(OOC NOTE: SETH DON'T COUNT THIS TOWARD JUDGING, WE ARE EACH ONLY DOING ONE RP, THANKYA MY DEAR!)
The lens shutters erupt and the flashes illuminate the room as we open live to a staging area. Stood in the centre behind a podium is the WCF owner Seth Lerch, behind Seth is a large canvas stating ‘WCF Presents ‘One’ Dune vs Flash, with this graphic:
Flanking him either side are two tables, to the right of Lerch sits the indomitable figure of the hulking Dune, across from him to the left of Lerch sits the hooded figure of Joseph Malignaggi. Dune is staring across at his quarry while Malignaggi is simply staring at the table in front of him. You get the feeling if we could see Dune’s maw, it would be all smiles right now. Helping watch over any potential drama, Lerch has several security guards stationed in between the two combatants. Although we get the feeling if things were to kick off here, it wouldn’t matter if there were a thousand guards.
Seth: Welcome ladies and gentlemen of the associated press to the final presser before One, we have a strict time limit so try to make your questions short and concise. Thank you very much.
Seth regards the two.
Seth: Guys, the floor is yours.
He turns and walks away from the podium, resting his hand on Joey’s shoulder and whispering some words to the unmoving Malignaggi. Dune sneers at the sight before the silence is broken by the first journalist.
Journalist: I have a few questions posed by WCF stars and alumni, if I may? Here is a question posed by the WCF’s own Spencer Adams, this is for both fighters.
“How are you guys feeling going into such a big matchup?”
Joseph is the first to his feet, he approaches the podium and adjusts the microphone.
Malignaggi: The gravity of this match probably hasn’t sunk in to you people yet. The isn’t a match, this is an execution; I’m going to end this man’s life next Sunday. Watch, or don't. The outcome will be the same.
Short and sweet, Malignaggi sits back down without so much as looking at Dune. Meanwhile, Dune doesn’t take his eyes off Joseph as he rises and steps up to the mic.
Dune: An execution - aren’t you tired of those by now, Joey? I know I am. And as bold and courageous as you try to sound in saying you’re going to end my life at One, we both know you’re full of shit. How am I feeling? Like the bereaved Joey Flash is finally going to go the way of all the others I’ve torn through this year - and no one is more deserving.
Dune turns and sits back down. He glares over at Malignaggi, who continues to stare down at the table before him. He turns back toward the press as another journalist speaks up.
Journalist: The next is from Bryan “Buzz” Worthy. How do you respond to critics who feel it is irresponsible and distasteful for the WCF to use the death of a child as part of the build for a wrestling match?
Malignaggi: Who asked that question?
Journalist: Uhh-
Malignaggi: Who?!
Journalist: Buzz Worthy, he-
Malignaggi: Worthy, don’t talk about things you know nothing about. My life isn’t a ‘build’, my son is not a promotional fucking tool.
Dune: Was not.
Malignaggi bites his lip and continues.
Malignaggi: I owe nothing to this place, to you people, to Lerch. I am here at One for Christian…and he will get his vengeance.
Dune’s head shoots toward Malignaggi, and he chimes in right away.
Dune: And what are your plans, Joey - how does killing me gain your son the vengeance he’s due? Some father you are, knowingly keeping up this charade; this lie. Irresponsible and distasteful may not be the words I’d choose to describe all this - fear-driven and cowardly are more precise - but what do any of you know about it anyway? This is between me and Joey Flash, and I don’t give a goddamn about anyone else’s sensitivities.
Journalist: This one is from KL Henson, Joey, please try to remember, this isn’t me. “Do people overrate the death of the son? I like to think that it has made Joseph into a fiercer competitor, wouldn't you say so, Dune? Don't you think he should be thanking you if anything?
Dune: Sometimes losing everything is just what we need, like a brushfire that makes way for a new crop of trees. I should know. I lost everything years ago, and it molded me into the man I am today. Unfortunately for Joey, he didn’t lose everything, and thus far he’s lost nothing by my hand - nothing and no one. But that all ends this Sunday at One.
Journalist: From Howard Black to you Joseph. “You've hurt a lot of people, Joseph. No one would ever suggest that anything you've done would be deserving of the death of your son, but the sympathy of your loss and tragedy can only go so far. Some may think that no matter who you've become in the present, the sins of your past are too great to ever be forgiven. What do you have to say to these people?”
Malignaggi: Is that what you think Howard? I’m not asking for forgiveness, and I couldn’t care less what people think of me. I bear my cross and I ask for no sympathy, when I’m stepping through those ropes at One I’m not thinking about support, whether I’m hated or loved, I’m thinking about the Christmas presents I’m not going to be able to put under the tree this year, the innocent smile as the wrapping paper is ripped open, and the fact I’m never going to see it again.
I need nothing from anyone. This is my war, and I’m going to end it at One.
Journalist: This is from #BeachKrew leader Johnny Rabid, for you to answer Dune. “I have a question for Dune...
And when I say Dune, I mean Dune. Not his "Press Officer".
Dune, you're a killer. You're "a man", whose taken away the future of a child forever. No more hopes and dreams. No more birthdays, or proms or family photographs. Tell us, what right do you now have to exist? I only ask, because I can't think of a single reason. Can you? “
Dune: No one has a right to exist. That’s not how this works. You’d know that if you paid attention to the world around you. And in my case, if you weren’t merely taking in rumors and processing them into fanciful notions that fit your deluded narrative, then maybe you wouldn’t ask such naive questions. But I’ve got a question of my own: why would I kill the child of my opponent? I only ask, because I can’t think of a single reason. Can you?
He turns to Malignaggi, whose face is painted in an unfathomable rage as he finally looks up to meet Dune’s eyes, before somehow darting through the security guards. He fires a right hand toward Dune, who catches it in mid air.
Dune: I told you, it won't work ever again.
Before Malignaggi can launch another offensive the security guards are dragging him away from Dune as we...
