who hopes once again to become something. You become someone on the roster who hopes they get booked each other, someone on the roster who hopes they still have a job after Timebomb. What else happens to Mikey Extreme after you lose the United States title? That United States makes your identity. You are nothing without it. After all how can you claim to be an American hero when you can’t even be the champion of it? How can you tell everyone to all hail Mikey’s America when Mikey’s America no longer exist? How can you simply go with a wrestling career? The fantasy that you live called Mikey’s America is falling to the reign of Vengeance at Timebomb.
Vengeance reaches down in his left pocket with his left hand and pulls out a book. The fire inside the barrel lights up words on the cover and it reads the book of Extreme. Vengeance smiles and feels happy that he is about to write the final chapter in the book of extreme.
Vengeance: This book I have in my hands is something that you take great pride in isn’t? This book is the thoughts and beliefs of everything that your mind thinks. I have read this book Mikey, and it sucks. This is some of the worst bullshit I have ever heard in my life. Everything you say is a lie. Everything you say is a fantasy. Everything you say is complete bullshit. It is time for someone to take this book over and finally make it interesting. Every book needs a great ending. Lucky for you Mikey I have volunteered to take this book over and write the final chapter. The final chapter may not be exactly what you want. The final chapter is actually the most exciting chapter in your whole book. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
Do you want to know how the final chapter is written? Hopefully you don’t mind that I tell the world the spoiler. The final chapter goes like this. Sunday night February 28th 2016 WCF held a pay per view called Timebomb live from Dallas Texas. The United States title was up for grabs in a great match between Vengeance and Mikey Extreme. It will probably go down as one of the best matches on the card. However this night didn’t work out for the defending champion as he finally lost his United States title to the man he will never beat named Vengeance. Thank you for reading this shitty book called the book of extreme.
Vengeance looks at the book one last time before dropping inside the burning barrel. The book falls half way down before landing on some wood and it slowly catches fire. Vengeance smiles and felt happy watching the book burn.
Vengeance: The book of extreme is officially over Mikey. You know you can’t beat me. You know I own your mind, body, and soul. You know I have taken over Mikey’s America and crushed the fantasy that survived in. Your time as United States champion is over. You finally have met the one person who you will never beat. This Sunday at Timebomb Mikey’s America falls, No one will ever have to hear all hail from your mouth, and your whole identity is going to be taken away from you. This Sunday at Timebomb Mikey Extreme you will be read your last rights, welcome to reality, enjoy the ride.
Vengeance takes one last look into the fire and sees the book of extreme is over half way burnt. He felt overwhelming joy to see this happening, He slowly turns around and walks away from the fire and disappears into the night.
