“It is a great ability to be able to conceal one's ability.”
-Francois de La Rochefoucauld
The scene begins with us getting a glimpse of a giant pyramid made entirely of glass. For anyone who has been to France or seen The Da Vinci Code, they will recognise the sight easily – the Louvre Pyramid. the sun is high in the sky and it shines magnificently down on the pyramid, dispersing through the glass and the base of the inverse pyramid below it to hit the floor of the museum. If one had looked down through the pyramids at this time of day, they would have seen none other than Skyler Striker heading towards the Mona Lisa exhibit. Skyler is dressed in his usual ripped maroon pants (although it is confusing as to how he got past the security with the massive tears in them) and an unbuttoned black shirt over a plain white polo shirt. Skyler’s sunglasses rest safely in his pocket as he walks through the relatively calm museum, and as he reaches the Mona Lisa, he steps forward and breathes in and out rather heavily once before simply standing there and observing it for the next ten minutes. Skyler then walks back down a certain string of corridors until he reaches a Michelangelo painting and examines this one, too, for ten minutes.
SS: Once again, an enigma. Leonardo Da Vinci compared to Michelangelo. Two great artists of the Italian country and the renaissance era. Yet their subtle differences give each a distinct level of skill. While Michelangelo was good, Da Vinci was great. Better than the best of the era because of the detail he put into painting a masterpiece or designing armoured tanks. Da Vinci knew how to do everything – paint, think, draw, design. He had talents that no-one else knew he had and he just kept getting better. And once again the comparison calls to me – whereas I may be Michelangelo – having talent – Daniel Vice appears as the form of Da Vinci and comes with more talent. I know it, he knows it, Daniel Vice has more talent than Skyler Striker. Whereas I may have the advantage in the air, we’re both equally skilled on the hardcore field and Danny just has more talent than me flat out in any other style, especially tag team. He only started revealing them a while ago – and I thought I had the advantage.
Skyler walks away from the Michelangelo painting, shaking his head at himself for not realising this before. Suddenly, Skyler has an idea. He begins asking patrons of the Louvre who was a better artist – Michelangelo or Da Vinci. Every single one of the twenty-three people he asks says Da Vinci was better, although Michelangelo had his moments. Skyler sits down after asking the twenty third person on a bench facing a wall of paintings. Skyler stares at his feet for the next minute or so.
SS: This doesn’t make sense. By all rights, I should be better than Danny Vice. But we’re equal. In skill, Danny beats me, and we’re one a piece. We need each other to be better than each other. How ironic.
Skyler looks up to see a painting by some obscure artist of a great city, ancient and ruined, with an arch in front of it that seems to have ancient inscriptions on it. Skyler stares at it for a second, as if recognising the painting from somewhere he has been before. Skyler rustles around in his pocket until he pulls out his wallet, and in the photo slot, Skyler removes the picture of Jade to reveal a second photo behind it – one of the very same ancient city, arch and all.
SS: No way…
Skyler stands and walks right up to the painting and stares at it with a grin so wild it could make even Jack of Blades look normal.
SS: I thought this might come up again.
Skyler leaves the hallway and exits the Louvre, calling a taxi.
SS: À l'aéroport.
